Bailey hasn’t raised much money, and has put almost all of his campaign eggs into the Trump endorsement basket.

Oops.

…Adding… Brenden Moore

In a statement, Bailey campaign spokesman Joe DeBose said the candidate still “proudly stands with President Trump despite disagreeing with him on this endorsement.”

“We look forward to working with President Trump to champion working families, secure our borders, defend our freedoms, and put America First—no compromises, no apologies,” DeBose said.

  5. Donald Trump has got to be the absolute biggest narcissist around. “My record setting administration.” The man cannot make any sort of comment without referring to something “great” he has done. I mean, did his Dad not love him as a child?

  6. It will be interesting to see how this endorsement plays out. Let us not forget that Bailey waltzed through the Republican primary for Governor, and a lot of rural Illinoisans like him, including a famous grifter of old.

  10. Well, at least he has his jigsaw puzzles to pass the time.

Maybe if he had rented in Trump Tower instead of the Hancock.

  11. == Bailey waltzed through the Republican primary for Governor==
Yes, but he had 45’s endorsement and also JB money behind him. He has neither this time.

Bailey’s signs even say he “fights like Trump” … has he responded online yet to this crushing news?

  12. == It will be interesting to see how this endorsement plays out.==

Let’s see, Bailey has no money. No real organization. And his opponent was just endorsed by a man a large base in that district worships like a demigod.

    Yeah, sure, let’s see.

  13. I don’t really like Trump; But I really don’t like Bailey so this is just the greatest news.

Comment by JSI Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 1:17 pm

  14. The timing of this is big too. 4 weeks out gives Bost plenty of time to highlight it on digital, mailboxes, and TV.

Comment by taco Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 1:18 pm

  15. Well, huh. Maybe at some point, Bailey will lose enough juice to wonder whether showing the world his multiple expensive illegal guns was such a bright idea after all

  16. Is Bailey still trying to put that puzzle together?

Comment by James Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 1:20 pm

  17. Matt Gaetz just endorsed Darren Bailey three days ago, this is pretty funny.

My guess is 1) Bost had internal polling showing him winning and 2) DC insiders needed to fund Trump’s presidential run pulled some strings.

  25. I drove through this District two weeks ago. Signs don’t Vote, however there were six times more Bost signs. Endorsement by the local party helps Bost considerably.

Comment by Al Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 1:44 pm

  26. Since Bailey made multiple trips to Mar-a-Lago, wonder if he regrets that effort now. And the appearance of the odd couple—Darren Bailey and Matt Gaetz—did little to move the needle towards Bailey.

Looks like Bailey will be on the porch and not in Congress.

    Comment by Rudy’s teeth Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 1:56 pm

  27. Given the wacky reality we currently exist in, there’s a very real chance that following this Bailey might say Trump was a liberal deep state plant this whole time.

  28. “Maybe if he had rented in Trump Tower instead of the Hancock.”

    Delicious.

Comment by Skokie Man Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 2:01 pm

  29. ==My guess is 1) Bost had internal polling showing him winning ==

Probably a good guess. Donald Trump wouldn’t endorse him unless he was fairly certain that Bost would win.

Comment by NIU Grad Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 2:05 pm

  32. Simple math, more money on hand, and polling that shows you are ahead. Trump needed to endorse Bost probably more than the reverse, if only to say he backs winners, and then gets to claim he (trump) put them over the top.

  33. == I mean, did his Dad not love him as a child? ==

No, but can you really blame him?

Comment by Gruntled University Employee Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 2:14 pm

  34. Bailey’s campaign just looks absurd now. All his signage says “fights like trump” yet he can’t get trumps endorsement. All his signs talk about being a farmer, yet he cant get the Farm Bureau endorsement. I wonder if Mary Miller is calling to congratulate Bost today?

Comment by James Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 2:16 pm

  35. How much bost paid to have that endorsement? tramp doesn’t do anything that somehow helps him.

    Bailey? who?

Comment by Huh? Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 2:17 pm

  36. Wonder how many cartons of books—“Letters to Trump”—are sitting in a barn on Bailey’s property? When Don Jr. came to campaign, that gimmick cost Bailey a bundle.

    Comment by Rudy’s teeth Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 2:31 pm

  37. Heh.

    Comment by Dotnonymous x Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 2:31 pm

  38. I’m not one to give Trump compliments, but he at least has the good decency to recognize a complete and total lightweight loser and not endorse one… in this circumstance.

Comment by TJ Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 2:35 pm

  39. ==How much bost paid to have that endorsement? tramp doesn’t do anything that somehow helps him.==

Payback for voting against impeachment and paying forward in the event he needs folks to try to block election certification and/or is impeached again. (Trump assumes he will be elected, and will likely commits a high crime (like giving state secrets to Putin) and will need “no” votes.)

  40. Bailey is finding out that loyalty is a one-way street for Trump.

  41. Bailey’s statement plumbs the depths of “dumped ex-boyfriend who still thinks there’s a chance” territory.

Comment by Roadrager Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 3:15 pm

  42. “I mean, did his Dad not love him as a child?” From the article I just read, “No.”

Comment by Skeptic Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 3:19 pm

  43. Smart move for Bailey would probably be to end his campaign, in deference to Trump, and hope for an appointed spot if Trump becomes President again. Bailey made this all about Trump, and can show fealty by folding his campaign.

Comment by OneOpinion Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 3:25 pm

  44. OK one perv for Bailey another for BossToss who is the Harley Dealer in Marion backin’?

    Comment by Annon'in Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 3:34 pm

  45. I fear this move by Trump may collapse Bailey’s house of cardboard ammo boxes.

    Comment by Dotnonymous x Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 3:44 pm

  46. I wonder if Bailey will receive a pair of faux gold tennis shoes…as the consolation prize?

I can’t help but see Bailey hopping clods in his Trump tennies…WHEEEEE!

    Comment by Dotnonymous x Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 3:51 pm

  47. Perhaps DJT thought Bailey was Nikki Haley.. oh wait, Haley is Nancy Pelosi. Isn’t that Marla Maples in the photo? E Jean Carroll is not his type. How can you keep these people straight?

Comment by Lincoln Lad Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 4:14 pm

  48. Bailey is done, stick a fork in him. The republican party is done with Bailey too.

Comment by The Old Man Tuesday, Feb 20, 24 @ 4:22 pm

  49. ==proudly stands with President Trump despite disagreeing with him==

Those two things don’t go together. Donald Trump demands fealty. There is no disagreeing with him.

Your hero worship got you nowhere Mr. Bailey.

    Criminal records count.

As for Bailey, I’m sure this setback will cause a great deal of self-reflection and truly humble the man. /s
