  1. Received our first Proft fake newspaper yesterday… and it was worse than everything I’d heard about it. Win at any cost should never have replaced truth and integrity.

  2. At my part of Illinois (my apartment), I am looking forward to Nov. 9th. Sick and tired of the election season and all the campaign ads, junk mail, fundraising beggars, etc. Maybe if we’re lucky we’ll have a few days of calm before the silly season starts again for the spring Local elections. Including the Springfield mayor’s race.

  3. I also got some fake news in the mail yesterday. Mclean County Times….straight to the recycle bin.

  4. Out here in the Hamlet it feels like a peaking happened like 3-4 days ago, then Halloween, and now there’s a real let down, a fatigue.

And note, I’ve not received even a 10th of the mail others have, I get that mail “late” where it’s been out for a while, and there’s no real ground game going on, either side.

    It’s the Thursday before… it’s flat “outside”

  5. Looking likely that we go the whole general election without anyone knocking on doors in my neighborhood, despite living in several competitive districts. Eerily quiet year all around.

  6. Early voted Tuesday, after reading some disturbing news about a local candidate. It didn’t change my vote, but it changed my opinion of the local candidate I voted against. I know him well, and know that somewhere inside there is a good heart. But currently, just showing the mean version. Sad.

  7. As to the questions, the election seems to be bringing out the worst of a lot of people in the small community. Fortunately, most people are staying above the fray publicly.

It is somewhat ironic given that in 17 years here, I do not remember any election surprise results. Just a lot of venom and bile going into the elections.

  8. My birthday happens to coincide with Election Day again this year… seems to happen every 7 years or so lol
So my birthday gift this year is that election season will be over. For a while…

  9. No mailers… absolutely zip so far. The mute button gets a good workout when watching TV, though.

  10. Seeing illegally placed republican signs on public land all over my commute to work. Anyone know who to call to get them removed?

  11. Lynn Sweet’s article on Proft’s fake news is excellent.

  12. ===Seeing illegally placed republican signs on public land===

The Alexi crew was up early blanketing the public parkways along Western Avenue with his signs. It’s litter and hopefully these will all get tossed in the trash.

  13. Got our first fake newspaper yesterday- horrible- but had items in it to make it look legit- postmarked out of Palatine- and the so called name of the “paper” was Sangamom Sun..we live in Menard County.. into the burn pit it went

Comment by Countrygirl Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 9:51 am

  14. A guy a work said he hopes to see Pritzker voted out because “everybody hates him”

I broke the news to him that southern Illinois is the outlier.

Also, I signed up to be an election judge for the first time. Any advice?

  15. Getting 4-5 election mailers every day. They go straight to the trash can. I’m also glad my television remote has a mute button. Will be happy to see the latest election with all of it’s lies and hate come to a close.

  16. I to my mailbox everyday and get fliers from those running. They send them out daily it seems. I just go from the mailbox to the recycling bin. Most I have ever received by far this year.

  17. We’re probably averaging 1 mailer a day, but where I live maybe only a couple of the races are competitive. Haven’t gotten any of the fake newspapers yet, which is kinda disappointing since I was hoping to use it to get a nice fire going in our firepit this weekend.

Comment by Scott Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 10:41 am

  18. Almost zero mailers here. More surprising is the lack of robo calls.

Comment by Highland IL Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 11:04 am

  19. Still seeing a few mailers that get file 13. I don’t watch much TV, but the ads seem to be heavy. And enough ads are making it to my cell phone.

Otherwise,it means this old retired guy has to get up at 4 am on Tuesday to open up the church and then work as an election judge all day, then close the place up afterwards. And be on call the day before / day after to deliver and remove the machinery.

Comment by RNUG Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 11:18 am

  20. Thank you RNUG, and all the others who make our election process possible.
