What will he do if the SWAT Team really does show up?

Posted in:

* People and their threats. Sheesh…

Former Republican gubernatorial candidate all but threatens to shoot it out with law enforcement https://t.co/INUDjHfDs6

…Adding… As mentioned in comments, it’ll still be lawful to possess those weapons on his private property, and at gun ranges and other places. So, he’s stoking angry violence for no good reason, which is basically his schtick. Maybe we should all just move on and celebrate. /s

  1. That didn’t take long for police officers to go from patriots to agents of the state.

Comment by twowaystreet Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:26 am

  2. Bailey is a lot like Trump. Everytime he opens his trap he does the opposite of helping a cause.

Got to give JB credit, he picked the biggest Dipspit for a foil.

Comment by Mason born Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:27 am

  3. Bailey is a pathetic, small man, now with no office.

The reason he lost boils down to his way of life is dying and he hasn’t figured it out yet… while taking farm subsidies.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:31 am

  4. -What will he do if the SWAT Team really does show up?-

Throw his hands in the air, and wave ‘em like he just don’t care.

  5. ===What will he do if the SWAT Team really does show up?===

    Run for Congress, of course.

Comment by Three Dimensional Checkers Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:32 am

  6. What will he do if SWAT shows up? Probably wet himself and beg for mercy.

Comment by Give Me A Break Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:32 am

  7. ==That didn’t take long for police officers to go from patriots to agents of the state.==
In the eyes of Bailey and his fellow travelers, police are only legitimate if they are mistreating Black people.

Comment by Nuke The Whales Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:34 am

  8. “Guns? What Guns? I lost them all in a tragic boating accident.”

Comment by Bruce( no not him) Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:36 am

  9. Bailey should be fine so long as he keeps his guns on his property. And it’s not like Darren Bailey is going anywhere.

Comment by Michelle Flaherty Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:37 am

  10. If it was “God’s will” that made you run for governor, and subsequently lose, would it be “God’s will” that you die on your porch for the sake of guns? Take all the time you need, DB.

Comment by oifredleg Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:38 am

  11. With respect to our genial host and fellow commenters, what SWAT team? Doesn’t he lives in a county that has declared itself a 2nd Amendment sanctuary county? How quickly will county/local police enforce a law that will be challenged in court (and quite likely receive an injunction against the enforcement thereof) before the ink is dry on the Governor’s signature. Any punitive actions against counties/cities would take a while to enact and would take a while to go through the inevitable court challenges.

Comment by Former ILSIP Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:39 am

  12. Darren Bailey’s remarks “Let’s move on” after the tragedy in Highland Park indicate that he is a clueless buffoon.

Fold the tent, Darren. The circus has left town.

    Comment by Rudy’s teeth Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:43 am

  13. Bailey should be fine - Clay county is one of the 67 declared 2A sanctuary counties. He just needs to avoid the ISP.

Comment by Donnie Elgin Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:46 am

  14. -The reason he lost boils down to his way of life is dying-

In Illinois you are probably correct. Florida and Texas probably not.

Comment by Steve Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:48 am

  15. Promises, promises

Comment by ChuckIL Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:49 am

  16. -declared 2A sanctuary counties-

Sanctuaries for guns. Yet they freak out when other places declare themselves sanctuaries for human beings.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:50 am

  17. ===Florida and Texas probably not.===

In Florida and Texas, it’s not about the rural, it’s about the racist thinking and conspiracy theory believing more than anything.

How that’s great is a pathetic way to think.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:53 am

  18. == Throw his hands in the air, and wave ‘em like he just don’t care.==.

His roof is on fire…. We don’t need no water

Comment by low level Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:54 am

  19. Story headline is enticing. People are passionate about their gun ownership. I expected a verbal brawl as soon as I read it.

Comment by Niceguy Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:56 am

  20. Well he certainly demonstrates the temperament to be Governor. He’s just afraid he won’t be able to shoot the budget anymore, as we all know that effects real world change.

Comment by Big Dipper Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:57 am

  21. “Guns? What Guns? I lost them all in a tragic boating accident.”

Under this new law and past laws, no entity in the state of Illinois has any clue if you own any firearms. They only know if you have a FOID or CCL.

Comment by Donnie Elgin Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:57 am

  22. == In the eyes of Bailey and his fellow travelers, police are only legitimate if they are mistreating Black people. ==

Bailey is a complete goofball, but you’re taking it too far with this comment.

Comment by Occasional Quipper Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 9:59 am

  23. ===He just needs to avoid the ISP.===

How can one be about “law and order” and be driven to avoid the police?

Sad and pathetic people think this way.

