* Heh…

But I gotta have a talk with my youngest brother for not teaching my niece how to play Rummy or Hearts. Heathen! This must be rectified

120 to -5 on her first ever game, but we are not counting that

  1. I grew up watching my grandparents play bridge and poker. My grandmother taught me to shuffle cards when my hands were big enough to hold the cards. Played hearts and spades all through high school.

    Wonderful way to pass time.

  3. Good stuff right there.

    Yep, Spades, Hearts, necessities.

Love me some Euchre (if you have the four players, obviously) great “time movers”

  4. Happy to see the student athletes from two Illinois schools competing for the season basketball Championship in the Missouri Valley.
Sunday’s game between Bradley and SIU was a nail biter decided in the last seconds. The teams were evenly matched with the score being within a basket or two the whole game.
Was happy to see the Braves pull the game out, but gotta say seeing former SIU team members and their coach at halftime was a real highlight and brought back some great memories of the SIU basketball program.
That Isabel is a quick study- Congratulations to her on her victory.

  5. Euchre and Pitch were the gotos for my family if we had enough people. Gin Rummy and 2 handed Spades if it was just me and my dad.

I liked Rod a lot. There has got to be a better way to handle mental health crises.

  7. Down time on deployments were spent on Spades and Chess. Good games to play and keep the mind working.

  8. We saw an interesting American Experience show on PBS last night about Monopoly’s Secret History. Neither my spouse nor I ever played the game. How about you? Do you like the game?

Don’t forget war, slapjack, and poker. I’ve run into adults that don’t know a flush beats a straight.

  12. Speaking of games . . . No more softball in Grant Park: https://blockclubchicago.org/2023/02/20/softball-leagues-that-called-grant-park-home-for-decades-say-theyve-been-booted-due-to-nascar-deal-and-music-fests/

  13. Spent good part of my Freshman year in college playing hearts. Got to the point if I thought there even was just a slight chance to “shoot the moon ” I’d often go for it. Rest of college time spent in college radio station. If I ever meet up with Bill Clinton I will ask to play a game as I read he is a big Hearts player!!

  14. Grandma was a killer bridge player. After grandpa passed away at a young age, she hired out to help people reach their life master points.

As such, us kids grew up playing double-deck canasta and spades and hearts at her house.

Later on, at work, a group of us would play whist on our lunch hours.

  15. Any word on when the Governor is going to threaten to close DCFS if they don’t straighten up?

I’m excited to see the impact of this new approach to solving problems at the agencies he is responsible for.

  16. Paczki popping up on my Twitter feed, including that Mayor Lightfoot stopped into a shop on the far NW side to get some. Does she actually think there are votes for her out there? Or is the paczki that good at the shop?
