Please define “continued to grow”

Posted in:

* Daily Herald

The new numbers come as the number of people protesting or ignoring Pritzker’s stay-at-home guidelines continued to grow over the weekend.

About 100 protesters lined Randall Road in Algonquin on Sunday, a day after a demonstration in Fox Lake focused on restrictions limiting boat capacities to two people.

* Saturday’s Fox Lake “protest”…

Fox Lake dairy queen protest I think everybody is sick of it we want to make our own decisions about our future this is America

If “everybody” is a handful of people standing outside a Dairy Queen, I guess she’s right.

The governor was actually asked about that protest yesterday.

  1. Why don’t they like Dairy Queen?

  3. If god made immunity, then everyone who has died because of COVID-19 is…? I’d love to know her answer to that.

  4. I’m very torn;

    I’d like to know *why* Satan would be the one cheering and making vaccines.

    I have no desire to speak to someone so foolish to, not only make that sign, but make the sign and hold it up publicly.

    Like I said, I’m torn.

  5. That sign reminds me of the old story about the man on his roof asking God to rescue him from the flood. A rowboat comes by and he sends it away, saying God will save him. A motorboat comes by - same thing. Then a helicopter, and he sends that away.

    Of course, he drowns. In Heaven, he asks God why He didn’t save him. And God says, I sent you two boats and a helicopter. What else did you want?

  8. This reminds me of what was left on my windshield when I hit a goose during one of the few trips I made to Algonquin.

    My way of expressing an opinion what would not likely make it through Rich’s filters.

    Comment by Norseman Monday, May 4, 20 @ 1:05 pm

  9. Some social scientists need to expand white fragility to cover believing that not being allowed to eat-in at a Dairy Queen is the equivalent of slavery.

    ===I’d like to know *why* Satan would be the one cheering and making vaccines.===

    Mary Baker Eddy has an answer for you.

  10. JoanP, you beat me to the punch. That is exactly the right story. I’m sorry but these people are truly lacking in the brainpower God gave to mice. So these people who will refuse to be vaccinated when a vaccine finally comes out? Talk about Covidiots.

    Comment by Chicago Cynic Monday, May 4, 20 @ 1:16 pm

  11. I honestly don’t get these protesters, and sadly a few friends are amongst them. Even the ACLU is saying they don’t have a leg to stand on.

    Comment by Ken_in_Aurora Monday, May 4, 20 @ 1:19 pm

  12. I’m glad to live in a free country, where people can express their opinions, no matter how devoid of facts, logic or truth, and embarrass themselves publicly. These protesters did themselves proud. I hope there were some people with higher I.Q.s to make sure the protesters got home safely, otherwise they might get lost.

    Comment by revvedup Monday, May 4, 20 @ 1:20 pm

  13. Hail Satan. And all this time I was giving credit for vaccines to doctors and scientists. Silly me.

    Comment by Ducky LaMoore Monday, May 4, 20 @ 1:21 pm

  14. These are scared, un-educated people, being duped and exploited by cynical, evil people, being wound-up and sent marching like so many little toy soldiers, for an agenda they don’t even understand. An agenda that’s against their own interest. I pity them, more than hate them. You can amp these people’s fears up, stoke their prejudices, but calming them, convincing them of the truth is much, much harder, because it involves them facing up to and admitting their wrong-ness, and even reasonable people don’t like to do that. It’s work, and it’s humiliating.

    Some of these protests can be blamed on foreign trolls. Most of it, I think we have to blame on right-wing conservative interests and their agendas. They will use whomever they can to get what they want, fair or foul, and not care about the damage they do.

  16. Is that woman wearing scrubs? She appears to be and she thinks Satan made vaccines? Please don’t let her go to work anymore. Who knows what she thinks of medications and IVs.

  17. According to Genesis 1, on the sixth day God said: “Let the earth bring forth the living creature after its kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after its kind.’ And it was so.”

    To clarify for those who would use the religious context: God created viruses. Man/woman create vaccines. Satan’s role is conjecture.

  20. As this pandemic rolls on it is exposing some weaknesses in society — working conditions for employees in meat processing plants, lack of education among a segment of the population, willingness to use a crisis to polarize people against people, China and Russia’s continued work to sabotage Facebook, and so on.

  21. Very Old Soil, I think that was the former Tastee Freeze executives gathering outside the Dairy Queen

    Comment by Jose Abreu's Next Homer Monday, May 4, 20 @ 1:44 pm

  22. Well isn’t that special, instead of trying to understand it through the lens of science and facts, lets just trust our faith. I am not knocking religion, but its not helping at all to pit faith versus Science in times like these. Wake up folks this is life and death not a choose your own adventure book.

  23. ===Is that woman wearing scrubs===

    “Kelli Ward, the head of the Republican Party in Arizona, told those planning to protest stay-at-home orders aimed at limiting the spread of COVID-19 to dress in scrubs and masks on Twitter.”

    Comment by TheInvisibleMan Monday, May 4, 20 @ 1:47 pm

  24. - dress in scrubs and masks -

    A woman was interviewed at the JRTC protest last week that claimed to be a nurse. I was highly skeptical then and even more so now.

  26. That was a response to the comment: “Why don’t they like Dairy Queen?”

  27. I keep reminding myself of the poll numbers that show the vast majority of people support the measures put in place. The folks that are losing it because they can’t pontoon or spend hours at the Q are a distinct minority. Deep breaths.

    “Hail Satan.”

    Now I need to go listen to the Mountain Goats.

    Comment by Montrose Monday, May 4, 20 @ 1:57 pm

  28. There have been about 10 suburbs around me where protestors showed up. Each and everyone had the same people led by the same guy. Bradon Harris of Joliet.

    I know this because every paper has quoted Brandon. He’s the chair of the Young Republicans of Will County. Every one. Not once has anyone mention, hey, weren’t you the same guy from Algonquin yesterday?
    ‘ number of people protesting or ignoring Pritzker’s stay-at-home guidelines continued to grow over the weekend.’

    Finally someone noticed.

    He was also previously selling masks for fifteen bucks a pop at one of these events in Crest Hill.

  31. Well, this episode has certainly exposed the deep vein of “foolish beyond all help” that exists in our society.

  34. Polling tells us that no more than 20% feel this way. The sign tells us that they shouldn’t be taken seriously.

    Comment by Pundent Monday, May 4, 20 @ 2:45 pm

  35. Sigh . . .the same people who think pro-wrestling is real. When will it end?

    Comment by Now What? Monday, May 4, 20 @ 2:54 pm

  36. Wait. So satan made vaccines to prevent hundreds of thousands of people from dying from smallpox, tetanus, etc? Huh. Those were pretty efficient killers. So satan hates killers? I’m confused.

    Comment by Proud Sucker Monday, May 4, 20 @ 3:35 pm

  37. ===If you are a creationist, didn’t God also create viruses?===

    In an ironic twist, it may very well be natural selection that leads to their demise.

  38. “Our public education has failed.”
    Of all the people in my social circle who would be there, only those who have been homeschooled come to mind.
