  1. ==The cougar arrived in Springfield yesterday and was scheduled to leave that night==

Do cougars move on train schedule-like time. Scheduled to leave? That made me laugh.

  2. That’s what happens when someone finds your Franklin Day Planner.

It’s scheduled to head up to that hill off of 55 by the coal mine. Since that is the closest thing to a mountain nearby.

  3. Predicting what a wild animal will do is folly.

  4. I am glad they included the picture, because I was confused.

Comment by Henry Francis Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 9:14 am

  5. If you’re going to take a stroll along any of the area rivers or streams, I’d advise paying attention.

  6. “Yea, I’d love to do lunch, but I gotta be in Terre Haute by 6.”

    Comment by Scott217 Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 9:20 am

  7. Dems preach that more women and POC need to be involved in politics, but seemingly only when it aligns with their values and needs. I am a dem too, but it makes me happy to see POC women running regardless of their party.

Comment by Romeo Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 9:21 am

  8. @Romeo

Yes, we want political representatives to actually represent the different backgrounds their constituents come from. This would naturally include more women, blacks, hispanics, Asians, etc.

But when it comes to any particular race, why would Dems support the other party’s candidate just because of representation, when their ideas are atrocious?

Comment by Techie Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 9:26 am

  9. ==Lauf is a second-generation Latin American and was one of the youngest presidential appointees at the United States Department of Commerce.==

Was that by a famously competent President?

    Comment by A Well-Regulated Commenter Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 9:27 am

  10. After a breakfast at Charlies, Dinner at D’Arcy’s and night cap at Floyd’s, a boy needs his rest.

Comment by oifredleg Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 9:30 am

  11. ==Dems preach that more women and POC need to be involved in politics, but seemingly only when it aligns with their values and needs.==

Well duh. Why would you support someone of the opposite party? I’m not really a big fan of supporting diversity just for the sake of diversity. If I’m a member of a party and I can make my party more diverse I’m all for it. But I”m certainly not supporting someone who doesn’t share my political beliefs just because they are a diverse candidate.

Comment by Demoralized Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 9:32 am

  12. Henry Francis, I am also glad the picture was provided. Because the schedule info would make more sense if it was referring to a lusty older woman than a wild animal who might decide the hunting is good where s/he is.

    Comment by cermak_rd Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 9:37 am

  13. Tribbies signaling this will be final endorsement run as VolleyBallSandy gets credit for strong high school and college play and her hard right whacko views are ignored. Very funny

Comment by Annonin' Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 9:51 am

  14. A cougar is a cat. Ergo, its schedule is as follows:
    Eat
    Sleep
    Eat some more
    Sleep some more
    Repeat

Comment by JoanP Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 9:54 am

  15. Does anyone know if ILGA is going to update the cougar’s schedule?

Comment by Michelle Flaherty Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 9:54 am

  16. ===appreciated that Demmer has been able to work across the aisle==

… as we wholly ignore Demmer for a whole General Assembly voted with Bruce Rauner to purposely hurt Illinois’ most vulnerable, and voted to purposely ruin Illinois because destroying organized labor was more important than the budget stalemate.

If Brady and Demmer lose, they, along with Bourne, will not be missed as Illinois needs people who put Illinois first, and all three refused that charge.

Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 9:56 am

  17. == Predicting what a wild animal will do is folly.==

    Especially a cat

Comment by fs Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 9:57 am

  18. Perhaps the problem with the SAFE-T Act is one of semantics. Perhaps we need to stop saying, “eliminate cash bail.”

Perhaps we need to say, require state attorneys to petition judges to set bail / require bond, for potentially dangerous suspects.

    Comment by H-W Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 10:00 am

  19. Is the SJR not on on the media list?

    Office of the Mountain Lion

  20. People, let’s try to keep it clean. Thanks.

Comment by Rich Miller Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 10:00 am

  21. Might be worth noting that hunting season (deer, goose, duck), kicks into high gear this weekend and into November. Not sure what the cougar has on its calendar starting this weekend, but I wouldn’t be shocked if we hear of a sighting or two (or worse)

Comment by fs Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 10:03 am

  22. Bost, a former Marine, shouldn’t be carrying water for the trumpies on his Federal lawsuit.

Comment by Highland IL Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 10:24 am

  23. Sorry, Rich (Mr. Miller? Editor Miller?), I probably shouldn’t have used the l word. It probably bent the convo the wrong way.

    Comment by cermak_rd Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 10:29 am

  24. After reading Joan’s post, I am strongly inclined to adopt the same routine.

Comment by Midwesterner Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 10:30 am

  25. The mountain line is hunkered down in the woods near my house. Lots of DNR cops and US DA with tracking devices.

Comment by Central Ill Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 10:52 am

  26. ==The mountain line is hunkered down in the woods near my house. ==

Apparently you failed to give him his schedule.

Comment by Demoralized Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 10:59 am

  27. [Clutching pearls] how are we going to keep out neighborhoods safe with a mountain lion in the loose? A stray cat isn’t safe to roam around at night.

Comment by Huh? Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 11:04 am

  28. How long before Proft cuts an ad with clips from the Tsavo Lions movie “The Ghost and the Darkness,” blaming JB for the “carnage?” Or Bailey films one shooting a stuffed cat filled with Tannerite?

Comment by Ron Burgundy Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 11:14 am

  29. Could someone check to see whether the clock in the General Assembly was stopped? That might explain the cougar scheduling issue.

And by the way — that’s far from the first cougar to prowl Springfield. Amirite, ladies?

Comment by Soccermom Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 11:23 am

  30. As a note, if you come across the cougar, leave it be. He doesn’t need an entourage. Its not safe for either species.

Comment by FormerParatrooper Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 11:37 am

  31. I told the DNR cops that I wouldn’t disclose its location because people would likely invade the area out of curiosity

Comment by Central Ill Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 11:39 am

  32. Adding- if I were it I would be hanging out where it is as well. Tons of food sources, thick with deer, turkey etc.

Comment by Central Ill Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 11:41 am

  33. I didn’t think the cougars were going to be let loose until the SafeT Act kicked in on Jan. 1.

    Comment by Leigh John-Ella Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 11:46 am

  34. Glad to see some interest and appreciation for these rare animals that were hunted to extinction in Illinois. Meanwhile in Whiteside County, a cougar was shot by the DNR cop a few years ago on private property outside Morrison.

What was not reported was the name of the farm owner, Glenn Frank. Frank is one of the oldsters on the Whiteside County board, and a retired Sheriff’s deputy. Great work!

Comment by Buford Pusser Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 11:59 am

  35. Burford Pusser - If I remember correctly, the backlash against IDNR was pretty swift on that one. Within a year, the GA passed SB3049 which amended the Wildlife Code to protect cougars, black bears and grey wolves. So at least something good came out of that incident. In other wildlife news…If you can believe trail cam photos on Facebook, there’s also a bull elk roaming around Sangamon, Schuyler and Macoupin Counties. No ear tag, so doesn’t look like an escapee from a farm. One was shot a few years back in Macoupin County. I wonder how long before we start seeing more of them wander over from Missouri and the other states trying to reintrounce them.

  36. Rumor has it, the mountain lion is staying till after the election.
I think it misunderstood the stories about the upcoming purge, and it’s afraid to travel alone.

Comment by Bruce( no not him) Friday, Oct 28, 22 @ 2:21 pm

  37. According to WCIA the cougar has been tranq’d. Its new home will be the Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Center Point, Indiana.

  38. Mr/Ms if BossToss doesn’t carry Trumper water his pail would be empty
