Late money: Todd Ricketts contributes to DeVore; Raja still pitching; Ozinga gives to self; Chicago FOP goes Downstate

Posted in:

* Hey, Cub fans

That was Ricketts’ only state campaign contribution this year.

* Raja Krishnamoorthi is still fundraising this morning…

Rich, I know you are exhausted and bombarded by fundraising requests. But please understand: The polls close in just 9 hours, and I still need to raise another $2,175 to win re-election and secure this seat for Democrats. So can I count on your $14 right now?

Too much? Yes!

* Subscribers know more, but here’s Politico

Republican state Rep. Tim Ozinga gave himself $1 million Monday, a sign he’s going to try to challenge Illinois House Republican leader Jim Durkin. Ozinga has been quietly talking to colleagues about the idea, according to members. Putting money in his account shows he has cash to help GOP colleagues.

A bit late.

* Rep. Wilhour lives 235 miles from the Chicago FOP’s headquarters

    Yep, that will make all the difference. Is that to cover the bar tab tonight?

  2. Other Ricketts contributions in Illinois? they have given/raised plenty for Trump land. Laura Ricketts’ contributions to Dems are not enough to justify remaining a Cubs fan. If you spend money at Wrigley…Cubs games or not…you are filling the Ricketts coffers.

  3. I stopped going to Cubs games after 2018 and decided never to watch the Marquee Network. Go Sox.

  4. It’s not the amount that’s all that huge (Ricketts and FOP), it’s the marker it represents, win or lose.

    “This is who I (we are) am, this money is a marker”

    “I always thought it would’ve been McCombie that would take down Durkin”

    “It was the smart move to wait. Ozinga was always smarter”

  5. Raja needs a strong primary challenger from the left in 2024. He is compromised by his fundraising obsession. Perhaps this seat would be a good fit for Marie Newman to make a return in 2024.

  6. Interesting move for someone who might need an ally when facing tax fraud charges and the incumbent is a non-starter. Let’s see if that works out better for him than broadcasting games on premium cable.

    Also, $1k from a billionaire and former Trump finance chairman? #OhTodd

  7. ===Marie Newman===

    Newman should be proud of her time in Congress and should move on.

    Newman’s lack of allies, her idea as the least senior Dem during the remap shouldn’t be something to consider when drawing districts… and frankly her lacking… Illinois is better served knowing she’s not going back.

    Raja… I like Raja, insofar as he’s a guy where Phil Crane once walked… Raja is there and thriving. Comfortable being himself, self promoting while self deprecating. As a campaigner and the politics to that, I like how Raja goes about his business.

    Raja milking cash… today… c’mon, man. Is it worth the headache to folks for a few bucks?

  8. @OW: have you heard his Roger Christian Murphy joke? Hilarious! Every time!

  9. It’s tough enough to remain a Cub fan. The owner’s desire to support the MAGA worst is infuriating.

    Comment by Norseman Tuesday, Nov 8, 22 @ 2:25 pm

  10. Raja’s banking his money for when he eventually runs for the Senate when Durbin retires.

  11. “Is that to cover the bar tab tonight?”

    That’ll probably cover the tip on the bar tab.

  12. I need to raise $2,100 to offset the increase in my property taxes that IPI (they hate this acronym) says I am going to have to pay if any Democrat or Democratic initiative passes.

    Please. Only $2,100. Please.
