Intro: German Shepherd barking with a mother and son carving pumpkins on the porch.

Mike: “Nothing’s better than a good watch dog to protect the family - keep you safe when you’re not looking.
As State Treasurer, that’s what I’ve done.

When big banks and tech companies tried to rip us off, I made them pay back over 1.5 billion dollars to taxpayers.

And I forced life insurance companies to pay families back over $800 million in unclaimed benefits.

It’s your money and I’m proud to be your watch dog.”

Narrator: “For State Treasurer, Mike Frerichs.”

All the statewide Democrats are now on TV.

  1. B good message. the colors of the tie and sweater are off-putting for me.

  2. It’s a solid B

After two runs, they finally got the awkward height thing right, using stairs for interactions, that’s really smart and sharp. Sitting and petting the dog, all good.

Simple story frames, good theme with a “guard dog”, the sweater and tie doesn’t even look forced.

    It’s not an A. Why?

That lil frame of Frerichs on the stairs, “headless”

It looks odd, out of place, out of frame,

They could’ve fixed that, made the stairs really work where that height interaction is fully nullified. The out of frame moment is a tick down.

    Solid B

  5. Saw this on broadcast yesterday. It’s a perfectly serviceable ad and at least he didn’t say he stands tall for Illinois. Solid B.

  6. Forgot - only complaint about this ad is where are his glasses? He looks off without them.

  7. Tiresome…like the rest.

  8. I’m so bummed Frerichs and Mendoza didn’t cut an ad with them standing side by side –an ad that tried to explain the differences in their two job titles.

Regardless, this is an appealing and solid ad for Frerichs. Rated A-

  9. Great ad, but I couldn’t stop looking at that bright purple 1/4 zip he’s wearing.
