  1. Beautiful fall day downstate.

  2. Well, the mountain lion is in my neighborhood. It looks like an entire DNR SWAT team is there observing it, so I’m probably going to walk the dog elsewhere over lunch. Good thing it’s a beautiful day!

  3. World Series starts today & there was a story in the Sun-Times yesterday about this being the first WS in 46 (?) years that an American born black player won’t be on either roster. Unfathomable.

  4. Troubled to hear about the hammer attack on Paul Pelosi in his home. Hard to believe this wasn’t an intentional act of political intimidation and violence.

  5. Bally’s is supposed to have bought the Trib printing plant by now for the Chicago casino but per this most recent article it’s unclear if it happened yet. The article implies Bally’s has bought the plant but then says “potential sale.”

  6. I note on twitter, the IL DNR says to leave the mountain lion alone. I guess that’s probably why the observers, warn away anyone who wants to give it a belly scratch or shoot it (two sides to a very strange coin).

  7. Early voted yesterday and there was such a long line (banned punctuation) Did I pick a busy day or are just an unusually large number of people early voting?

  8. hoping the big cat stays safe. when the Chicago folks killed that one that got close to the lakefront it was such a terrible example of how to handle wildlife. clearly officials need to be armed with tranquilizer guns in case of a difficult situation. these creatures were here first and are vital to our ecosystem.

  9. Suburban Mom. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I read over my county’s sample ballot and know who I’m voting for. I want to vote early to 1. Get it over with and 2. Avoid the stress of trying to get to my polling location on election day.

  10. Amalia,

Agreed. It caused a stir when Norway killed the walrus that had been kind of stuck in the North sea. Germans, Finns, Swedes etc. had named it and were tracking it. Like, the cougar, it apparently couldn’t keep to a schedule.

  11. The big cat was on Checkerberry St. on west side of Spfld this morning. DNR is coming to the house to tranquilize it and relocate it.

  12. I just discovered (going through mail after a vacation) that my polling place of 15 years has changed from a park district location to an elementary school. We consolidated to a location that should never have been be a polling place (in my opinion)?

  13. Voted early today. seems city hall was doing a brisk business here. Feels good to be done with it.
