  1. DuPage County board may not have the ability to censure the sheriff. But they do have the power of the purse. They could pass an ordinance recinding the sheriff’s budget or portion there of.

  2. It appears the rules do not include not owing money.

  3. Man, that Proft guy… he seems to have this thingy where he loses money in a recorded way of filing that seems like… look, I’m spitballing here…. It seems like a phony grift.

I say often… the checks cash the same.

How can checks cash where there’s a negative balance, like lost monies?

Ponzi schemes seem to have balance sheet issues like this, but it might, again, just spitballing, it might just be a grift.

  4. I can only assume this means that it took Uihlein until mid October to figure that he was the sucker at Proft’s table.

  5. Man if that grifter DeVore made the $200 of each plaintiff he was asking for 866×200=$173,200 this sure makes working for a living feel like being a sucker. Esp as he’s likely to ride the coattails of the bigger orgs suits and claim “victory.”

  6. –It was unclear Tuesday if the board has the authority to censure a sheriff.–

The board does have the authority to pass a resolution stating a vote of no confidence.

Going forward from there, there are many individual agenda items that come up for a vote from time to time that pertain to county agreements with the sheriffs office. Financial and otherwise.

  7. ===this sure makes working for a living feel like being a sucker. Esp as he’s likely to ride the coattails of the bigger orgs suits and claim “victory.”===

You’re so on this… it’s about the dollars, not the law.

That kind of cash will pay for some more seriously sweet forearm tattoos…

  8. Following up on OW…. how does a campaign committee end up with a negative balance over a million dollars? Who gave them a line of credit?

More knowledgeable people please advise… thx

  9. Gosh, I can’t remember, but didn’t Proft get absolved from “losing” monies before?

Maybe the Google Key can find it.

  10. ==People Who Play by the Rules PAC==
The rules I follow say “When I run out of money, quit spending”

Comment by Bruce( no not him) Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 9:19 am

  11. I’d say I’m willing to take a deep dive into People Who Play by the Rules (ha!) but reading that they gave $250K to American Principles Project PAC and reading the name of Duncan Hunter just makes me sick. But the money should be analyzed for expenditures and why oh why so fiscally irresponsible.

Comment by Amalia Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 9:24 am

  12. “Members of the judicial and public safety committee expressed outrage”

Dupage Sheriff James Mendrick is not popular with dem controled County Board. He was however elected countywide. Dems have only themselves to blame as the sheriff ran unopposed in November for a second term.

Comment by Donnie Elgin Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 9:28 am

  13. Ope. I think I found it. That Google Key finds things.

That Proft. Losin’ races. Losin’ money…

  14. ==The rules I follow say “When I run out of money, quit spending”==

I also follow a rule that says “Even if you have the money, you don’t have to spend it all.”

  15. So Starfish Consulting was involuntarily dissolved in October 2022 and afterwards received at least $300,000 in consulting fees. He did file in Florida on 10/31, but still had business in between.

  16. Chuy Garcia’s mention of free City College tuition indicates that his team failed to research this topic. In fact, the CHA offers a Partners in Education program for residents of CHA housing and individuals who hold vouchers. The residents attend City College at no cost.

Also, the Star Scholarship which began in 2015 offers a free college education to CPS students with a B average in high school.

Since City Colleges is an open enrollment institution, many students place in Developmental Education or pre-credit class work as their reading and math scores do not qualify them for college level work.

To offer “free college” when students are not prepared for college level work is an empty promise.

    Comment by Rudy’s teeth Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 12:19 pm

  17. Rudy’s teeth,

There are a lot more students who could benefit from jr college than CHA residents or people who went to CPS. And one of the purposes of Jr College is to offer remedial education. Other purposes include job vocational training, something city colleges (and Jr college across the state) should really lean into and reach out to business groups to see about offering apprenticeships.

Germany (and the Netherlands and probably other nations in the EU) has an education system that has an Ausbildung system where the student goes to school 2 days a week (to say learn about handling dangerous chemicals or kitchen safety/cross contam) and then 3 days a week where they do on the job work. At the end of a 2 year period (or 3 depending) they are actually qualified to work in the job and jobs requiring an Ausbildung tend to be higher paid.
