Subject: The Media is Overblowing COVID-19
Dear Members of the Illinois Legislature:There were 1,701 cases in the U.S. of which there were 41 deaths; whereas an overwhelming number of people have been infected with and died from the flu this season.
While you may think the government enforced closing of events, schools, etc. is helping prevent the spread of this infection, you are impacting local, state and national economies and adding unnecessary panic and fear in the American people.
What happens in 2 weeks? Are you willing to indefinitely close institutions? At what point do we go back to our normal lives? This has been a huge disruption.

* Well, legislators received two emailed letters from Ms. Uihlein today. The first brings up some canards about vote by mail…
Members of the Illinois House and Senate –
The Permanent Vote by Mail program makes Illinois elections less secure and offers more opportunity for fraud.
First, per the application, a voter can have the ballot mailed to any address. No safeguards are offered to ensure the voter actually resides at that location.
Second, per our local County Clerk’s notice, the voter must request to be removed from the Vote by Mail program, unless the clerk receives confirmation the voter registered to vote in another county. There is no indication that if a voter moves out of state and fails to provide notice, the address on file will stop receiving a ballot.
Lastly, missing from our local County Clerk’s notice, there is no indication of automatic removal for deceased voters. How and when would a deceased voter be removed from receiving automatic ballots?
Ensuring democracy means having a secure election. Having citizens complete a ballot application for each election, is a minimal ask for the integrity of the vote.
I call on the legislature to pass election reform removing the Permanent Vote by Mail program.

It is unfathomable that any elected official that cares about their community would vote to approve the SAFE-T Act. Much like we’ve seen in Washington, D.C. with passage of The Inflation Reduction Act, the SAFE-T Act offers the exact opposite of public safety.
Abolishing cash bail and not requiring pretrial detention for heinous crimes is completely irresponsible. Second-degree murder, arson, and aggravated battery are just a few examples of crimes the SAFE-T Act would allow defendants to freely roam our city streets.
We can look to our neighboring state to the north, Wisconsin, and see how a soft-on-crime approach to the justice system ruins communities. The Waukesha Parade tragedy was horrific and completely preventable if the suspect wasn’t free on low bail.
Illinois is already dealing with rising crime, emboldened career-criminals, and apathetic State’s Attorneys. Releasing individuals already apprehended will only make the matter worse.
I strongly urge you to repeal the SAFE-T Act before these individuals are released into our communities.

I’m the last one to complain about someone from out of state discussing Illinois policy, but ah, referring to our neighbor to the north while signing the note as from Wisconsin is just kid of weird. Is she just sending form letters from some site?

March 13, 2020, was my last day in the office for more than a year. That letter certainly didn’t age well. I suspect her most recent dispatches are also soon to collapse under the weight of facts.
Between Mrs U, Dan P, and John K, a lot of our-of-staters are worried about us.

DissapointedVoter, she lives in Illinois. Lake County. Her company got a sweet incentive package to move to Wisconsin, just across the border. They live in Illinois partly because we have a lower, flat income tax and Wisconsin has a graduated tax.

It’s an odd flex to be the Illinois resident, *be* the Wisconsin woman with an address sharing your last name, and then write with said address under your signature to legislators of your state.
I don’t think there’s a thoughtfulness to this whole address thingy, I do think using an address with your name as the street in it gives *her* this sense of NEEDED importance that she may crave, like craving attention “look at me, listen to me, I’m important”… Fredo vibes with that address flex.
She’s smart, not like people say…

Ms. Uihlein embodies the crony capitalism (clout, corporate incentives, etc.) and hypocrisy she professes to condemn.
Over a million people have died of COVID in the US to date (34,000 in Illinois alone), with people still dying every month. Had there been no forced closures or mask mandates, millions more would have died. Highly ironic for a “pro-life” advocate to condemn life-saving measures.
Vote-by-mail is very important for college students who may not have somebody to forward a ballot from home.
Human rights, human life, and public health deserve to take precedence over aristocracy / plutocracy views.

Maybe they just live in Illinois because Lake Forest has a lot more multi millionaires to pal around with than Kenosha does.
So if a college student requests a mail in ballot the state will automatically mail a ballot to the college address next election?
What could possibly go wrong?

I’m sure most legislators rightly ignore these screeds the way they would any misinformed email from someone who doesn’t live in their district. But I hope she received a couple of replies patiently explaining how wrong her assertions are on both issues.
Usually billionaires that politically engaged don’t have open minds about much of anything. She’s sending these emails after she and her husband decided to spend millions to defeat a lot of those legislators. But if she’s going to make direct contact instead of just funding garbage from Florida, she should receive some of the truths Proft will never tell her.

When you send it from Wisconsin you’re just a Cheesehead, so why should anyone in Illinois pay attention to you. Saw a Bear’s license plate with FTP on it, took a minute to figure out it probably wasn’t the driver’s initials.

How about a compromise: we don’t repeal the SAFE-T Act, and we also don’t release dangerous people. Would she be ok if we stopped letting people buy their way out of pre-trial detention and instead based it on actual risk? If that’s an acceptable outcome, I think legislators can agree to that.
