Pritzker leading trade mission to UK

Posted in:

* Press release…

Governor Pritzker along with leaders in business and education from around the state will embark on a trade mission to the United Kingdom on July 16. The Governor will kick off the international trip by attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 13-16 to discuss Illinois’ commitment to electric vehicle manufacturing with automobile, energy, and supply chain industry leaders.

Following the Goodwood Festival of Speed, a delegation of business and education leaders will meet with their counterparts in London to discuss strengthening economic cooperation between the State of Illinois and the United Kingdom. Programming throughout the mission will focus on manufacturing, clean energy and technology, quantum, higher education collaboration, and other key industries.

“When I first ran for Governor, I promised to be our state’s best Chief Marketing Officer—letting the world know that Illinois is the best place to live, work, and do business,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “Over the next several days, I couldn’t be more excited to meet with UK and international leaders—sharing the many virtues of our state, from our talented workforce and world-class manufacturing industry to our booming electric vehicle ecosystem and ambitious clean energy goals.”

“The State of Illinois and the United Kingdom have a longstanding economic relationship and as Illinois’ economic development agency, we look forward to building upon this enduring partnership,” said DCEO Director Kristin Richards. “With $5 billion in bilateral trade in 2022, this trip will help us further strengthen our ties and give us the opportunity to meet with some of the most talented leaders across industries in the UK while forging connections on business opportunities that will benefit Illinoisans and people from Britain alike.”

“The UK is one of the top foreign investors in Illinois, so this trip is about building on that strength to encourage more British companies to be in Illinois,” said Intersect Illinois CEO Dan Seals. “We’re making the case for our skilled workforce, our central location, our quality of life, and our international outlook.”

Leaders joining the trade mission include:

Illinois and the United Kingdom have a long history of shared economic cooperation.

Exports are a Vital Part of Illinois’ Economy

Total Trade between Illinois and United Kingdom in 2022

…Adding… According to the governor’s office, staff travel is covered by the governor’s office and DCEO is covering its staff travel. The governor is paying for his own travel and for staff travel to Goodwood and lodging at Goodwood. Everyone else is paying for their own stuff. DCEO and Intersect are sharing some of the costs associated with programming

  1. I’m surprised Welch is the only legislator who’s joining.

  2. That’s a whole lot of people.
No one from the Farm Bureau or Ag industry that’s not a commodities broker?
Would seem when talking trade, agriculture would be a key player in those conversations?
Would seem when talking clean energy, farmers talking about sustainable land uses, improvements in technology on environmentally stable farming would be a big opportunity?
Disappointing considering you have everyone else and the kitchen sink going, what’s two or three more people?

  3. I didn’t see any one from agriculture.

  4. Was an offer extended to any other legislative leader besides the Speaker?

  5. ===No one from the Farm Bureau or Ag industry===

It jumps out at you like “Wow”

===commitment to electric vehicle manufacturing with automobile, energy, and supply chain industry leaders.===

How Ag isn’t seen in this scope is mind boggling as electric farm equipment and machinery is a market that is evolving, as an example.

  6. I always thought this would be JB’s strength. I’m surprised at how big the group is. I’m surprised no one from 1871, MATTER, mHUB or the Arc Innovation Center is going. I’m glad the hospitality industry is included which proved its value in the latest hotel occupancy numbers report.

  7. “Another example of how JB cares more about his hedge fund cronies in Chicago. Giving his ultra-rich friends opportunities for international alliances. At the same time thumbing his nose to downstate Illinois and the hard working farming communities that cover 27 million acres or about 75% of Illinois total land mass.”

Every GOP legislator outside the collars should repeat this phrase for the next three weeks. Then repeat it again at Ag Day at the State Fair and GOP day, then again in Duquoin and every other county fair where they are given a microphone.

If GOP legislators don’t already have those voters, they’re in bad shape.

Might as well say “Pritzker only carried 8 counties”

  9. “and every other county fair”

The Union County fair wouldn’t exist without state funding. In essence, a very small state fair.

So, biting the hand and all that.

  10. with the ComEd 4 convictions still fresh, Gil Quiniones is an interesting pick. Let’s hope he learned from the mistakes of the past. He is on the record about cleaning things up.

“We have seen the headlines about the federal criminal trial of a former ComEd CEO and others. The conduct at the center of the trial is not a proud chapter in our company’s history, but it is one that we own. We’ve enacted strong new ethics policies, enhanced oversight”

  11. @OW The manufactured anger needs to be pushed. Going into an election year the GOP needs to make sure they’re base is fully aligned so they can stop their own bleeding and not lose anymore seats. They really don’t have much else.

@Elvis-I don’t think it matters that State pays for Union County Fair. Not including Ag or the Farm Bureau is saying we’ll fund your Fair and let you play with your corn and pigs but we’ll handle all the big stuff like rules, trade, intelligence, innovation etc.

    Comment by Frida's boss Tuesday, Jul 11, 23 @ 4:23 pm

  12. Frida’s Boss-

If you don’t think state funding matters, you don’t understand why you don’t “take the mike” at county fairs.

  13. ===The manufactured anger needs to be pushed. Going into an election year the GOP needs to make sure they’re base is fully aligned so they can stop their own bleeding===

    Sure.

Ok, you still are losing in the largest 8 counties and DuPage, as an example, is a lost cause.

You get votes where voters are, there aren’t enough voters or districts that make your strategy work.

Republicans want to ban abortions, want no limits on 2A rights, and cheer the striking down of affirmative actions.

    - John Lopez - said it best, no?

===It’s the end of June, and last year and this year, been memorable thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court:

    Roe v Wade = GONE
    Affirmative Action = GONE
    Student Loan Forgiveness = GONE
    Constitutional Carry = SECURED
    Business Religious Freedom = SECURED

Yes, it’s been a great 2 years for freedom and right to life of the unborn.===

How many competitive seats will a GOPer win with that platform.

And you’re worried about pushing this Ag thing downstate?

    Yikes.

  14. Lots of Springfield politicos and lobsters. The few businesses here in this group seem to be regulated. Are there any real purely private businesses in this mix? It’s not the greatest look for the global stage. Definitely not shaking anyone’s impressions about Illinois.
