Only 1% of people with firearm owners identification cards in the state had registered by the deadline, according to the Illinois State Police. Just over 29,000 people reported nearly 69,000 weapons as of Dec. 31, according to the state police. There are 2.5 million FOID holders in Illinois. […]
State police said Thursday the portal remains open, but the agency was vague on the consequences of registering after the deadline, saying the law “does not set forth penalties for late submissions.”
“Decisions on how to enforce PICA will be up to each law enforcement and prosecutorial jurisdiction within Illinois,” a spokeswoman for the state police said in an email to the Sun-Times.

I don’t know if this is allowed but Darren Bailey is a nut. I really wish he would be arrested although I am sure that he would like that. Maybe he would defend himself and he would then be convicted

If it’s a felony, its 365 in days in jail or more.
If it’s a misdemeanor, it’s 364 days or less.

And now we have at least a decade of terrible stories to look forward to about ‘what easily should have been done’, after the next shooting - and there will be. Because it’s not like there’s any consequences for these failed local departments, or that any of them have the integrity to resign due to it.

So are you saying there are more than 2+ million citizens in the state with assault rifles? For comparison, Pakistan’s armed forces total approx 1.6 million.
We continue to move from a nation of laws, to a nation of feelings.

I seem to remember a whole bunch of people on here shouting about how the sheriffs don’t get to pick and choose which laws they are going to enforce.
I see the Sate police saying they are going o ignore the deadline and not enforce that. Did JB say somethng about that??

Caulking was arguing that the Illinois Supreme Court decision should be thrown out because two of the justices had a conflict of interest and should’ve recused themselves. Maybe he just doesn’t watch the right cable news channel and missed all the stories about ethics complaints against United States Supreme Court Justices? Because there was absolutely zero chance they were going to take up that issue this year.

That’s just an absolutely terrible grouping by Bailey. However, it does do a perfect job of demonstrating why this type of weapon doesn’t belong in the hands of average citizens.

this exactly, and add to that the fact that no one including the ISP knows the identity of, or the raw number of unregistered “assault” weapons. So enforcement would be limited to LEOs pulling someone over for an unrelated offense and happening to find a now-banned weapon in the possession of the suspect.

Spot on. MOST people with a FOID do not own a weapon on the list. I have a FOID and CCL and have nothing that requires registration.

That picture of his guns protecting his jigsaw puzzle is just wrong on so many levels. First of all he has his gun over some of the pieces, so when is he supposed to know when they are needed? My mother’s second husband liked his guns. He displayed them in the living room in a locked case. They were not toys or props to him they were tools.
This guy looks like a poser.

I had this same thought. Last fall I sent my parents a list of guns/gun categories to be reported and asked if my father - a life-long gun owner, FOID holder, and hunter who conscientiously abides by firearms laws - needed any help registering his weapons. I didn’t know if he had any that needed to be registered, and I thought he might. As it turns out, he doesn’t.

I’m checking in to add to the list myself as another gun owner and FOID holder who has no guns requiring registration. The 1% metric is useless. It is like saying that only a quarter of 1% of Illinoisans have registered their sex offences.

There is like a 6% rule or something that they believe 6% of Americans own an AR-15.
That would mean something like of the 12 million people in IL that 660,000 or so would have an AR which is on the banned list.
So at best 5 to 6 % of people registered.
Which would likely be one of the most non-compliant instances of citizens not following the law in modern history. Pretty interesting and I’m curious as to how IL moves forward.

That’s a compliance rate of about 4 percent. Capanna said that the high rate of noncompliance with the law could only be interpreted as a large-scale civil disobedience, given the high level of interest and concern about the law on the part of gun owners.

No, it was breaking the law and many paid the price. In this instance, buffoons like Bailey think it is ok and don’t believe they should suffer consequences for their actions.
Bailey is both a stereotype and joke at the same time. He wants to play dress up army man and act like he is tough. But, when he had the chance he passed on military service. Not sure what he spent his time on, but it wasn’t diction lessons.

JS Mill, I do expect they know they can be held accountable and probably have a contingency plan if they are arrested that does not involve a shoot out with police. Being arrested is possibly what is wanted in order to have standing in a court case challenging the law at another angle.
As far as his lack of service, I am not sure what that has to do with anything. I served, proudly so, and I owned a few weapons that are now banned. Hopefully that does not place me in the same level of contempt you have for others.

Second, have you ever spoken to Bailey individually? If you have some experience with him one on one with his political ideology, you would be in a much position to know if he is being serious with that statement. I can only judge from what I have seen by people and by what little I know of him

The law speaks for itself, you chose to break it. You word means nothing as it pertains to matters of the law given your confession. Moral relativism is the path little kids often follow, we do try to be adults here so arguments like “but Jimmy doesn’t have to go to bed now” are pretty sad.

just like a lot of people decided not to follow the law when it came to pot, a lot of people are fed up with Illinois gun laws. Other groups choose to not follow laws, say blocking road ways and expressways for their civil disobedience and this is just an extension of that. It’s not about what aboutism it’s simply a large number of people have said enough.
I know several people who registered things, some had short barreled rifle already in the NFA registry so it didn’t matter. Some have jobs with licenses that a criminal charge could jeopardize their livelyhood.
us gun owners have been checked and rechecked with background checks and FOID cards. so we’re not the “criminal class” causing the mayhem in the streets of Chicago. But Pritzker & co and yall think we are the problem — so be it.
first offense is a misdemeanor IF you get arrested and IF you get charged. No cash bail so i and others are willing to roll with that
