Emerson College Poll Has Attorney General Race Closer than Governor's

* I’m not sure what poll Mr. DeVore is looking at, but the Emerson poll doesn’t have Raoul up by 6 with 10 percent undecided as he claims. The poll says Raoul is up by eight with nine percent undecided

Also, the governor isn’t up by 10, he’s up by 9, according to the poll.

I mean, these are small differences, but still. C’mon, man. Math ain’t that hard. Use a calculator if you have to. 47 minus 39 equals 8.

  1. As the errors are in his favor, I assume they were intentional.

  2. Rounding up for me and down for thee. 8.9 we’ll call it 10.

  3. He figures since he’s running for Attorney General and not Treasurer or Comptroller math isn’t that important.

  4. When your “rounding errors” still show you trailing, that’s not the type of message you want with “teen” days to go with early voting underway.

I’d like to think it’s merely a “math” thing, but it seems to be a mathematical “ego boost”, purposeful miscalculation, nothing less

  5. Seems the GOP sent the talking point, “GOP closing fast don’t believe the polls”. Have seen that being repeated over and over in the last 72 hours from every GOP candidate.

  6. Speaking of Fun With Numbers, when I looked at the poll data you provided yesterday, I believe it said 11% of the respondents were Latino. The Latino population of Illinois is currently 18%.

Are Latinos under-represented in the poll, or are Latinos substantially less likely to be registered voters in Illinois.

  7. Reminds me of one of my favorite Pat Quinn-isms: “The only poll that matters is the one on Election Day.”

He usually pulled that one out in the races where he got trounced.

  8. If anyone thinks Devore will admit defeat after a fair, secure election I have shares in the new Dongola casino and event center to sell them.

  9. Tom to the Illinois public: “hit me with it”
    Illinois: “not good”
Tom: “you mean not good as in 1 out of 100?”
Illinois: “I’d say more like 1 out of a million.”
Tom: “So you’re telling me there’s a chance.”

I believe it’s Election Denier 101 allows for the reshaping of any poll to fit your narrative that any Republican loss is simply the result of voter fraud.

  13. Rich, Mr. DeVore is just too important, too busy to be subjected to this nitpicking.

Numbers, shumbers, he’s in the homestretch, closing in on Mr. Raoul. That’s tbig story here.
