IDPH: 83 percent of recent COVID-19 hospital patients were either not vaxxed or hadn’t yet received all three shots

Posted in:

* COVID-19 hospitalizations have now fallen to under 900. Hospitalizations were above 7,300 in January, dropped precipitously to the 400s in March, then rose to about 1,500 in July, where they held fairly steady until falling below 1,000 in late September.

So, who are these folks in the hospital? The Illinois Department of Public Health looked at data from June 1 through September 26 and produced a quick report at my request. “UTD” means up to date on vaccinations, including boosters, except the most recent booster which wasn’t available until early September. The “Not UTD” category covers everyone from those who are not vaccinated at all to those who hadn’t yet received their third shot.

Hospitalized cases in Illinois by age group and vaccination status…

For perspective, about 26 percent of the state’s population 5 and above is not vaxxed for COVID. About 90 percent of Illinoisans aged 65+ are fully vaccinated, according to IDPH.

…Adding… More from IDPH…

Based on the table above 42% of all hospitalized cases for this period (2022/06/01-2022/09/26) were 70+ and Not_Up to date and 66 percent are Not Up-to-date and over 50.

* With that in mind, let’s circle back to Mary Ann Ahern’s coverage of last Friday’s joint candidate interviews

I did follow up with the Bailey campaign to ask ‘Has the candidate been vaccinated?’ They will not answer that question.

I am a little surprised he didn’t pull out his go to “I’m not educated enough or informed enough to give you an answer on that.”

  2. -I did follow up with the Bailey campaign to ask ‘Has the candidate been vaccinated?’ They will not answer that question.-

He can’t answer it. If he says “No,” a vast majority of the electorate considers him ignorant, or more ignorant than they already do.

If he says “Yes,” his ignorant base scorns him for getting “the jab” and abandons him.

  3. Actions (or lack thereof) have consequences.

  4. At this point there’s probably nothing you can say to someone to convince them to get vaccinated. I’m just grateful everyone I care about most is fully vaxxed and boosted.

  5. –They will not answer that question.–

This would be a great time for Bailey to take a tour of various veterans hospitals in the state.

  6. My guess is that he is vaccinated, but doesn’t want to admit that to his base.

  7. So you have somewhere between a 4x to 7x increased chance of ending up in a hospital from Covid if unvaccincated. Social Darwinism in action…

  8. Q. Is Darren Bailey vaccinated?
    A. Huh?

    Q. Is Darren Bailey vaccinated?
    A. Say again?

    Q.Is Darren Bailey vaccinated?
    A. Darren’s not here.

  9. Dotnonymous: “Darren’s not here, man.” — Cheech and Chong bit “Dave’s not here.”

But…but…the IDPH data is all fake. I saw it on Facebook and Truth. (Sarcasm).

  10. ==My guess is that he is vaccinated, but doesn’t want to admit that to his base.==

Again, I go back to my position of Darren Bailey as a True Believer. If his pastor at First Church of The Punisher is at the pulpit saying vaccines contain the mark of the beast or whatever, he’s on board without and he’s not getting a shot. So I don’t think he did.

This is not your standard-issue craven political hypocrisy to appease the base. Darren is the base.

  11. ===My guess is that he is vaccinated===

The dude was spreading anti-vax propaganda long before the pandemic.

  12. I’ll bet a cup of coffee Darren Bailey’s pigs are vaccinated.

Comment by Dotnonymous Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 11:40 am

  13. I think you may be mixing up your “perspective”. The 90% of seniors that are “fully vaccinated” are two-shot fully vaccinated while your hospital data is “UTD” or boosted.

Comment by Eastside Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 11:47 am

  14. Interesting timing on this post as I am just getting ready to leave for my 3rd booster shot.

  15. I think Eastside is correct on this. I would love to see IDPH go after the “low-hanging fruit” and get the people who have had one jab fully up to date.

  16. This lines up nicely with a recent study noting 600,000 additional Covid-19 deaths in Ohio and Florida along party lines.

  18. “All three shots”???

I’ve had 5 shots now. And got it, too, after the 3d shot, but it was a pretty mild case.

  19. The Non UTD’s will never be reached.

I’ll be watching a PBS documentary in 50 years (hopefully alive) on this time period and can’t wait to see the historical perspective on the anti-vaccine movement.

I was in the car the other day and NPR had a story on a about chicken pox - 12 year says “have I had them? No. Have you? Yes. Why haven’t I? Because vaccines” I remain at such a loss as to why people still believe what they believe about the COVID vaccine.
