Jesse White calls new Proft ad “highly offensive,” Ald. Beale slams Bailey and Proft “and their racist, fear-mongering propaganda machine”

Posted in:

* I saw this Proft ad last night…

People Who Play By The Rules PAC has launched a new :30 TV spot, “Last Dance.” It will run on Illinois TV stations this week and can be seen on YouTube and on the PBR PAC Facebook page.

:30 TV Script:

What’s more painful than watching this?

*Unmodified footage of Pritzker ineptly dancing on stage

Hearing what Pritzker says about Black elected officials when he thinks no one is listening.

ABC7 broadcaster, 2018: “Newly released FBI recording of Democratic gubernatorial candidate JB Pritzker is causing a deep split in the African-American community.”

“Of all the African Americans I can think that are sort of like qualified as least offensive, it’s Jesse White. Emil [Jones] is a little more crass.” -Pritzker from Blagojevich FBI tapes

Alderman Anthony Beale, 9th Ward, 2018: “This is a slap in our face, taking our community for granted. This is not the kind of leadership that we need at this time.”

PUNISH PRITZKER FOR HIS RACISM.

* React from Secretary of State Jesse White…

I have known JB Pritzker for more than 30 years and I consider him a very good friend. I also consider him the best governor that Illinois has had in my lifetime.

As governor and as a private citizen, JB has supported not only the African-American community, but all communities throughout the state. I know where his heart is and he doesn’t have a racist bone in his body.

To manipulate a taped phone conversation and to use it in a political commercial, as it reflects the Governor’s views, is highly offensive.

I strongly encourage the people of Illinois to ignore this desperate political ad.

* Ald. Anthony Beale…

Last night I discovered that Dan Profit, on behalf of the Republican Party, has created a commercial that uses my image and words to disparage Governor JB Pritzker.

Profit did not gain my permission or consent to ues my image or words. Rather, he took a sentence said years ago out of context in a crass attempt to diminish the vote for Governor Pritzker by implying that I am critical of the governor.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. Over the last four years, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Governor Pritzker on a variety of issues––and I’ve seen firsthand the impact his administration’s investments have made in our communities. Darren Bailey, Dan Proft, and their racist, fear-mongering propaganda machine have never once stood up for Black and brown families, and their attempts to use us as political pawns in the final days of this election is sickening.

Dan Profit did not ask my permission to appear in this ad––and had he asked I would have unequivocally refused. I demand that he take this ad off the air immediately, and will be pursuing all legal remedies available.

Not sure if he has a legal leg to stand on, but what do you think of the ad?

…Adding… Natalie Edelstein at the Pritzker campaign…

“If your strategy five days from Election Day is attempting to suppress the Black vote, you’re losing.”

* Related…

* How anti-Pritzker PAC is trying to suppress the Black vote in Chicago: One interpretation could be that it’s just an attempt to persuade Black voters to support Bailey. However, since the fear-mongering flyers and signs do not push Bailey’s candidacy, the strategy appears to be to depress Black voter turnout for Pritzker, political operatives said. Democratic political consultant Ron Holmes, a veteran of many campaigns in Illinois where turning out the Black vote has been critical, said these Proft PAC appeals are “directly aimed at ensuring Black voters stay at home rather than vote for candidates who have been working in their best interests.”

  1. Digging up stuff from 5 years ago is what actually seems desperate.

  2. Well, there was never a denial, as a matter of fact a sort-of apology, but Jb did say those words. We need to hold all accountable for offensive, devisive, racist language regardless of party.

  3. First, this;

    ===“If your strategy five days from Election Day is attempting to suppress the Black vote, you’re losing.”===

    Likely true in this case.

    Proft is classless. Make no mistake.

    If you’re asking a man… asking a man who victimizes victims again and again by running ads with a crime being perpetrated upon them… to have a conscience or class…

    … you’re asking too much of Dan Proft.

    Good on ALL needlessly dragged into Proft’s slime to call out Proft… the legality isn’t the issue, however… ethics and class definitely is.

  4. I wonder how many voters are actually swayed by Proft ads or phony newspapers. I thought no it really is all about him and how much money he can make off scamming multi millionaires. How many of his candidates have actually won an election? Or won because of him not in spite of him?

    Comment by DuPage Saint Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 11:52 am

  5. Cut and paste ads always lack context, by design.

    I doubt it will have much effect at all, other than (hopefully) the legal remedies Beale is suggesting.

    Comment by H-W Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 11:58 am

  6. ==How many of his candidates have actually won an election?==

    His track record is pretty bad, but of course there’s a lot of other factors in any given election.

    I can’t recall any time he’s had to shoulder the entire messaging burden for ILGOP like he does right now, either.

