  3. Maybe I can bait him,

RNUG, I hear members of the Cook County Judiciary are contemplating a lawsuit for eligible jurists who had no interruption in service from Tier 1 employment only to find themselves Tier 2 judges. The argument as I understand it lies in the reciprocity clause in that the JRS is/was reciprocal with several retirement systems including Cook County’s system. (Loads of judges that were Tier 1 PDs and ASAs fall in this category.) I’m not quite sure how the judiciary was overlooked in the pension reform bill, but they clearly were. I know there is a bill out there to ‘correct’ this issue, but the legislators I spoke to are reluctant to carry it. Any thoughts?

  5. My Huskies lost a close and wild one last night.
Also seemed to be more people on the train today than I have seen post-pandemic. West loop still looks like a ghost town when I look out my window however.

  6. Sticks–yes. Though maybe ‘enjoy’ is not the right word. I don’t enjoy knowing many people may have been saved from the gas chambers if someone listened to Karski among other people. Still, it’s a good play and I’ve been a Strathairn fan for years and years.

  7. Regarding the governors’ trip to Scotland and yesterday’s call in this group for the governor to lobby for importation of haggis to the US. Illinoisans can avail themselves of Ackroyd’s Bakery in Michigan. They’ll ship you a presentation haggis, haggis pies, and haggis potato crisps. Burns Night is only a couple months away.

  8. yinn, good info. wondering if they have Deans shortbread as it is not in stores in US that I have found.

Comment by Amalia Thursday, Nov 4, 21 @ 10:18 am

  9. Amalia, they don’t have Deans, I suppose because Ackroyd’s makes its own, and I haven’t tried it because I make my own. But Ackroyd’s has a gingerbread version too, and that looks interesting.

  10. @yinn, oooh, you make your own shortbread. fantastic.

I’m fine. We just got our booster last week. Still around and read the posts here as time permits. Just don’t post as much.

Just busy with life. I edit / publish / write a 20 or so page quarterly newsletter for an international car club. This past summer, I hosted the clubs national convention here in Springfield.

I’ve been playing more with cars. Got the wife a new toy back in January and been catching up on some of the deferred maintenance it needed. Just towed home a parts car that was stored away 18 years ago and had to make room for it in my garage.

And we’ve done a couple of house projects. Screened / enclosed front porch; lumber prices were crazy but we still used cedar and oak so it would last. Put in a patio in the back yard. Still need to redo part of the kitchen cabinets.

If I ever do bail on the site, I’ll sign off with my real name … which some of you already know.

I hadn’t heard about that but my gut says they will win Tier 1 status. I know under SERS breaks in service, job title changes, etc. didn’t affect being Tier 1 classified. One friend under SERS worked in a Tier 1 job about 30 years ago, left State service and even withdrew contributions, then hired back after Tier 2 was established (did rebuy initial service), but still ruled as Tier 1 pension eligible.

  15. What ever happened to AZ Bob/Zonker? Or did he change his name to LP?

  17. Strathairn dated Tony Soprano’s wife, and lived. Doing a play is nothing.
