  1. I think they’ll side with the state and give 30-60 days to begin implementation.

  2. Glasgow is trying to put out some fluffy press releases about all the other ‘work’ he is doing. Not a single mention of the SAFE-T act. The local ‘news’paper happily obliges and prints said press release without question.

My guess is he already has been told the outcome, and is trying to make the hit to his reputation a little lighter.

  3. Upheld with implementation Jan 1st. There will need to be work in veto, to fund it.

  4. Fixer - the mandate of the court does not issue for 35 days after a decision. So, if the SC sides with the State, the law will not take effect until then. The losing side can file a petition for rehearing which would stay the mandate. On the flip side, the winning party could ask for the mandate to be issued quicker.

  5. Well the first ‘new’ thing post covid on my walk from the train station (Union) to my office has opened up. A Circle K where a Starbucks used to be.

  6. Law was upheld 5-2 by party.

  8. The legacy of the Genius… that *is* Jim Nowlan…

… if your take, either way you choose it… is a 5-2 decision

  9. I know this question applies to the former president but I’m trying to find the answer more broadly (and just keep running into options and bias, instead of facts). But aren’t there laws in Illinois (and I assume many other states) to keep certain people off the ballots?

  10. @ Lurker -

A state cannot bar a specific individual from running for office. It can bar a class of people (for example, convicted felons) from holding office.

But a state has no authority to bar someone from running for, or holding, federal office. Qualifications for offices such as President, U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, are set by the U.S. constitution and states cannot add additional qualifications.
