he Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 1,222 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 74 additional deaths.

Cook County: 1 male 30s, 3 males 40s, 2 females 50s, 3 males 50s, 1 unknown 50s, 1 female 60s, 5 males 60s, 5 females 70s, 3 males 70s, 2 females 80s, 5 males 80s, 3 females 90s, 1 female 100+
DuPage County: 1 male 30s, 1 female 70s, 1 male 70s, 2 females 80s
Jackson County: 1 male 70s
Kankakee County: 1 male 80s
Lake County: 1 male 50s, 3 males 60s, 1 unknown 60s, 1 female 70s, 2 males 70s, 1 female 80s, 4 males 80s
McHenry County: 1 male 50s
Monroe County: 1 female 80s, 1 female 90s
Sangamon County: 1 female 70s
Tazewell County: 1 male 80s
Whiteside County: 1 female 90s
Will County; 1 male 40s, 1 female 60s, 1 male 60s, 1 female 70s, 2 males 70s, 4 males 80s, 2 females 90s, 1 female 100+

Clay County is now reporting a case. Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 23,247 cases, including 868 deaths, in 88 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years.

The Sangamon county death was reported by WICS on Saturday, but is just now being included in the state numbers.
Most likely this was due to Sunday being Easter. Sounds like the counts reported on Sunday were inaccurate. It’s impossible to tell if we are gaining any ground if reporting is not consistently accurate.

Illinois has just a woeful testing rate compared to other similar states. Total testing for the last 3 days has declined from 6,956 to 4,848 today. Going the wrong way.

Question Smalls —

Is the rate that bad or are we still only testing people that essentially windup in the hospital or front line workers and with fewer in the hospital we aren’t testing as many?

Now I totally agree that we aren’t testing enough and even 10k a day really won’t cut it. But the number of test going down might be explainable until the asymptomatic are in line to be tested.

Given the guidelines, we’re certainly missing a larger number of cases. However, it’s likely proportional to what is tested under the guidelines. As to confirmed cases per total tests, that number is going to be relative to changes in all respiratory diseases. For example, widespread influenza has ended earlier than usual this year, so that should contribute to an increased percentage rate. Finally, has Pritzker failed so far to deliver on the state’s increased testing capacity? Yes, but try to at least look at the trend on a three-day rolling average - day to day variations in testing happen for a lot of reasons.
