  2. Looks a great weather weekend in central Illinois. We just need the Senate to gavel out this morning then we can all start our weekend.

Although I hope we get some rain this weekend, we need it.

What’s the word on if they return on Monday or Tuesday?

Right up there with Halloween and St. Patricks Day.

Cinco de Mayo celebrations will have a whole new meaning at the downtown Springfield watering holes today, with Mayoral inaguration festivities today (some of which could extend unofficially into tonight and the weekend). Also Kentucky Derby day tomorrow.

  6. This Cubs fan is very excited that Mash Mervis has been called up. I don’t expect miracles, but won’t complain if he’s amazing from jump. Good to have Amaya up too, even if it’s at the expense of Gomes’ noggin.

  7. Very lovely morning, and finally, it looks like spring has arrived. Good news also on the jobs report, as some may be expecting/predicting a recession that is not happening thus far.

  8. “Perhaps the least controversial was HB1591, which deletes some anti-miscegenation laws still on the books since 1915. Even so, 9 Republicans voted against the bill.”

Anyone have an explanation of these 9 no votes?

Comment by Ugh Friday, May 5, 23 @ 10:05 am

  9. @ Ugh -

It’s all about Obergefell. Prior to HB1591, couples could not marry in Illinois if that marriage would be illegal in their state of residence. HB 1591 repeals those provisions of the Illinois Marriage and Marriage Dissolution Act.

So if Obergefell is overturned, out-of-state couples can now come to Illinois to be married.

There is no legitimate reason for it.

  11. There’s an explanation for the nine ‘no’ votes, but I’d be Banhammered for eternity if I used that language to describe the nine voters who simply failed so badly.
