  1. Looking at what must have been a thousand or more geese flying overhead on my way to work this morning made me appreciate prairie life. I am grateful I came to Illinois all those years ago.

  2. Wondering if Vallas will make it to the runoff like a ball carrier walking into the end zone after leaving defenders far behind. The drama today may be who wins the second runoff spot.

  3. On my mind? How many Chicago races will be to close to call before at least Friday. And what the excruciating margin between 2nd and 3rd in the mayoral race will be. Should be fun!

  4. Chicago desperately needs ranked choice voting. Top two run off is pretty terrible when the top two may have small niche voter groups locked up, and the remaining 50% are all split between 4+ other candidates.

Not just for mayor either. This is happening in a few ward races too.

  5. = Chicago desperately needs ranked choice voting. =

Eric Zorn’s Substack linked to an interesting experiment that allows you to compare outcomes of different forms of voting, not just “top two” and ranked choice, but a couple of others: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSemG3kKOYlILtKkcVwZxwpmnPIb0v56gE58Wj4ZJtpbYbN5Fw/viewform

My ward might take a while, too. We have eleven candidates for alderman/woman/person.

  6. The sun is shining here in beautiful DuPage County today, temps expected to reach about 50 degrees. March is expected to come in like a lamb tomorrow with a temp of about 60.

So all is good. Looking forward to watching the election returns this evening. Should be fun.

  7. Love him or despise him, Paul Vallas is going to become the next mayor of Chicago. He has very strong support in wards that always vote (19,41,42 for example) and which always have sky high turnout. This becomes his base then as he looks for votes along the lakefront. The #’s for him in these progressive areas will surprise many people.

  8. How long will Patrick Kane skate in the practice zone? it’s sad.

  9. ==Love him or despise him==

Even his supporters don’t seem to love him.

  10. Will there be a CAT strike tomorrow?

A lot of Central Illinois folks facing uncertainty right now.

  11. I’m currently in line to vote and the woman in front of me had requested a mail ballot that she didn’t return. So she has to fill out a provisional. I’ve been second in line for about 10 minutes now. Judges are completely lost. They have no idea what to do. Thumbing through all kinds of different manuals

  12. Be interesting to see what happens in the Chicago election. I’m in the Warrenville area and saw a bunch of last minute attack ads on TV last night.

We had to deal with a number of those last election. Not that hard, but a bunch of paper.

Once they saw what needed to be filled out and shown, several of our voters decided it was easier to go home and get their absentee ballot to turn in.

  14. Cue the Daily Mail coming up with a City Goes From Black Mayor to Right Wing, or Make Chicago Great Again. they always channel what the thinking is of the Trump side of the equation. Note to the increasing Socialist caucus of that City Council, put up ordinances that right wingers can cast a vote on which will show their true colors and actually move the electoral needle next time, like reproductive choices, LGBTQ, not affordable housing matters or defund the police. you really want to change Chicago, you gotta be smarter.

  15. ===We had to deal with a number of those last election. Not that hard, but a bunch of paper===

I once got into an argument with a Republican judge because we had to fill out the paperwork for provisional ballot for this same scenario. It basically boiled down to he was too lazy to help me do the paperwork. Fighting against Republican disenfranchisement since 2014.
