  1. This is why we have the stay at home orders. An ill person intentional goes out into public places and infects other people.

  7. Anyone who has been determined to have the disease should be quarantined.

But that is far different than imposing such sanctions in areas/counties where the rates are quite low.

We need a realistic policy on this and that does not include Baily or the Governor laughing off a question from a reporter who asked an intelligent question about the impact of coronavirus in downstate.

  24. I would argue while the Chicago types on this board want to laugh at Bailey, and he is laughable, he is a serious problem to the IL GOP and the state. This radicalized hatred has taken over my party, and I am scared to death he’s the presumptive front-runner to be our nominee for Governor in 2022.

What will happen there is Walmart CVS and the local filling station all decide to close to clean up after this dunderhead went shopping?

Comment by The Way I See It Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 5:41 pm

  34. Here in lies the problem. I have no issue with challenging the orders, however, those who are known to be infected with this decided they can just go out and about like they’re not carrying something that is easily transmitted to others. What do we do with the known to be infected who are asymptomatic for example? They know they got it showing no symptoms and go out and about not caring that they could be part of its spread.

    Comment by Levois J Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 5:45 pm

  35. They may have enhanced cleaning, or plan to, now the release is out. I know Walmarts, CVS’s and some filling stations in my area close up for that already. So, this could just lead to an enhancement of how that’s done. I could be wrong, though.

Comment by Tynie Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 5:46 pm

  36. After asking about Chris Cuomo you’re now seeing this release as a “glass half full” situation?

  37. ===I could be wrong, though.===

I guess we’ll know for sure in two weeks or so.

Bailey and Cabello must know that stuff like this doesn’t bring us closer to lifting the stay at home order, so the only conclusion is that they just don’t care. They get to own the libs and score a valuable few minutes on Fox TV.

And people like Tynie love them for it.

    Comment by 47th Ward Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 5:49 pm

  38. Edit of my prior comment: close up after 8:30 for enhanced cleaning, but they also restock. The second enhancement I’m referencing is to check for any potentially contaminated stock, and replace it.

You go with that… does that start now, cause your insertion here on the Chris Cuomo thing makes that whole articles/facts thingy seem just plain silly.

    To the post,

What could happen in two weeks, and with possible asymptomatic victims as well, Mr. Bailey could see things change quick. Is he ready for that?

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 5:59 pm

  44. So if Bailey is responsible for this individual’s actions is the Governor responsible for any adverse outcomes that resulted from hiring nurses and medical staff away from nursing homes and hospitals to staff McCormick place?

Comment by Eastside Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 6:01 pm

  45. Of course she is the only resident in Illinois that has violated a quarantine or a shelter in place, entirely due to the lawsuit. Do I have the narrative correct? Do you have any data sets to support this?

Comment by Covid Police Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 6:01 pm

  46. OW- it does start now, but it also means I won’t speak to Bailey’s frame of mind. I’ll freely admit, my asking about Cuomo was a mistake. As far as how my last two comments came out goes, I’m on my phone and realized I needed the edit after making the initial comment.

  51. “So if Bailey is responsible for this individual’s actions…”

    That isn’t the point.

The point is: Bailey’s juvenile “let the downstate individuals decide” argument does not work and cannot work during a pandemic caused by a highly contagious and deadly virus.

  52. ===Gas prices are far lower now than they were two months ago===

My sarcasm did not come across well.

Comment by TheInvisibleMan Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 6:12 pm

  53. Mr JM,

I think Mr JM loves to convince people he understands logical fallacies. Explain for the class how that is a straw-man? The narrative requires that the lawsuit directly influenced one person’s choice to potentially endanger others. How common such rebellions are in this state would be relevant. Just because Rich Miller would ignore that data doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

Comment by Covid Police Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 6:16 pm

  54. I messaged Bailey through his website asking if someone got sick and died because of his cavalier attitude if he should be open to lawsuits. Haven’t heard anything back…But then again his site seemed to be lagging. May not have gone though. Maybe others asking the same thing.

I have asthma and chronic bronchitis so I’m a little freaked out by the idea of being exposed. And even though I was told I’m non-essential I get up every day as usual and check voice mails throughout the day and transfer/return all calls. Darn work ethic lol

Comment by HangingOn Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 6:16 pm

  55. Say what you will about Rep. Bailey, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t what he had in mind. (If anyone has a quote where he calls for knowingly infected people to be out and about, let me know and I’ll be happy to retract.)

And before we predict doom, remember this disease has asymptomatic carriers. Any one of us could have infected as many people as this woman did, without a clue what we were doing.

Comment by Saul Goodman Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 6:17 pm

  56. Let’s not even think this stunt makes Bailey the presumptive favorite to be the GOP candidate in 2022. So much can happen before then and when Ives loses she’s going to turn right back down I55 towards Springfield

    Comment by Hard D Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 6:19 pm

  57. ==Say what you will about Rep. Bailey, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t what he had in mind.==

The more troubling part is that he doesn’t care.

Comment by Token Conservative Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 6:30 pm

  58. “Anyone who has been determined to have the disease should be quarantined.”

