  1. Hey, Darren Bailey, we all know where you got that from:
    “Band-Aids don’t fix bullet holes
    You say sorry just for show
    If you live like that, you live with ghosts”

    Comment by Torco Sign Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 12:12 pm

  2. Right, just what America doesn’t need, a moderate that can negotiate and compromise. (snark)

    Let’s Make America Gripe Again

  3. If Mike Bost does a pay per view style fight with Matt Gaetz, I’d buy tickets.

    Comment by Candy Dogood Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 12:18 pm

  4. Gym Gordon? The one who helped orchestrate the January 6th Terrorist Attack?

    Comment by Jerry Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 12:20 pm

  5. The fact is that the top vote getters for speaker are:

    Jeffries
    McCarthy
    Jordan

    In that order.

    Bailey’s call for Jordan to get the job amounts to a participation trophy for a third place, two-time loser.

    If Democrats and moderate Republicans want to sink the Jordan ship permanently, they just need to start using the words lost/loser as many times as they can in the same sentence as Jordan’s name, and never mention Trump.

    Trump knows that Loser is not his brand, he will quickly walk away from Jordan and we can all get back to governing.

    Comment by Thomas Paine Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 12:20 pm

  6. ==LOCK THE DOOR==

    “Key? What key? I never saw a key. Anyhoo, time for my three-week mid-autumnal recess, hope y’all can get this sorted by Veterans Day.”

    Comment by Roadrager Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 12:26 pm

  7. Intimidation, bullying and violence. Seems the Republican way these days. Not a good look. At all.

    Comment by Too Much Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 12:31 pm

  8. It’s pretty clear from what’s happening in the House to Bost v. Bailey that Republicans lack a common set of values/beliefs. They have no common governing principles. That’s why they can’t form a coalition. There is a small minority that is intent on burning the whole place down.

    Electing Bailey would be a vote to burn it all down. Bost isn’t exactly the volunteer fire department, but he’s been a part of coalitions before, and is, by far, the lesser of two evils in this race.

    Comment by 47th Ward Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 12:33 pm

  9. hey maybe they have someone who knows how to coach folks and cares about who they coach and knows how to keep folks happy and safe…oh, wait….

  10. Lock that door… don’t hold him back. Arrest them for assault if it occurs. You go tough guy…

    Comment by Lincoln Lad Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 12:37 pm

  11. It’s super important to keep in mind about the cultists…

    The goal was NEVER to govern, it was to burn down all they could, starting with McCarthy’s Speakership at a time of Gaetz’s (and his band of nihilists) choosing… but what was learned instead is… once the dog catches the bumper, not governing isn’t a real option to anything.

    Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 12:41 pm

  12. === Sit in the room. Lock the door. ===

    Insights into Bailey Christian Academy management style perhaps?

    Comment by H-W Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 12:45 pm

  13. What I find hilarious is that the Republicans are attempting to blame the Democrats for the mess they have gotten themselves into. The fact is that is the Republicans who have brought this on themselves with the ridiculous rule that 1 person can call a vote to “vacate the chair.” This small group of right wing terrorists is single handedly destroying the House of Representatives and the entire concept of governing. They are not interested in governing (including Darren Bailey). They want chaos. They want tv coverage. They refuse to do anything unless they get their way. I wish the majority of Republicans would take a stand against this group and put them in their place.

    Comment by Demoralized Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 12:46 pm

  14. Bost isn’t about to “lunge” at anyone.

    What happens if that person turns around and squares off at him???

    He’s talk, show, a phony. One of the reasons his family had to take away the successful trucking company given to him that he nearly bankrupted.

    Comment by Jerry Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 12:58 pm

  16. “Kinda reminds me of this…”

    The more I watch it, the funnier it gets.

    Everyone else in that picture has their own entertaining reaction. From the few eyes following the thrown paper like a cat looking at a laser pointer, the woman who looks like she is about to cover her face to hide the laughing, to the guy who moves a total of 3 pixels while everything is happening around his head.

