2,253 new cases, 92 additional deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 2,253 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 92 additional deaths.

- Cook County: 1 male 30s, 1 female 40s, 3 males 40s, 3 females 50s, 1 male 50s, 8 females 60s, 10 males 60s, 6 females 70s, 11 males 70s, 3 females 80s, 7 males 80s, 4 females 90s, 3 males 90s, 1 female 100+
- DuPage County: 1 female 80s, 1 male 80s, 1 male 90s, 1 female 100+
- Jasper County: 1 male 90s
- Jefferson County: 1 male 80s, 1 male 100+
- Kane County: 1 male 50s, 2 females 90s
- Kankakee County: 1 female 90s
- Kendall County: 1 male 90s
- Lake County: 1 male 60s, 1 female 70s, 1 male 70s, 1 male 90s
- Madison County: 1 male 80s
- McHenry County: 1 female 80s, 1 male 80s
- Sangamon County: 1 female 80s
- Shelby County: 1 male 70s
- St. Clair County: 1 female 70s, 2 males 80s, 1 female 90s
- Vermilion County: 1 male 70s
- Will County: 1 male 60s, 1 male 70s, 2 females 90s

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 50,355 cases, including 2,215 deaths, in 96 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have processed 14,478 specimens for a total of 256,667.

how many test were from downstate. In Macon county as of 2 weeks ago only 160 tests total to date and we have a nursing home cluster of 5 deaths and 42 employees and residents tested positive 2 weeks ago. I would have thought the mere circle of contact would have had 500-1000 people test just from that one hotspot

Isn’t this the real question for those areas that say they can reopen? How many tests have been administered and when? A lack of positives because there are so few tests is not evidence of a lack of threat.

The governor has no authority over the legislative branch. They can meet in any form or fashion allowable under the constitution, state statute or their own rules. Of course the governor’s violating everyone else’s civil liberties so what’s another 177.

IDPH has started posting the number of tests per county:

What I’m curious about is for those 6 counties still not reporting cases, how many tests have been conducted in those counties since they’re not listed. Looking at the stats for today, it seems like there’s about a 12,000 test difference between the total count and the summing of the individual counties.

Truthteller–The State provided either 2 or 3 days ago tests for all staff and all residents of the nursing home that you referred to. The Macon County Health Department has numbers of infected, deaths and other information on their website that is updated daily. Additionally, there is a local task force of key agencies that puts out a press release daily with updated information. I check their website daily and read the task force press releases daily. The local health department and the special task force that formed have done a very good job at communicating.

1 case in their 50’s. No one else in working age. Other states are showing deaths linked to 95% having underlying issues. Why don’t we report that? These numbers prove we should be back to work. Nobody is dying of working age unless underlying issues.

My take with your thoughts and your tragedy, my hope is fewer families are faced with your tragedy too.

I want things to move forward. The economics of this crisis, and that economic crisis we’re all facing, the way to begin to move forward is the science.

Given that we have now been under social distancing ordinances for weeks, does anyone know how recent victims contracted the virus? Were they first responders? Did they violate social distancing guidelines? Is it possible to do contact tracing to determine the source of infection since in theory there has been much less social contact? Were these the people out on the lake front in late March?

Contact tracing is being done, but it’s hard to really determine where someone was exposed. Keep in mind- we are still going to the grocery store, the pharmacy, the gas station, the drive thru, the big box home improvement store. We are dropping off groceries for our families and not using delivery because we can’t wait days for it to be delivered. The virus can live on surfaces for days. We don’t know who touched what before we did. You can be doing everything you’ve been told to do and still get it.

The deaths come 3/4 weeks after you are exposed when your body is exhausted from fighting it.
