Out of 40 complaints this year, Legislative Inspector General says none showed wrongdoing

McCuskey said his office has received complaints against 40 state lawmakers and their staffers during his first six months on the job. He said many complaints are so vague there’s nothing to investigate, or they appear to stem from election-year politics. He said none showed wrongdoing.

People have got to stop abusing this process.

Agreed, but as long as allegations receive screaming headlines in the media, that is extremely unlikely.

Good cops face these kind of unfounded complaints every day. People do need to stop abusing the process.

As long as a large portion of the population equate disagreeing with something as automatically being wrong, the abuse will only worsen.

Either the investigations need to matter or the investigators need to, when things “magically leak”, wholly and unequivocally exonerate.

Sorry, I am not shocked or surprised by that number, with all the past/current corruption related to ILGA members the IG office should expect to field a ton of calls. Better to see too many calls than none.

So you think he’s lying? You have some inside information on to what exactly those 40 complaints said that we don’t? Because if you don’t then you have no idea what you are talking about. You’re just complaining that you didn’t get the outcome you wanted.

Mike McCuskey is probably one of the most straight shooters around. Former state and federal judge. If you have evidence that he’s sugar coating, then please share.

What you are describing are two different investigative paths. A criminal prob usually starts with the Feds getting some information. An ethics complaint is a different animal that typically would not involve a criminal behavior.

Worded that wrong. There certainly could and have been complaints of a criminal nature. But a person that sees corruption is most likely going to go to the legal authorities not a Legislative Inspector General.

I’ve talked to some FBI agents about public corruption ( they needed some background on muni bonds) and this is pretty common in terms of complaints. Many assume corruption when they disagree and in other cases people don’t provide information probably because they are not use to reporting such information.

Maybe folks who don’t get a bill passed or language added or removed shouldn’t think the next step is to file a complaint

If the complaints are being investigated at all it is an improvement.

Previously, complaints were stuffed into a file while the Committee of Legislators was told that none exist. Remember, when the LIG seat sat open for like two years?

This process is historically a farce.
