Eastern Bloc gonna Eastern Bloc

Posted in:

* From an interview of Rep. Chris Miller (R-No Relation)

Malkin: At the state level, where you’re at, some prominent Republicans, such as Jim Durkin and Tim Butler are stepping down. What do you think that means for the future of the state Republican Party?

Miller: Well, I think that one of the things is that conservative ideals are gaining traction, and we have a beachhead, established in Illinois with the Illinois Freedom Caucus where, you know…we’re emphasizing…our worldview, as well as the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and the Republican Party platform. And I know that we’re committed to those three ideals. It’s going to be our true north to guide that…some see their power structure falling apart, then rather than staying and trying to fix things, they’re going to move on and do something else.

Malkin: Do you think that creates some more space or opportunity for the Illinois Freedom Caucus?

Miller: Oh, I think so. I think that, you know, let’s face it, the ideals that we’re promoting with individual liberty, with limited government, with the rule of law, with fair markets, with fiscal responsibility, the sanctity of life and peace through strength. Those are ideals that make America America. And I think one of the things that we haven’t done very well is we haven’t communicated those ideals. Because let’s face it, most of the people that live here in the state of Illinois, those are ideals that they live by, as they raise their families and they work hard and those are the ideals that motivate us to do the right thing, the right way all the time.

And then he went on to talk about how January 6 was just a peaceful gathering of mostly old folks and not an all an insurrection.

If you call being an echo chamber that can’t get 60/30 and can’t win statewide elections…

    What a pathetic little man.

Notice no talk about abortion or what that means in building a bigger tent, but building a beachhead of conservatives… to be irrelevant.

    Sad

  4. He’s right. How can a sane individual argue with his logic?? I mean that is EXACTLY what Darren Bailey and Tom DeVore ran on.. and look at last Tuesday’s vote counts… oh wait.. never mind.

  5. And… lastly to my thought… alone…

The racist thinkers, conspiracy theorists… and the insurrection apologists…

Keep in mind who Miller is (they are no relation to Rich) and what Miller and his wife stand for… insurrection apologists who were “in town”…

Maybe Miller is telling his ilk…

    Stand Back and Stand By

    Sure sounds like it.

The thing is, politics isn’t church. Your goal should never be, “let us get rid of those who don’t completely agree with us” because that isn’t how you win elections. That’s the goal, winning elections. To be clear, the goal isn’t winning elections in one part of the state but winning elections around the state. It isn’t winning counties with as many voters as a large suburban high school but winning a majority of votes around the state. If you want to turn the Illinois GOP into a regional party with your primary fundraising hope being socially conservative billionaires wasting their money on you, then go for it. Contrary to what the consultants told a billionaire, the governor’s election made it obvious that social conservativism is not the path to winning statewide.

Social conservativism and gun rights are not the paths to victory in the suburbs, which due to changes in those suburbs, you need to focus on now more than ever. There was a reason Republicans would win in Illinois, and it wasn’t because people wanted social conservatives in office. You are like a football team that was moving the ball with the run game and suddenly decides you need to do nothing but pass and wonder why the game isn’t going so well.

There is a better path, and as a former Republican, based on what I have seen of your crew, I am relieved you don’t have the savvy or the desire to follow it.

  17. ==we have a beachhead, established in Illinois with the Illinois Freedom Caucus==

He’s confusing a beachhead with a sandbar, and it’s definitely the latter. Still made of sand, but it’s the anthesis of helping things progress and function properly.

  19. Treefiddy….same. I was expected to vote in the Steering/,,Budzinski race and was very disappointed and cringed a little in the voting booth when I saw Miller and Caulking on the ballot. It is kind of frustrating how the edge parts in the city get in these districts. Should I complain that I am being non-represented and my voice not heard since I am lumped in with these?

  20. ===I think that one of the things is that conservative ideals are gaining traction, and we have a beachhead,===

I’m old enough to remember when conservative ideas had full or partial control of state government regularly, but now you’re happy just having a beachhead? I’m assuming that those old business Republicans must not count as real conservatives to you young mavericks, but they had most of the same political positions as you…they were just less performative.

  26. CTE is not limited to pro football players and boxers apparently.

The Millers (no relation to Rich) seem to have made government a family business. Which is surprising from two people that are so opposed to government and socialism (did they mention farming?).

  28. Hey, your “world view” Didn’t fail for lack of effort to try and convince people. It failed because that world view is not shared widely.

From the interview, Miller’s worldview: “I think that, you know, the focus should have been really not even on social issues, which the…Dems wanted to focus on that. In my mind, we should have been focusing on inflation, the invasion on our southern border, and incompetence and leadership, etc.”.

“Social issues?” You mean like, abortion, gay marriage, trans rights, birth control, book banning,Control of school curriculum, drag queens, kitty litter, and so on? Yeah, no one should be interested in that stuff. How much more local can you get? It is one thing to lose. It’s another thing to be incapable of learning from the experience.

    Women.

Mind your own business and take it. Abortion doesn’t matter, and your rights to them don’t matter either.

They learned nothing because they believe their bigoted thoughts are divine, God-driven.

Welp, elections say you’re wrong as to what matters to voters.

Republicans are dangerous to women’s health, and to societal thinking too.

  39. The echo in the right wing echo chamber must be deafening. It never seems to occur to them that we’ve heard their message loud and clear and that we simply aren’t buying what they are selling. It’s a problem on the IL level and also on the national level.

Comment by Manchester Wednesday, Nov 16, 22 @ 1:07 pm

  40. =Why is the name of common sense do you keep giving this guy press space?=

Sunshine is the best disinfectant. And when the inevitable pivot from the party comes, we’ll have plenty of receipts. And for me, the prototypical college educated suburban voter, I’ll continue to keep close tabs on how the ILGOP deals with the Eastern Bloc members and what voice they have in the party.

  46. “the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and the Republican Party platform. And I know that we’re committed to those three ideals.”

Can someone please inform this scholar that the Bill of Rights are part of the Constitution?

And that the Constitution isn’t an “ideal,” it is a binding, foundational legal document.

And that the Republican Party isn’t an “ideal,” it is a voluntary political organization — an organization that couldn’t even be bothered to identify and articulate its alleged ideals as a political platform at its last national convention.

Or perhaps Mr. Miller (no relation) and his ilk should simply keep the word “ideals” out of his mouth altogether.
