  1. somebody needs to find a way to get these migrants working. i continue hearing that certain industries cannot find people willing to work. the migrants want nothing more than to work so they can get homes with heat for their families and put food on the table. the current situation is unsustainable. for many, yesterday was their first encounter with snow and cold. this is chicago on november 1st. weatherwise, the worst is yet to come.

  2. What is going on in Hinsdale 86? It’s non-stop drama over there but local news never gives the background.

  3. Happy to report that my two planters that were too heavy to move survived the two days of frigid weather. I uncovered them this morning and they look great. I will be transplanting the geraniums before it gets so cold again.

Not as many trick or treaters this year. The cold weather no doubt was a big factor. It was fun to see the kids all dressed up.

My last trick or treater came about 7:15 pm by himself. When I opened the door there stood a teen dressed in camo with an AK-47 or other gun strapped to him. Thank goodness I could tell it was a plastic replica. He was nice and polite and said thank you when I gave him his candy. When he turned to walk away I could see the big patch on his back that said POLICE. I was so flabbergasted that I didn’t ask about his outfit. His costume is a sign of the times, I guess

  4. Read “A House That Made History” by MK Pritzker over the last week. A friend picked up a copy for me at a discussion presentation our First Lady put on and I am comfortable in saying the book is a must read if you like Illinois history.
I really think if you like history you find the book not just “good” but “amazing”. You can just about open it to any chapter and learn something new about our state. Also the photos are incredible.

  5. A tiny number of trick-or-treaters last night. Disappointing. I mean, I know it was cold, but I recall wading through snow and ice as a child trick-or-treating.