  7. “Well, there was never a denial, as a matter of fact a sort-of apology, but Jb did say those words. We need to hold all accountable for offensive, devisive, racist language regardless of party.”

    My take is that neither Secy. White or Alderman Beale think this. Beale calls the use out of context and both men express confidence and support toward Gov. Pritzker. I’ll take their queue as to whether the language was racist.

    Comment by Proud Sucker Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 12:07 pm

  8. Wow that was really racist. Wait, the ad or what the governor said? Because what the governor said was really racist. I guess it is now racist to play the racist comments that he made? What a time to be alive.

    Comment by Trap Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 12:12 pm

  9. ===what the governor said was really racist===

    Explain.

  10. Proft has a record of frustration and isolation. poor sad sack of a guy.

    Comment by Amalia Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 12:15 pm

  11. ==What a time to be alive.==

    I would suggest that asserting that you know better than two of the African American men actually implicated in the ad is not one of the suggestions in “How To Be An Anti-Racist”.

    Comment by Arsenal Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 12:21 pm

  12. ==Explain.==

    Yeah. It was certainly inartful, and absolutely fair game politically, but I’ve never quite clocked how comparing Jesse White to Emil Jones displays prejudice against African Americans.

    Comment by Arsenal Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 12:23 pm

  13. Based on the early voting numbers in Chicago, it looks like the African-American vote is naturally suppressed. Proft may be over playing his hand when he doesn’t need to.

    Comment by TR Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 12:31 pm

  14. How is being called “crass” racist to begin with? That simply means JB found Emil a little rough around the edges in behavior compared to Jessie.
    And everybody note that People That Lie Like Rugs has turned off comments for that YouTube video, apparently not wanting to face any heat.

    Comment by thisjustinagain Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 12:31 pm

  15. If only Proft spent a few bucks hiring a speech coach for his candidate. Darren Bailey the linguistically challenged candidate for the GOP struggles with pronouncing E-la-noy.

    Counting the days until the commercials and mailers end.

    Comment by Rudy’s teeth Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 12:34 pm

  16. =Counting the days until the commercials and mailers end.=

    I agree with you but I don’t think bailey is going away. He has been a perpetual candidate since he was first elected. And that just adds to his hypocrisy since he publicly states he does not like establishment politicians.

    Comment by JS Mill Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 1:52 pm

  17. = Proft has a record of frustration and isolation. poor sad sack of a guy. =

    He’s actually a *rich* sad sack of a guy, and he’s perfectly fine with that.

    Comment by cover Thursday, Nov 3, 22 @ 2:03 pm

  18. This ad begs the question, “Jesse White is most qualified and the least controversial candidate for what? What position were they discussing?”

    It goes with question that Jesse White is in fact the least offense politician in Illinois.

    And relative to Jesse White, I am willing to guess Emil Jones is more crass than Jesse White. I do not personally know either, but would I be correct to assume Emil Jones is more crass than Jesse White? What would Mr. Jones say?

    In reality, what is clearly going on here is race-baiting. Because race may have been being considered (or not), the people making the ad make it about race without any evidence whatsoever.

    And yet. Some people will believe what is spun in their direction.

  19. (I posted a transcript before, but this one’s complete)

    Pritzker: I got a great idea for you though.

    Blagojevich: ‘Kay.

    Pritkzer: I’m sure you, I’m sure you thought of this one, but: Jesse White. Even though I know you guys aren’t like, you know, bosom buddies or anything. It covers you on the African American thing.

    Blagojevich: Correct.

    Pritzker: He’s totally, he’s totally, you know … he’s Senate material in a way that Emil Jones isn’t, if I may say.

    Blagojevich: Okay.

    Pritzker: I mean, you know, he’s just, I don’t know how to say it exactly. But Emil’s a little more crass.

    Blagojevich: Right.

    Pritzker: Um, and, it opens up the Secretary of State spot, which is the key spot that controls jobs, etc. And it would be a lot less pressure on you. You don’t have to put an African American in that spot.

    Blagojevich: Correct.

    Later in the call:

    Pritzker: Of all the African Americans I can think that are sort of like, qualified, and vetted, and people will say ‘Oh, that’s, you know, that’s a pretty good pick.’ The one I, you know, that’s least offensive and maybe gets you the most cause it gets you that Secretary of State appointment, is Jesse White.

    Blagojevich: You can argue, he’s, you know, he’s got a lot in common with Obama. He’s black and white. Ha.

    Pritzker: Heh, heh.

    Blagojevich: Huh. How stupid is that?

    Pritzker: That’s good, that’s good.

    Blagojevich: Hey um, no, he’s a good, he’d be a legitimate pick.

    Pritzker: I’m not pushing anybody.

    Blagojevich: No I understand. What you’re saying there makes perfect sense. He has said he doesn’t want it.
