The White Sox are a Chicago institution, and the Governor always hopes Chicago teams will stay in Chicago. Governor Pritzker doesn’t support taxpayer subsidies for private teams, but with a lease that has six years remaining on Guaranteed Rate Field, this will likely be an ongoing conversation for several years among the team owners and local stakeholders. The Governor will ensure taxpayers are prioritized in those conversations when those conversations begin.

I know the fire was already lit with the public (along with the tar and feathers) with the Bears’ move, but with 6 years left on the lease at Guaranteed Rate, the timing makes sense for Reinsdorf to explore options. With that said, let the righteous indignation on public subsidy of pro sports teams continue.

I certainly don’t agree with JB on many topics but I am glad he is on the ball on this one. Pro sports are ok the Sox are an institution, but the taxpayers come before sports.

Any deal with any sports franchise should be evaluated just as we evaluate deals with Rivian or any other company. Understanding the economic impact of these teams would be helpful.
At the same time, the Sox have lost money three years in a row. If they cannot be profitable here, they are gonna have to try to be profitable somewhere else.
Maybe Naples, Florida?

Count me in as a member of the NOPE club. Not One Penny Ever for the White Sox, Bears, etc. to fund their move. And I’m a fan.

The state and the city need to be proactive and work with the White Sox. No one wins if this is just a repeat of what’s going on with the Bears.

If anything, the Bears misused their leverage, the White Sox have no leverage, Reinsdorf is inflating value for a sale.

The Sox are now worth $2+ billion.
The idea of losing money is a “paper” type of loss, and while “loss” is loss, the idea of this franchise on any brink of insolvency is ridiculous to the honesty of the situation