What don’t you understand about an asymptomatic super spreader? What don’t you understand about the covidiot who breaks self quarantine and goes to Walmart? What don’t you understand about the selfish “me, me, me and my rights to go fishing” versus “us, us, us and you don’t have the right to infect me”?

Until there is widespread, random, and repeated testing, there is no way to determine who is an asymptomatic super spreader.

If you need a historical context for an asymptomatic super spreader, think Typhoid Mary.

Comment by Huh? Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 6:32 pm

  59. “The narrative requires that the lawsuit directly influenced one person’s choice to potentially endanger others.”

What you call “the narrative” is a straw-man.

I really can’t dumb it down for you any more than that.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Comment by Medvale Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 6:36 pm

  61. “someone got sick and died because of his cavalier attitude”

Wait a week or so and monitor the situation. Takes 7 days or so for symptoms to appear. Certainly do expect a bloom of cases tied to the court date and location.

Comment by Huh? Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 6:38 pm

  62. ==Any one of us could have infected as many people as this woman did==

Not if she was wearing a mask, observing social distance, and washing hands before and after her trip. You know, those onerous restrictions Bailey is fighting against.

  63. This person is an obvious whackjob.

Comment by Blue Dog Dem Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 6:46 pm

  64. My parents and my 96-year-old grandma live just a couple of miles outside of Bailey’s district. I just can’t even put into words what I think about this doofus. The sick person gallivanting around Olney.. 44 positive cases one county north… and we’ve got this guy going on national TV.

Comment by The Ford Lawyer Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 6:48 pm

  65. Oh, straight to the big show; FoxNews… If Laura Ingraham has any balls at all, she’ll ask Bailey for his thoughts on this violation in her interview tonight. I won’t hold my breath.

Over the course of my life I’ve heard so many people say there’s “no such thing as bad publicity,” but I dunno. He’s going to get his hero minute and the following that goes with it but he’ll develop other followings, too. And if folks start dying down there, that might get a little tough.

Comment by XonXoff Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 6:49 pm

  66. Bailey’s argument has been, in part, that counties should be allow to self-regulate and self-police. Like many of these “common sense” arguments it’s rooted in this belief that they don’t need to be told what to do. They do.

Comment by Pundent Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 6:50 pm

  67. Mr JM,

Again, do you know what a straw-man is? Hint: It’s not anyone’s thinking that disagrees with you. And can you answer without attempting to insult someone you think you disagree with. Go ahead and look it up, that’s fine but can you even answer objectively? You love the term and that’s certainly interesting. But you should probably explain it, since you probably use it a lot.

Comment by Covid Police Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 7:14 pm

  68. Bailey, Cabello and all of the protestores are all over not being hemmed in by unconstitutional restrictions from the libs…except for women who deicde they want an abortion or access to birth control and health care. Then it’s time to bring on the regulations. Freedom to make your own choices and the Constitition be (banned word).

Comment by Froganon Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 7:24 pm

  69. Jocko –

How long were we all running around without masks? How long were we told they were not necessary, or that we should reserve those for health care workers?

Can you swear to me that you haven’t come within six feet of anyone on any of your trips to the grocery store?

Look, I think the Governor’s doing okay so far, and its WAY early for any sort of civil disobedience. But it’s time for a little perspective here about Pritzker’s EOs. They aren’t exactly airtight, even if every one of us is trying to apply them in good faith.

Comment by Saul Goodman Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 7:28 pm

  70. Jocko — You do realize that the mask requirement doesn’t even take effect until the day after tomorrow, don’t you?

Comment by Saul Goodman Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 7:31 pm

  71. Unlike DJT and Mike Pence, I’m embarrassed to admit I haven’t been wearing a facemask regularly until about two weeks ago.
I would like to think I’ve maintained appropriate social distance but, thankfully, others have done the same.

Comment by Jocko Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 7:48 pm

  72. Interesting report that M.K. Pritzker traveled to Florida recently? Essential travel? Civil disobedience?

Comment by Elliott Ness Wednesday, Apr 29, 20 @ 7:49 pm

  73. “you should probably explain it, since you probably use it a lot.”

Your apparent inability or unwillingness to understand what a straw-man argument in no way obligates me to educate you.

    Best wishes.

  74. There’s some folks posting here — Covid Police, Saul Goodman, Tynie — who arrive at their conclusion first, then spend lots of words and energy trying desperately to defend it. Rather than respond directly to criticism or provide data (note that anecdote or repartee ≠ data), they refute arguments or criticisms that were not in fact made, shifting their ground, making counter-accusations rather than counter-arguments, or simply evading the point. Check in any logic textbook and you will find that these are indeed all elements of straw man arguments. Learn to reason like serious adults about a serious issue.

  86. Covid Police: A straw man argument is when you fabricate someone’s argument to something they never argued. Then you can beat up on the fake argument showing how manly you are.

In this case nobody made the argument: “of course she is the only resident in Illinois that has violated a quarantine or a shelter in place, entirely due to the lawsuit.” That’s a fabrication by you and that’s why people pointed out you made a strawman.