    Comment by TheInvisibleMan Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 12:59 pm

  17. ===Bost isn’t about to “lunge” at anyone. ===

    Um, you’re using footage from more than a decade ago to judge a reporter’s claim from today?

    Comment by Rich Miller Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 1:04 pm

  18. Bailey is a televangelist that’s a nihilist without any self reflection to things like farm subsidies, and Bailey is willing to burn it down, pray it both continues and ends, and will tell the cult only Trump can save us all, all the while… grifting

    Bost is a survivalist at the cost of democracy and the republic, because being in congress is more important than being in, and defending, our democracy. There’s no pander he will miss, no grovel he won’t take. His votes on impeachment speak for themselves.

    Patriots, none, but traitors both to our Republic.

    But, one is gonna win.

    Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 1:20 pm

  19. “Um, you’re using footage from more than a decade ago to judge a reporter’s claim from today?”

    No. What I am using is knowing Mike Bost for thirty years. Long before he appeared on your Springfield radar.

    Bailey is right, don’t all of you know you put prayer on a bullet hole? WHat is wrong with you guys? /s

    Bailey is not smart enough to know that he did a bigly self own there.

  23. Baley doesn’t want career pols. Boast has been in office for appx. 10 years Jordan for 16 years Yet Bailey supports Jordan what is difference he is not running against Jordan. and Trump supports Jordan who Bailey wants to appear all Trump.

    Comment by slim Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 1:45 pm

  24. Very scary, reading about one or more GOP legislators being allegedly physically threatened for voting against Jordan. That’s the fruit of the right wing, from years of stoking the base. Who would vote for this embarrassing and dangerous failure but the extremist minority who supports it?

    Comment by Grandson of Man Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 1:47 pm

  25. If I understand Bailey correctly, I finally agree with him. Since the speaker does not need to vote for someone in congress, elect Taylor Swift(bp)

    Comment by Dotnonymous x Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 3:06 pm

  31. Jordan has not passed a single piece of legislation in 16 years. No wonder Bailey idolizes him. Mutual support network for two of the laziest people ever to hold representative office. Lazy intellectually , legislatively , and morally. A very low bar for Bost but he still may not clear it

    Comment by Stormsw7706 Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 3:22 pm

  32. Thats Mike.

    Also takes me back to the time when Old Sen. Sam got into it with Sen. Rhodes.

    Comment by Norseman Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 3:41 pm

  33. From CNN

    “At one point, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, who led the effort to oust Kevin McCarthy as speaker, was told to sit down by McCarthy but refused. Illinois Rep Mike Bost then “got all emotional and ugly and was cussing him” and “telling him it’s all his fault,” one member said.”

  34. Imagine someone having the gall to lose his cool because of Mike Madigan’s antics

    He was always so above board in his dealings and reasonable and moderate to boot

    Comment by Lucky Pierre Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 3:49 pm

  35. ===because of Mike Madigan’s antics ===

    lol

    The leaders were working on a program to reduce pensions and Bost was totally opposed to that.

    Comment by Rich Miller Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 3:51 pm

  36. ===Mike Madigan===

    Good thing Madigan is gone… glad you got that out of your system, instead of reminding that you support insurrectionists yourself

    Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 3:52 pm

    Comment by Dotnonymous x Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 4:23 pm

  39. ===having the gall to lose his cool===

    You bought his routine? You really are a sucker. Bost practiced that “outrage” prior to his performance on the House floor.

    Comment by 47th Ward Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 4:47 pm

  40. Very disappointed seeing commenters being allowed to post comments that ridicule Bailey’s Christian beliefs.

    I thought religious insults were impolite, and off limits.

    (Someone even got fired for an extreme example of the same thing today.)

    Do better.
    Whether you are agnostic, atheist, Muslim, Jew, Christian, , etc., you shouldn’t be belittling another’s faith, while claiming your faith, or disapproval of faith, is superior.

    Comment by RuhRow Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 4:57 pm

  41. ===Bailey’s Christian beliefs===

    Bailey is trading off his beliefs, like a televangelist. If you don’t like that he does that, your beef is likely with Bailey.

    Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 5:00 pm

  42. ==that ridicule Bailey’s Christian beliefs==

    He doesn’t need to be ridiculed. He does a good job of ridiculing himself.

    Comment by Demoralized Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 5:02 pm

  43. =Very disappointed seeing commenters being allowed to post comments that ridicule Bailey’s Christian beliefs.=

    Bailey chooses to cloak himself in Christianity while doing non-Christian things. It is an affront to the basic tenets of Christianity. We should always call that out.

    Comment by Pundent Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 5:23 pm

  44. There’s many politicians and pundits that are vocal about their beliefs.
    Let’s maybe say it’s off limits to call any religious people “traders” and ridicule their faith. It’s best to stick to policy.

    If not, let’s make sure that all religious people can be side-swiped with insults.

    Comment by RuhRow Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 5:25 pm

  45. =Very disappointed=

    Good, now do Bailey and all of his unchristian actions and statements.

    Crickets.

    Comment by JS Mill Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 5:28 pm

  46. ===Let’s maybe say it’s off limits===

    Get your own blog. When I comment on your blog…

    Bailey is a phony Christian that purposely handles himself and his faith like a televangelist on the grift. Again, I’d ask myself how Bailey acts on his faith that’s honest to it?

    He takes Apple Pay and Visa…

    Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 5:28 pm

  47. @ RuhRow

    Bailey’s Christian beliefs are not being discussed. I questioned his management style. But since you brought it up, I would also suggest his words and his action evoke Matt 18:15-17 as an appropriate concern here.

    Comment by H-W Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 5:32 pm

  48. ===are not being discussed===

    The phoniness of Bailey begins with his character.

    Bailey also describes himself in his faith defining himself in it.

    Not unlike a televangelist.

    I fed you, - RuhRow -. Good look. Go in peace. Beware of false prophets

    Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 5:34 pm

  49. What if someone wanted to say Pritzker was a fake Jew?
    Are Biden, Pelosi, and the Pope, fake Catholics?
    I’m sure there’s numerous imperfect Muslims that should be called fake, too.

    It seems very judgmental to claim to know what someone’s personal beliefs are.
    I don’t think anyone commenting here is a expert in Christian Theology, or any other theological belief systems.

    None of us are working at the pearly gate. That’s between Bailey and his Maker.

    (I appreciate being allowed to defend my position on Rich’s blog.)

    Comment by RuhRow Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 5:37 pm

  50. ===the Pope===

    If you’re comparing Bailey… to the Pope… you’ve already lost the argument.

    Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 5:43 pm

  51. From the Gospel of Matthew 7:1 via the Amplified Bible

    Do not judge and criticize and condemn (others unfairly with an attitude of self-righteous superiority) so that you will not be judged (unfairly)

    Comment by Lucky Pierre Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 5:47 pm

  52. =Let’s maybe say it’s off limits to call any religious people “traders” and ridicule their faith.=

    Why do you assume we’re attacking Bailey and not defending Christianity? Associating with a religion does not give you the right to hijack it for political purposes. I think the Pope would agree.

    Comment by Pundent Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 5:51 pm

  53. Then Jesus said unto them, “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.”

    - Matthew 16:6

  54. ===Why do you assume we’re attacking Bailey and not defending Christianity? Associating with a religion does not give you the right to hijack it for political purposes.===

    This might’ve crystallized best to a discussion point.

    Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 5:58 pm

  55. fwiw, Pharisees and Sadducees were Jewish, not Christian.

    Have a nice evening.
    Say something nice to/about someone you disagree with.

    Comment by RuhRow Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 6:02 pm

  56. ===Pharisees and Sadducees were Jewish, not Christian===

    Narrator: Jesus was Jewish.

    Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Oct 19, 23 @ 6:03 pm

  57. @ RahRow

    My point: Bailey is being quite arrogant and mean spirited. The are leadership qualities that have brought these debates in our state to a low level. If he wants to lead he needs to start first with humility. I am so done with pontifications and arrogance. It is a bad management strategy on all levels.
