This is a blow to Illinois. This is a blow to our freedoms. This is a blow to our constitution, the 2nd Amendment. This is a blow to this great republic. My question to you is how much more of this are we going to take, friends?
I’m standing here on my front porch. This porch kind of became famous through the governor’s run and became famous when I was speaking on nonsense. And I made a statement. And sometimes when we make these statements, we don’t know where this is going to go. But if need be, this front porch will be my final stand. I will not allow anyone to infringe on my property on my second amendment rights. I will not allow anyone to come and take anything from me. And if need be, as I quoted before, I will die on this front porch before I give up any of my Second Amendment freedoms.

What are you doing? How are you making your stand?

Your porch isn’t famous, but if you are a man of your word it seems like it will be infamous.

If this is what you truly believe, then step up and be a man of your word. But there are 26 other amendments and it seems like you do not believe in the 1st (and by the founding fathers opinions) the most important.

Darren Bailey’s grandstanding to promote his vision and to obtain another elected office shows his intractability to compromise. Bailey’s ego suffered a huge blow when he was soundly defeated by JB Pritzker.
Bailey’s performance in Highland Park with his “Let’s Move On” statement shows that he is a hypocrite at heart.
Bailey’s hobby is running for office. First, State Rep, then State Senate followed by a losing campaign for governor to a run for Congress. Bailey likes an audience and rambles on about Conservative this and that policy ad nauseum
It might be time to take up golf and get some exercise while walking the course instead of running for another office. At least golf would get Darren off the front porch.

It truly concerns me that folks are fearmongering like this.
Back in seminary I had the great privilege of getting to meet the psychologist Arnold Goldberg who came to speak to our Theology class about Self Psychology and his work with Heinz Kohut. We were reading Restoration of the Self at the time.
The reason I bring this up is because of the concept of “self objects “ in Self Psychology.
For folks like Bailey guns are very strong self objects. Thus to limit them I’d to, in their mind, limit their very selves.
It’s a psychological dysfunction.
Of course in reality the assault weapon decision does not actually attack their self…but they perceive it as such.
I think about the lessons I learned a lot these days.
To poorly “self differentiated” ( Bowen) people having their self limited by the rule of law/government/regulation is perceived as an attack on their very selves.
To those who are well self differentiated this behavior can seem so befuddling. Science/experience/good governance/the rule of law are guiderails and need to be defended and maintained. This is what Reinhold Niebuhr was talking about in his book Christian Realism.
This isn’t a charge against Republicans either. The poorly self differentiated exist across the entire political spectrum.

Mr. Bailey did you read the opinion? The lawyers specifically waived any 2nd Ammendment claims. If you didn’t it’s right here on Rich’s excerpt. You’re losing your mind over a silly cash grab that was doomed a long time ago. I can see why Baley took this approach
He needs to win a primary, he wins the primary, odds are he wins in the general.
Odds are the voters in the Republican party are going to be the hard-core folks at this point, don’t need to worry about getting moderate Republican votes because he wasn’t going to get them, and they may not exist in number to matter anymore.
He could have said, ‘I will review the ruling and all of the opinions’
However, taking this sort of ‘out of my cold dead hands’ approach plays better with a decent chunk of the base and likely helps him with fundraising around the country. “Baley stands for patriots in Illinois and their rights to own big powerful manly guns that can hold many bullets”, which plays with some folks.
Do I think this sort of wise political thinking is what drove him to say what he said vs some sort of desire to have a last stand because he can’t have a high capacity magazine? Ehhhh

There was an assault weapons ban that was in place and expired.
There was no civil war during that ban, unless I missed it, and someone should update me how it all worked out.
There was an insurrection recently, those participating have found out how that turns out when they were made to face charges in court.

All for just gun registration? Bailey can keep assault weapons he owns prior to the law taking effect.
What kind of message does it send to the communities targeted by Republican law and order and back the blue positions? That you better comply with cops or get shot, but we can shoot back.
Hopefully it’s just a political stunt and Bailey really wouldn’t do something that dumb, but it’s dangerous rhetoric. Words from politicians can inflame. There is no party leadership in Illinois or nationally to tamp this down. The leader is the one inflaming.

Earlier this week, a man in Utah made online threats to President Biden that were taken seriously. After a visit from the Feds, he escalated the rhetoric and would up dead.
I don’t see Bailey doing this. He’d cower as soon as he got a visit, but the rhetoric he’s spewing and encouraging is the same. Shame on him.

Consider the source and the fact that Bailey is campaigning for US Congress in one of the most conservative districts in Illinois. This type of talking plays well and appeals to the voters in that district.

Bailey’s feigned outrage is another campaign tactic to promote himself to his followers. Now he’s raging about the Illinois Supreme Court ruling.
During his campaign for governor, Bailey disparaged Chicago as an unruly child and labeled the city a Hellhole. Yet, Bailey leased a luxury condo in the Hancock. What?
