  1. =found that Illinois’ population actually grew by about 250,000 people, an almost 500,000-person shift from that December 2020 estimate.=

    Yikes.
    And imagine what the count would have been if the previous administration had not scared the **** out of all the immigrants.

  2. Interesting story about McDonalds.

    I’ve never rooted for anyone to lose their jobs, but if the majority of their restaurants are managed like the one in Anna, I’m not surprised.

  3. ===Vallas’ with 49.6% of the potential vote and Johnson with 45.4%.===

    Vallas inches closer to that “50% in polling” number, and if turnout of “over 50” continues to dominate, and as Frank Calabrese highlighted in Black Wards their support for Lightfoot also finding Vallas, tough way to find a path for Johnson.

    It should be noted, however, that those who were adamant in saying Proft, Ives, Bailey and the GOP are not what “Illinois wants” now share their own problems as they seemingly agree with those folks on Vallas.

    Here I thought the GOP had a Proft, Ives, and Trump problem.

    *IF* the worst elements of politics are celebrating with you, and a Vallas win, please don’t take it upon yourselves mocking or laughing at the Eastern Bloc or other elements of the GOP.

    Tomorrow will be incredibly interesting, this poll adds to the intrigue

  4. Re: Crain’s Report on McDonald’s

    Scary times. Ever since COVID hit, the two stores in Macomb have struggled to keep pace with customer demand.

    A long time ago, I was an assistant manager at a burger joint (Wendy’s), and I remember trying to always manage staffing decisions so as to not have more people that needed at any given half hour. We used the previous year’s sales data for that date.

    In the end, we always had multiple moments when there were not enough workers. I can only imagine that the COVID epidemic really made it hard to predict, and it seems anecdotally, that the stores I am familiar with have always erred on the side of not enough employees, routinely.

    Lots of other effects for sure, but when McDonald’s is considering layoffs, the economy nationwide must be a lot worse than it appears here in West Central Illinois.

  5. =Lots of other effects for sure,=

    Their previous CEO (brought in from London IIRC) has done damage to the golden arches that will be felt for years to come. The talent drain was immense, and the standards have dropped dramatically.

  6. Saw some cell phone cam video of the roof collapse at the Apollo Theater. Just walking around filming people trying to lift debris off of people. Not helping one bit. What a jack—.

  7. Good on the Sox getting a split in a difficult place against the World Series champs. It’s tough out there, you know? (h/t late, great Rodney Dangerfield)