We truly-truly need to stop this too.

    ===Got to give JB credit===

It was 56% of the voting GOP that selected Bailey.

Physicians heal themselves… Bailey is exactly who the GOP is.

If Pritzker is so powerful to these lemmings, then no matter who these folks pick… JB woulda just waved a wand and the lemmings would follow.

    Please… stop this… “Well, JB…”

    No. Stop. It’s the party.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 10:01 am

Pretty sure Bailey owns some guns

Comment by Niceguy Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 10:03 am

  26. Honest question, how is this not something that law enforcement needs to follow up on? It is basically a threat against any legislator supporting the assault weapon ban* while also just plain disgusting.

Comment by JustAThought Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 10:06 am

  27. Thinkin’ Beetle just threw the red flag on himself. Best to just scoop him and toss him in a padded room. Under the new rules that can last a year.

Comment by Annonin' Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 10:10 am

  28. Well, if “they” take his guns away, he’s still got his flamethrower.

Comment by Streator Curmudgeon Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 10:12 am

  29. Since it is legal for him to possess his guns on his own front porch, I guess Bailey is just fleeing to his safe space.

Comment by Jibba Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 10:12 am

  30. Bailey, come on man. No need for the rhetoric, just sit back and watch the Courts handle the issue.

Comment by FormerParatrooper Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 10:13 am

  31. How soon can we just ignore him and let his irrelevance prevail? I’d vote for sooner rather than later.

Comment by Guy Probably Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 10:14 am

  32. ===you’re taking it too far===

Considering the way over the top rhetoric from some of the pro-gunners, that’s kinda mild.

Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 10:14 am

  33. Just wondering how he got Darrin, Rip, and Charlton Heston all mixed up in this

  34. Two words: Zero-based budgeting.

Comment by ZC Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 10:20 am

  35. Maybe someone can answer this question I have.

A lot of the pro-assault weapon guys talk about they need them to defend themselves against the gov.

I’m no expert but it would seem to me if the gov comes after them, the gov won’t send on person, they will send multi people who will vaporize these cowboys as soon as they feel threatened.

Do these guys think they are going take on the world with their gun and win?

Comment by Give Me A Break Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 10:26 am

  36. ===Sanctuaries for guns. Yet they freak out when other places declare themselves sanctuaries for human beings.===

And to bring it full circle, my guess is that they will throw the book at any “illegals” or other undesirables they find. Angry white men will be protected from FOID violations and assault weapon possession, but others? Nah.

  38. ==Do these guys think they are going take on the world with their gun and win? ==

Some do. David Koresh, Randy Weaver, LeRoy Schweitzer… the list goes on. Usually ends up sorta like last night’s TCU-Georgia game.

Comment by Dysfunction Junction Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 10:40 am

  39. Bailey’s threat against law enforcement suggests he sees himself as a modern Leonidas. Chunkules probably has some severe cognitive dissonance when acknowledging the relationships Spartans like Leonidas had with other men. If he’s going to use rhetoric similar to “Molon Labe” we should ask him about it.

And potentially ask him if he knows how Spartans treated law breakers, especially those involved in insurrections.

Comment by Candy Dogood Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 10:46 am

  40. ==…they will send multi people who will vaporize these cowboys as soon as they feel threatened.

Do these guys think they are going take on the world with their gun and win?==

And that’s not even getting into the fact that the feds have predator drones. I really don’t understand the “defense against a tyrannical government” argument. At no point in human history has the there been a greater imbalance of firepower in favor of the government. Yet DB and the rest of the molon labe folks continue to delude themselves into thinking that their AR is the only thing keeping the regulars out of their homes.

    Comment by Anon234 Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 10:46 am

  41. Darren Bailey continues to cosplay as a small town farmer. How many millions in PPP did his corporate farm get?

Also the twitter comments on that thread are absolutely eviscerating. I haven’t seen a Republican get this publicly shamed since… How long ago was the McCarthy vote?

Comment by Commissar Gritty Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 10:48 am

  42. >> Do these guys think they are going take on the world with their gun and win?

Stewart Rhodes of the Oath Keepers apparently really hoped that Trump would invoke an old law called the Insurrection Act on 1/6 and (in Rhodes’ mind) this would have given legal cover for the Oath Keepers to take to the DC streets with their guns to fight the antifa hordes.

Many of them don’t really think they can take on the military, in other words. But some of these groups consider themselves “well regulated militias” and are hoping for the right president, someday, who will in effect deputize them and help them “restore democracy.”

Comment by ChicagoVinny Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 11:20 am

  47. Darren, it appears that your Christianity is based on what you think Christianity should be…not what the Bible says it should be.

