* It’s my first day covering session! Tell me about what you want to see happen during veto session, or whatever else is on your Illinois-centric mind.

  1. Finding agreement on the need to find common ground regarding the needs of our citizenry.

Agreement on the need to suspend divisiveness.

  2. How about some “cool ducks”. That’d be fun to see.

There’s nothing worse than a veto session with ducks that are so lame.

    Ducks. Be cool.

    That…

…and I’d like to see a very spirited debate on things like the Safe-T Act but still finding both clarity and substance in the trailer bills.

  3. i’d like to see the new republican leader stand on the floor and say that for too long, the GOP in Illinois has stayed in the sidelines and complained. Its time to put trump, conspiracies, and complaining aside, and work with democrats to best represent our constituents. Since they are in the super minority, its unlikely that they will get everything that they want, but that doesn’t mean that the system is “rigged” against them. Sit at the table, do your best, get some wins of any kind, then return to your districts and have real conversations with your voters about what you’ve done, and why its important to expand your party by acting responsibly so that you can win more seats and get more accomplished. enough of the politics. come do the work and be honest with your constituents. put aside the silly social cleave issues and fight for the real kitchen table issues you say are really important.

  4. I’d like to see peace on Earth and goodwill toward mankind, but I guess that’s a bit much to ask of a veto session.

  5. I’d like to see Senator Hastings being held accountable for his actions by his colleagues.

  6. “i’d like to see the new republican leader stand on the floor and say…” How about this, we put that idea, my idea (”peace on Earth”) and a rock (instead of a head of lettuce) in front of a live webcam and see which one happens first?

  7. - former cubs fan -

    With respect, and I realize it’s a wish and ask, but I offer up this;

“I just think that we need to get better organized and offer the people of Illinois a choice,” Caulkins said. “I don’t know, maybe things just haven’t gotten bad enough yet to where enough people haven’t figured it out.”

    - Rep. Caulkins, Eastern Bloc, clueless

I hope you’re right. I really, truly do. Those who represent the worst of the GOP still see things in negatives, and hope for more negatives, and they are worse too.

But, I’m with you, just not optimistic

Good luck Isabel. Will your uncle be there to offer advice on your first day, or is he busy winterizing the pontoon boat before the big freeze?

  10. Isabel, great good luck covering the session. Hoping you meet folks who will treat you with respect AND become good sources for you.

  11. The one day I want to stay home due to weather, I have to go into the office for a specific meeting, grr…

Comment by Homebody Tuesday, Nov 15, 22 @ 9:51 am

  12. Find the office where the old timer lobbyists hang out during the down times of session and go off the record with them. You’ll get a graduate level education.

  13. A compromise trailer to the Saf-T-Act that addresses the more serious issues with it and that all the sides I can agree on.

I also want a winning Lottery ticket …

Comment by RNUG Tuesday, Nov 15, 22 @ 11:20 am

  14. “I also want a winning Lottery ticket … ” Well, it’s true that if you buy enough of lottery tickets, you’ll be guaranteed a winner, so by analogy, does that mean if you write enough trailer bills, you’ll be guaranteed to find one that everybody likes?

Comment by Skeptic Tuesday, Nov 15, 22 @ 1:23 pm

  15. Appalling anti-semitic graffiti attack on Waukegan Jewish cemetery (swastikas, “Kanya was rite”). Yet, some could tweet only that this was “not Chicago” rather than condemning the attack (including some local reporters). You’d think an allegedly unbiased, educated person - in today’s climate - would appreciate the tone of such a narrow response. But, sadly, it fits in all too well with the crowd saying that Jews are overreacting, its just facts, nothing to see here. The danger is not so much the overt anti-semite but from those who don’t think its a big deal.
