  1. == write in “Gaza. ==

I really hope they don’t write in Gaza. No one has registered that name as a valid write-in, so it won’t be tabulated. And write-in ballots are a pain to account after you close the polls and are accounting for every ballot.

We’ll count every ballot, but all that will happen is it will be an undercount for the Presidential vote.

  2. Bailey and Bost are also the marquee matchup in this story about MAGA leopards eating their own faces:

  3. == plan to rebuild Statesville and Logan ==

Having a little trouble with the math. Spend $900M to save $30M a year. SJR story didn’t mention current total maintenance costs, but at the $30Ma year savings, it will take 30 years to break even … and then you will have 30 year old facilities that will need updating.

It doesn’t mention what cost there would be to update the existing facilities. And there may be other factors /;cost savings, but I’m not seeing it at first glance.

Definitely needs closer scrutiny by the GA.

  4. The opening video on Intersect Illinois’ website raises some concerns for me. It has a great view of the Chicago skyline coming down the river. The issue is the image has to be 10 years old at least. (I could see it being 20 years old). The image does not show any of the newer skyscrapers built where the branches of the river meet.

  5. Is it at all surprising that voting totals are lower? With both presidential primaries settled, I would be surprised if vote totals came anywhere close to four years ago.

No new infectious viruses starting their spread this year, though. Gotta imagine some folks were afraid to go out on Election Day in 2020 that’ll come back this time.

  7. Is Boeing in real trouble? Everything I read about them is bad and their answers are worse. Worrisome.

  8. Boeing: Their problems started when they joined up with McDonnell Douglas and put stock price and profits above safety.

OTOH: Boeing does not make engines. The 737 MAX uses two “LEAP-1B” turbofan engines from CFM Inc.

But: Boeing holds final responsibility for integrating the engines into the whole system.

  9. The way people run campaigns these days suppresses turnout. It is all about making your opponent into the devil instead of giving voters something positive to vote for.

  10. Boeing made reliable planes using proven and stable technology. Safe for commercial use.

McDonnell Douglas made experimental planes for DoD with always changing “bleeding edge” technology - hence the pilot / crews are always wearing parachutes, even if not in combat.

McDonnell Douglas’ mentality has been imposed on the commercial plane business. A bad & deadly combination.

  11. Did a couple of my comments get trapped because I was on a different restaurant Wi-Fi network than usual?

  12. That’s been happening more RNUG. I think it has to do with the timing of new stories from Isabel or Rich while we are posting, but I’m not sure on that. Maybe you and I are posting too much financial info which is repulsive, so we’re getting repulsed. 😁

    Unsure, but they’re released now.
