  1. If Charlie Daniels hadn’t already passed that would have finished him off.

Comment by Big Dipper Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 9:21 am

  2. I wish I could unsee that.

Comment by FIREDup! Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 9:28 am

  4. What is the line from the song? “… if you lose, the devil gets your soul …?

Has beetle come to terms with his impending loss to JB?

Comment by Huh? Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 9:30 am

  5. Did he even pay for the rights to use that song? Embarrassing.

Comment by Stones Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 9:35 am

  6. @ Big Dipper - You may be surprised to know Charlie Daniels are a pretty devout Republican. He probably would had sold the rights to that song (I wonder if Bailey paid for the rights?).

    Comment by H-W Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 9:39 am

  7. Might as well have some fun before going down.

Comment by walker Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 9:41 am

  8. It is always kind of funny to see something like this from a candidate after a long campaign and lack of sleep. Someone on the campaign thought this would be funny…and Sen. Bailey evidently agreed.

Comment by Nagidam Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 9:46 am

  9. Well, that was bizarre.

Comment by JoanP Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 9:46 am

  10. Was that an ad for the devil?

Comment by Ramona Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 9:48 am

  11. H.W., I didn’t mean the politics, I meant the buffoonery.

Comment by Big Dipper Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 9:53 am

  12. Every village has their…

    Xenia knows who theirs is.

Comment by JS Mill Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 9:53 am

Comment by Ron Burgundy Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:00 am

  14. He was “playing” the fiddle before the fiddle part even started.

Comment by Downstate Teacher Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:00 am

  15. Never go full Goober.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:05 am

  16. oh, NOW I get Bailey’s strategy: he’s running for governor of GEORGIA.

Comment by Suburban Mom Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:10 am

  17. How much Mountain Dep was imbibed to produce that grandpa tikking tok on the twitverse???

    Comment by Anon221 Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:12 am

  18. His left hand moves as fast as his brain.

Comment by Lurker Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:14 am

  19. The comments section below that tweet is an interesting read- about half are full Baileyheads, the other half are just there to laugh at his tone deafness. That video will cause tens of thousands of Chicago (AKA Heckhole) residents to switch their votes now, swinging the election to Bailey /s

Comment by Roadiepig Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:18 am

  20. It’s amazing how he played all those different notes without moving his left hand once.

Comment by ChrisB Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:20 am

  21. As a moderate Republican this is what makes me cringe about eastern bloc. He’ll be lucky to get 42% of the vote tomorrow. Whichever campaign advisory thought this was a great idea should be fired immediately. I think he’s got the Southern Illinois vote locked. What a clown.

Comment by ISU Pundit Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:24 am

  22. Phony newspapers
    Phony Fiddling
    Phony campaign

Comment by low level Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:29 am

  23. Yep, this is the ad that finally made up my mind on who I am supporting.{Sarcasm}

Comment by oifredleg Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:31 am

  24. Maybe Bailey should check which state he’s running in.

Comment by Norseman Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:33 am

  25. If you can’t be honest to who you are, what you believe, when fun/funny thoughts to this come off tin eared and ridiculous to the caricature.

If anything, this video reinforces… even Bailey is confused who Bailey is… and what is and isn’t real.

Maybe it’s deeper than just a campaign?

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:35 am

  26. This is an Illinois not a Georgia, sir.

Comment by hisgirlfriday Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:49 am

  27. “Would you believe this man has gone as far As tearing Wallace stickers off the bumpers of cars. And he voted for George McGovern for President.”

Comment by Kayak Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:55 am

  28. Working hard to dispel the hayseed image.

Comment by Cindy Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 10:56 am

  29. Chicago Federation of Musicians—Local 10-208 would like a word. Johnny Frigo is spinning in his grave.

    Comment by Rudy’s teeth Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 11:10 am

  30. I think this secures the slack-jawed yokel vote…

Comment by Friendly Bob Adams Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 11:10 am

  31. To quote the late, great Grandpa Jones: “Pitiful. Plum pitiful.”

Comment by Streator Curmudgeon Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 11:24 am

  32. His pretend fiddlin’ is better than what his pretend governin’ would look like.

Comment by Henry Francis Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 11:28 am

  33. I just kept looking at the left hand. The left hand knows the music. The left hand is the music.

    Bailey is a one-chord guy.

@ Big Dipper - yes, the silliness is there. And Daniels would have shown him how to play the tune Trump’s way.

    Comment by H-W Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 11:32 am

  34. When you find out that there isn’t quite so much outrage as you thought about the other guy’s performance as governor…

As cringey as those commercials about running government for the “elites.”

Comment by Jibba Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 11:36 am

  35. “There is more where this came from, friends”

    – Friends don’t subject friends to bad fake fiddle playing.
    – Is that a threat?
    – Was this paid for by ‘People who don’t play the fiddle by the rules”?
    – Would it be a violation for Uline to pay for some fiddle lessons?

Comment by OneMan Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 11:40 am

  36. Just what we need, another governor who drops his “gs”
and play acts at being something he isn’t.

Comment by West Side the Best Side Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 12:00 pm

  37. So a fiddle playing farmer and a ambulance chasing attorney with tattoos down both his arms. Is the best the Republican Party can put up against Governor Pritzker. I guess you get what you pay for.

    Comment by Club J Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 12:00 pm

  38. If the goal is to appeal to white males over age 70 in Hardin County, then I’d consider it a success. He must have Cook County locked down pretty tight if he’s going after that demographic.

Comment by Unreliable Sources Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 12:02 pm

  39. Darren Bailey is a buffoon. That he agreed to participate in this spot proves he’s not qualified to hold public office. Dimwit.

    Comment by Rudy’s teeth Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 12:24 pm

  40. Bailey might as well have some fun today because I doubt he’ll have very much tomorrow . . . .

Comment by Flapdoodle Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 12:31 pm

  41. Ok, umm, that was just weird. And pretty clear in about a second that he has no clue how to play that fiddle. Ouch.

And I bet most people took the closing line like I did, “There is more where this came from, friends”

    Is that a threat?

Yikes. Maybe Pritzker can pay to put that on TV.

Comment by New Day Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 12:31 pm

  42. The fiddle equivalent of lip synching. Milli Vanilli quality. Par for the course from a phony.

Comment by The Way I See It Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 12:38 pm

  43. He’s definitely not ready for Bob’s Country Bunker.

JB is telling his people to vote. Bailey is fiddlin’ while his campaign burns.

Comment by Henry Francis Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 12:42 pm

  44. false fiddler. false prophet.

Comment by Amalia Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 12:46 pm

  45. == Milli Vanilli quality. ==

At least Milli Vanilli lip-synched well enough to fool people. Darren Baily is fooling no one with this performance.

Comment by Anonymous Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 1:24 pm

  46. Charlie Daniels cringing over that horrible bow technique…

Comment by Eastern Bloc Gulag Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 4:30 pm

  47. Also noticed he’s only playing one, dissonant chord.

Bigger surprise for me was he hadn’t selected a banjo.

Comment by Give Us Barabbas Monday, Nov 7, 22 @ 5:06 pm

  48. I was going for Pritzker, but now that I see that Bailey is channeling Charlie Daniels, maybe I should make him the top official of the state… after all, who cares about executive skills if you can pretend to play the fiddle?
