* This controversy from yesterday’s trial wasn’t really mentioned in any of today’s news stories…
This conversation happened months after Mapes was forced to resign his position.
* More from that November, 2018 conversation…
“You did day in and day out stuff,” McClain told Mapes as he broached the question of whether Mapes would be comfortable going through the list he’d drafted of member assignments to House committees.
Mapes agreed to take a look.
“Are you comfortable with me telling him I talked to you?” McClain asked, referring to Madigan in a phone conversation he did not know was being recorded by federal agents.
Mapes again said he was fine with that, as long as the speaker was too.
“That’s what it comes down to: I don’t want to get in crosshairs with him and some of his staff,” Mapes said. “I hear the view that some of his staff doesn’t like me and they’re on path to shut me out.”

Meisner makes a good point about other evidence (there’s plenty), and we still don’t know what exactly Mapes’ defense attorneys wanted redacted.

Interesting. You can strike it from the record but not from the jurors’ memory, which makes it grounds for an appeal. Though, the evidence seems so overwhelming thus far, Mapes is gonna need a couple other big breaks to shake out of this.

Here’s the thing to Mapes;
Let’s say he’s lying (all alleged, so bare this in mind, please) to protect MJM… not unlike a mob friend/acquaintance, and being a stand up person.
Every one of those films, every one of those stories… those guys… no one visits, no one thanks at the time, or even in prison.
The man is older, there’s no second act, he should be retired somewhere, enjoying life and all that retirement is.
If Mapes is convicted… come 2 months in… how many times you think anyone from his political life are gonna be there for him?
Henry Hill even said it, “we’re on our own, I’m in here”
You’re not a hero for not telling the Feds what they likely already knew, or could easily disprove in your responses… and there won’t be many that’ll “thank him”
It’s the most bizarre thinking to full immunity… and alleged lying to probable falsehoods.

Correct all around.
Moreover, compounded by the fact that many, genuinely, disliked this guy. Being feared, does not mean being respected.
There are many lessons to be learned in all this.

One accidentally played wiretap is hardly grounds for a mistrial. Mapes is a veritable cornucopia of incrimination based on the hundreds of hours of wiretaps and reams of emails we have seen. Paints a picture of sleazy inside deals, corruption, and most importantly that he lied to the Feds.

To OW’s point, I dont even understand how he is protecting Madigan by denying certain conversations took place.
For example, say he and McClain did not discuss committee assignments. OK, how does this “protect Madigan”? Or if they did take place. So what? Where does the “protection” come in?

Don’t understand why this bit needed to be redacted, though it does seem to be very incriminating considering Mapes’ memory failing. Irrespective of Mapes, the MJM and McClain trial will take its own path… there are plenty of other witnesses and evidence I expect. Mapes lying after negotiating immunity might be the dumbest thing of all. It accomplished nothing in the scheme of things (pun intended).

think there is so much there that the jurors may be confused when they come to look at the evidence. that’s Mapes best play.

I’ve wanted to say this…Madigan fired Mapes. At that point, Mapes owed Madigan nothing. And Mapes had immunity later. Spill the freakin’ beans.

John-on-the-spot-2:24pm—–Spot on. He owed Madigan nothing. There are others too that Madigan betrayed……and they also owe him nothing. What goes around comes around. No sympathy here. Hopefully Madigan or his minions read this thread.
