  1. Re: subscriber only section — none of the locally elected pols are going to want governance reform because they prefer having total control over their part of the system. That was the hang up last time the GA visited this issue, and I don’t see the current GA wanting to upset their local mayors and county chairpeople, even if it wastes money.

  2. Very happy to see Steve McMichael and Devin Hester elected to the NFL HOF (Peppers, too). McMichael was a key part of the greatest defense ever. Hester was the most exciting player to watch on every kick return.

As a transplant to IL from an east coast state, this was (and remains) my biggest complaint about Illinois governance in general, including not just the thousands of home rule entities who can do whatever the heck they want, to individual Chicago aldermen running their wards like independent fiefdoms.

It just feels so backwards and counterproductive to positive change.

  6. While we strive to fight back against all the dogs barking about how awful IL is we must join in the ridicule the disaster that is electronic ticketing roll out at METRA. It is 2024 sports fans. The conversion from coal fired to diesel for trains was quicker. Heads should roll.

  8. @Homebody

I too am a transplant to Illinois, from an East Coast State.

On the positive side of Illinois, I remember when I first came here I was literally shocked to see towns having open carry celebrations with beer and booze being sold at the festivals. Where I came from, “drunk in public” was a law, and drinking outside a bar was not allowed.

So, there is some good stuff too, right?

    Happy weekend your way.

  9. Congrats to the Bears for making the Hall of Fame. Mongo was a beast and entertaining.

I don’t miss New England blue laws. Being able to buy booze at Jewel or Walgreens when I moved to Chicago was huge. No need to waste an extra trip when doing errands just to get a 12 pack of beer.

You still haven’t fully acclimated, a local would probably say “The Jewels”.
