  1. Where is the budget? So much for Friday

    Comment by Truthiness Thursday, May 18, 23 @ 7:58 am

  2. Agree with Truthiness, where is the budget? We need to know what potential tax changes are coming, so we can all act shocked and dismayed.

  3. We should start a pool on the actual adjournment date. My money’s on Wednesday 24th.

  4. Star Wars-lookin’ sunrises and sunsets, that’s what

  5. @The Truth
    I thought the Sun looked odd last evening. Then I learned wildfires in western Canada were causing it.

  6. That feels like a season ending loss for the Cubs.

    Comment by DS Thursday, May 18, 23 @ 9:22 am

  7. Sam Zell has passed. He owned a few things, didn’t he?

    Comment by Terry Salad Thursday, May 18, 23 @ 9:50 am

  8. One of the last things I’m ever going to remember about Sam Zell is that he said work from home is a bunch of BS. I understand not all jobs can be remote, but billionaires like him and Elon ripping on work from home shows how out of touch they are with today’s workers. RIP dude.

    Comment by Baloneymous Thursday, May 18, 23 @ 10:08 am

  9. It should be noted that Zell’s disdain for workers started long before work from home was a thing.

    NY Times 12/08/08: Workers Pay for Debacle at Tribune

    “Mr. Zell financed much of his deal’s $13 billion of debt by borrowing against part of the future of his employees’ pension plan and taking a huge tax advantage. Tribune employees ended up with equity, and now they will probably be left with very little.”

  10. The Sox are getting my hopes up, including because their homer celebration is LOL. Burger’s triple run was a beautiful and OMG thing.

  11. =Star Wars-lookin’ sunrises and sunsets, that’s what=

    The other night at baseball practice, the kids were all debating whether it was the sun or the moon, lol

  12. Zell was a unique larger than life character; he was a genius real estate developer and entrepreneur. He also was a very community-minded donor – he gave 10’s of millions to the Chicago Symphony, the University of Michigan, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. His Zell Family annually funds grants worth between 30-50 million. RIP Sam

  13. ===He also was a very community-minded donor===

    Not to speak ill of the dead, one could argue the overall damage to a city, communities and institutions are not ignited by writing checks to seem civil minded.

    Rauner and Griffin too seem to think checks override damages.

    My sympathies to the Zell family.

  14. =My money’s on Wednesday 24th.=

    Pritzker was supposed to be at DGA on Monday and Tuesday in Ann Arbor but is not longer on the attending governors list. 24th might be right

  15. == He also was a very community-minded donor – he gave 10’s of millions to the Chicago Symphony, the University of Michigan, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. ==

    There is nothing inherently wrong or negative about choosing to give money to large arts institutions or to already well endowed educational institutions. But I don’t consider it the same or as “worthy” as addressing actual life and death issues that people are facing.

  16. I’ve no doubt there are many grave dancers…today.

  17. I was in a downstate bar yesterday afternoon, and heard the bar denizens discussing the local schools having litter boxes for the kids identifying as furries.
    I kid you not, they still believe this stuff.

  18. Rich,

    Any plans on shifting away from twitter now that Elon’s going whole hog on white supremacy and conspiracy theories? I deleted my account when he took over, but from what I can tell the platform is 100x worse than it was a few months ago.

    How do we move past Twitter if pols and journalists all maintain their accounts? As someone who does a lot of their business on twitter, I was hoping you could shed some light on your thoughts around this topic.

    Thanks
