Maybe the wrong question is being asked?
What exactly will make Sox management compelled to want to be a competitive franchise… as a big market franchise that they should be… and make the culture about achieving not existing.
What will compel this ownership?
The money and worth of this franchise and the high ceiling that exists but never is a goal says so much about this ownership, because if you go “way back”… Einhorn and Reinsdorf, they talked of New York baseball and “as kids” and it’s now like a child with a toy they’ve outgrown, Reinsdorf sees the dollars and business of sports and the joy of kid from New York loving baseball has long since left 35th and Shields… like moving across the street to that new building, not existing for nostalgia but built for money and value.
So… what will compel management to be a large market, competitive franchise hungry for winning… ask the early 80s Reinsdorf, not the ownership now

The Sox trading Jake Burger was a very bad move. He is a strong hitter (2nd on the team in home runs) and competent on defense. And very popular with Sox fans. So of course he had to go.
In exchange they get a “prospect” that is reportedly not setting the world on fire in AA ball.
Can’t these guys do nothin’ right??

Disagree. The team needs a reboot and Burger is not going to be around when (and if) the team ever gets competitive. He may hit some home runs, but he is batting .214. The Sox don’t need another all or nothing guy.
The LHP they acquired from Miami is going to fill a large void in the rotation. He is coming off of Tommy John surgery this year, which could explain his mediocre season, but look at his 2021 season where he was dominant before getting injured. All the scouts and analysts are saying this is a nice acquisition for the Sox.

Can’t say the White Sox haven’t spent enough to field a competitive team
Their payroll is 15th highest in MLB, right between LA Angels and Boston Red Sox

If the Sox were just five games above .500, they’d be in first place by three games. That is another element of their failure, that they can’t take advantage of a weak division.

I love Burger too but the move was fine. he’s not all that even if we love him, his family, and the lower price on the burgers with the homers.

Respectfully disagree. He proved to be a very versatile player providing solid infield defense. While his average was low his power numbers were not.
He was the only player traded that could have been under team control for a while, the others were pitchers on short contracts. Those made total sense even if Giolito was someone they could resign he was 32. His health and production moving forward were sure to diminish.
This is as disappointed in the sox as I have ver been.

And with proper coaching, appeared to have the raw skills to improve his techniques. I’ve been following this guy since the minor leagues and am hugely disappointed.

He’s a one dimensional player. We have to stop accepting mediocrity. 25 home runs looks nice but he provided no speed. His “versatility” has been out of necessity, not because he should be playing anywhere other than third base.

“What’s up with y’all”
Query: I was brought up around peole who used “y’all” in conversation. When I went out into the wider world, I was told not to use it. So I stopped.
Now I hear people not from geographic or ethnic communities where “y’all” has historically been used now commonly use it. Has the world done a 180 on this?
If this has the effect of driving up the price of Ford F-150’s I’m gonne be mad.

I looked it up and Burger has a 1 year contract. I was also a big fan, perhaps they can re-sign him next year.
That being said, with as disappointing as last year and this year are, I don’t see much hope until they get rid of Williams and Hahn and Reinsdorf will keep them just to show us how smart her is. Reinsdorf is the problem.

Easy scapegoat. Everyone loves to bash the guy for the Sox and the Bulls. At the end of the day, however, its the players that didn’t live up to their potential. A lot of the guys on this team were hugely hyped prospects, but when you watch the time, all you see is a lack of energy, interest and effort.
Anderson, Jimenez, Moncada, Vaughn, Grandal - all underperforming and the biggest reason why the team stinks. The only player that has held his own is Luis Robert.
Then you have a bunch of mediocrity around them. Benintendi, Zavala, Andrus - don’t provide much in the way of offense.
You need a good combination of stars and role players to make a contending team. This team is lacking in both categories.

What will compel this ownership?

I disagree. The product I see on the field is that of a lazy, lackadaisical, unmotivated team that does not seem to care about winning. I suppose a little bit of that falls on management, but as professionals, they should be self motivated. Is it Reinsdorf’s fault that Tim Anderson has one stinkin home run and Moncada has 3? That the team batting average is .237? I would say that they are talented players, but are not good players.

Probably why we couldn’t unload him at the trade deadline. Nevertheless, he is a professional and should compete like one.
