* Here’s a screenshot of the Associated Press Media Editors’ joint interview of Gov. JB Pritzker and Sen. Darren Bailey. No journalists of color were on the panel. Two women were on the panel, but neither was called upon to ask questions, even though Marni Pyke is an experienced journalist who has been competently covering state politics for years…
PS: Very little new ground was covered beyond what we discussed on Friday. But click here for a pretty good roundup from Capitol News Illinois.

Diversity issues aside, how much new ground is there to cover? Anyone who has been paying attention to the devolvement of the ILGOP over the past few years will be very familiar with what they (and the national party) have become. Bailey doesn’t make any secret as to who he is and what he stands for.
I recognize media have to do their job (and those of us who want to avoid minority theocrat rule need the media to keep pumping out stories), but I just don’t know what sort of last minute new information is likely to come out.

Illinois is a big state with a big government, there’s always more to learn. I’m not a journalist but I still think I could come up with an hour’s worth of new questions for each of them. And of course “anyone who has been paying attention” doesn’t cover every voter. It sounds like you’ve made up your mind, and I have as well. But journalists don’t decide what to cover based on an audience of just you and me. I’d rather candidates spend as much time as possible on camera answering questions instead of giving speeches to friendly audiences.

It’s not always about what is new as it is who hasn’t seen it before. And there’s a lot of voters who haven’t been paying attention.

Agree with Rich’s concerns and after watching the forum - I’d add, maybe having some more diverse voices on this panel would have yielded some better questions.

10-12 or so years ago that would have looked pretty much like what I would expect a group of Pat Quinn’s senior staff to look like.

I’m referring to the average age of the employees–look like they’re barely out of college.
It also resembles a typical group of Sinclair and Channel 20 “journalists.”
