  1. While the Illini continue to wander around the football waste lands, SIU, EIU and ISU are all ranked. Maybe Wonderboy Whitman should drop the Illini down a level and see if his latest football hire can win at that level.

  6. Cooler today, and breezy. But the sun is out. A lovely fall day.

  7. It’s good to see Justin Field’s continued development. He’s looked like a first round pick the last two games. And it shouldn’t be lost that it happened after he called out the lousy play calling following the first three games. While I still think the organization is a train wreck, and the team will continue to lose more games than it wins, Field’s is proving that he’s not the problem.

  8. My furnace came on for the first time this morning.

    I’m gonna try to hold the line as long as I can. Sunday or Monday overnight is looking like my first furnace fire-up.

  9. =And it shouldn’t be lost that it happened after he called out the lousy play calling following the first three games.=

    I’ve wondered about the connection between this too. I’m trying to be optimistic that a closer version of the real Justin Fields is what we are seeing. And right now I’m choosing to trust Fields way more than Eberflus.

    And RIP Dick Butkus. The news got me to watch some old NFL Films. Gosh what a treasure trove that stuff is; orchestra’s, poetry and John Facenda narrating the brutality of 60s and 70s football.

  10. That’s more like it, Bears. The team did not completely fall apart in the second half, but for a bit it was starting to look like the Broncos game.

  11. The weather coming up next week is my favorite weather of the year, 55 degrees and dry. Instead I’m packing to take a trip to the south where it will be 90 degrees every day and I’m going to miss it all. I’d be livid but for the fact this is my first vacation in a while.

  12. RIP Dick Butkus, icon of his NFL generation.
    The Bears won, right? I mean, was I dreaming?
    And yes, John Facenda of NFL Films voiceover fame, reading lines like: “Now is the season of the Bears discontent; the cold winds of losses batter Soldier Field…” (You just read it in Facenda’s voice, by the way :) ).

  13. D.J. Moore is a keeper. Wow, what a game for him.

  14. ===D.J. Moore is a keeper===

    Why they didn’t target him more earlier is a massive mystery to me.

  15. The narrative now “out of Halas Hall” is this idea that Fields being more exposed to the larger play-calling options shoulda started earlier, and the Bears woulda had more touches for Moore and better play calling in the overall.

    Now, I’ve been accused of writin’ things folks don’t understand, but if I merely read that thought, it is about the coaches and play calling, not necessarily about Fields, but when you aren’t a proven superstar you can’t blame coaches even if later it turns out to be about the coaches.

  16. I only tuned in part way through the 3rd quarter. I thought there was something wrong with my eyesight.

    I guess Bears had a good 24 hours. Positive numbers from Fields, Moore, and others. Dumping of Claypool. We’ll see what the next week or two bring.