  48. Lies. Stupid. Lies.

Comment by Amalia Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 11:34 am

  49. Dump on Bailey all you want, but how will major media report if ISP manage to kill someone unintentionally in enforcing this new law? Will the unarmed woman shot through the head holding a baby be written off as “deserving it”? Or will the advocates of “tough gun laws” step up and admit some responsibility? Will the media even ask?

Comment by Gene Williger Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 11:39 am

  50. === Will the unarmed woman shot through the head holding a baby be written off as “deserving it”? ===

You have quite a vivid imagination. And that’s not a compliment.

  52. =What will he do if SWAT shows up? Probably wet himself and beg for mercy.=

    yep.

Bailey is a laugh riot. Just like all the big talking tough guys trying to butch up until someone actually knocks on their door.

  54. ==Bailey is a complete goofball, but you’re taking it too far with this comment.==
So this was a bit bombastic, BUT I largely stand by it. Can you really tell me they would shoulder shrug a sentiment to ignore the law and dare the police to seize their firearms in a confrontational manner if it came from a Black athlete? When Philando Castile, a gun owner who was LEGALLY carrying a firearm was killed for possession of that firearm, the NRA was silent.

Comment by Nuke The Whales Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 12:09 pm

  55. I’m sorry if I am repetitive but o must recall a conversation I had with someone that lives by Bailey and has known him many years.
Me: he comes across as unintelligent
Other: he is less intelligent than he comes across

Comment by Lurker Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 12:23 pm

  56. OW:
Guys like Bailey are all for “law and order” as long as it doesn’t inconvenience them.

Comment by btowntruth from forgottonia Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 12:28 pm

  57. “Dump on Bailey all you want”.

Bailey is trying to dump on the rule of law…so yeah…no one is more deserving of honest criticism than “gunslinger” Darren Bailey.

Friend, after the parade in Highland Park, Bailey wanted to “move on”.

Did you want to move on too?

So actually, you don’t care who gets hurt, do you?

So please spare all the thoughts of anyone hurt with your phony concern.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 12:57 pm

Sorry, my comment was a poor attempt at an indirect compliment to you for remembering the perfect quote to describe Bailey.

  60. =Will the unarmed woman shot through the head holding a baby be written off as “deserving it”?=

    Spare us your “Ruby Ridge”fantasies.

In the scenario you alluded to, her husband and son and a friend were armed and engaged in a shootout with law enforcement.

Will your unarmed mother be doing the same thing on your fantasy?

Comment by JS Mill Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 1:16 pm

  61. A lot of these movie watchers seem to enjoy the possibility of armed combat…right up until they see the actual bloody fragmented effects of gunplay…punks all.

Comment by Dotnonymous Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 1:25 pm

  62. The thing is, JB is going to be spending millions on lawsuits related to this law which relies on voluntary compliance.

Reminds me of when Blagojevich tried and failed to ban violent video games, costing the state millions.

Instead that wasted lawsuit money should be spent in mental health services which is what the Highland Park shooter needed.

    Comment by A Jack Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 1:31 pm

  63. @thechampaignlife 1:09

No worries and thanks for the compliment

Comment by Flapdoodle Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 1:32 pm

  64. Wonder if Bailey is going to superimpose his head on the lean looking cowboy on the porch and sell it as an NFT like Trump did.

Comment by West Side the Best Side Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 1:37 pm

  65. Bailey goes from law maker to law breaker…with the quickness.

Comment by Anonymous Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 1:50 pm

  66. Must be something in the water down that way. Rep. Wilhour just said on the House floor “we won’t comply with this law”.

The Illinois GOP has a better chance on winning the lottery than they do being taken seriously. A collection of angry white people who only want to comply with laws they like.

Comment by Give Me A Break Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 2:37 pm

  67. Preach @Nuke The Whales

Comment by Commissar Gritty Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 3:46 pm

  68. It’s getting really, really tiresome listening to elected officials announcing g that they will not obey the duly enacted laws they took oaths of office to uphold. Were they lying when taking those oaths? Deliberately deceiving the people they were elected to serve? Are they putting themselves above the law now by declaring their entitlement to pick and choose which laws they find it convenient to obey? Are they too cowardly to resign their offices because no longer able to fulfill the terms of their oaths, as honorable people would do? Or are they just petulant blatherskites playing the role of victim?

Please tell us which of the above it is, Representatives Wilhour and Bailey? We’d like to know what you think you’re accomplishing.

Comment by Flapdoodle Tuesday, Jan 10, 23 @ 3:52 pm
