- In IL-10, Republican Joseph Severino says his new poll by Victory Research shows he’s still in the hunt. Though POLITICO’s Forecast 2022 has the race as going solid Democrat for Rep. Brad Schneider.
* Democrats defend the SAFE-T Act as opposition grows: A recent panel discussion was held to “dispel myths on ending money bonds” in the state, organizers said. One of the architects of the law, state Sen. Robert Peters, D-Chicago, said the crime wave is a byproduct of the current judicial system.
* Daily Herald Endorsement: Kwame Raoul for attorney general: four years ago, we endorsed Raoul based on his depth of understanding of the law, his experience and his passion on behalf of public service. He has not disappointed. He has been an activist attorney general who has upheld the energetic decadeslong consumer-focused traditions of the attorney general’s office. Raoul has earned another term.
* Daily Herald opinion: Mike Frerichs endorsed for another term as state treasurer: In his two terms as Illinois’ chief investment officer, the state has topped $1.2 billion in investment gains while cutting investment fees by more than $100 million. Frerichs accelerated and increased repayments of unclaimed property by modernizing this once paper-based program.
* Race could determine partisan makeup of state’s high court: It’s a race that’s become more visible on the airwaves in recent days, with Gov. JB Pritzker chipping $500,000 into the Rochford campaign war chest. Her backers have aired ads that highlight Curran’s long history of antiabortion rhetoric. Rochford, meanwhile, has support from abortion rights advocacy groups and her campaign website bills her as a champion of women’s rights.
* Senate District 31 candidates have different views on SAFE-T Act, other issues: Listening to former state Rep. Mary Edly-Allen, D-Libertyville, and Republican Adam Solano of Third Lake, talk about the SAFE-T Act, a voter might think the two Illinois state Senate candidates are speaking about two different pieces of legislation. “It needs to be repealed or heavily fixed,” Solano said. “It’s wrong to keep people in jail just because they don’t have money, but let violent people walk free because they do,” Edly-Allen said.
* Candidates make their case for election to state House in Districts 51 and 52: Both Syed and Bos want to see a reduction in gun violence, but they have different approaches. Syed said she will support legislation to ban military assault weapons and wants to find ways to stem the flow of weapons arriving in Illinois from other states with laxer laws.
* Video: House District 65 candidates Ugaste, Robertson discuss state finances, other issues: Republican state legislator Dan Ugaste and Democrat Linda Robertson are running for the 65th state House district in the Nov. 8 general election. Apparently Paddock and the DH must agree with Frerichs that the state needs to tax retirement.

An easy attack, but a lazy one. Frerichs was speaking in the context of the Fair Tax Amendment and was speaking to the prospect of taxing the “retirement income” of folks making hundreds of thousands. That was immediately lost in the fear-mongering uproar stoked by Griffin et al. It worked, it saved rich folks millions in taxes and lots of folks continue to spread the message: don’t tax the rich, they need their money.

It’s not lazy, actually, it’s who Frerichs is.
Frerichs stands tall to a discussion to taxing retirement income.
If Frerichs thinks he’s gubernatorial material next run, seniors will continually be reminded, when Frerichs’ guard was down, trying to be the smartest in the room, he made clear, discussing taxing retirement income, Frerichs is fine.
Frerichs as a governor? It will be… will be dangerous to seniors living on retirement income.

There’s definitely some truth to the poll in IL-10 showing Congressman Schneider up by only 7 points, and while all the major ratings services rate the 10th solid Democrat, a hit piece against challenger Severino calling out his abortion stance, by name, proof Schneider’s internals showing race closer than expected.
The 10th is the handgun-shaped district predominately Lake County, but the barrel includes northeastern McHenry County, as far west was as Hebron, and including the northern portion of the city of McHenry.
Could IL-10 become the sleeper/late competitive race seen in IL-17 two years ago? We’ll see.

As a great example, the Uihlein analysis piece, where the money is going, who those folks are… it’s important that those type works get sunshine, so thank you.

Opinion based on no facts, as the abortion issue is seemingly finding its way into every congressional race for Dems, “you just never know, so let’s remind voters” kind of feel, in some cases.
If you believe what you typed, then the abortion ad, or any abortion ad, is effective in staving off GOP surges, counter to what GOPers are trying to say that abortion isn’t a big factor in races, while Dems are spending time and money to highlight such differences, in an offensive and defensive posture as candidates/incumbents

An attack mailer is out against Severino is the fact. The content being abortion inconsequential.
IL-10 rated “solid/safe Democrat” by all ratings services.
Look at IL-11 and IL-14, neither Congressman Foster nor Congresswoman Underwood attacking their Republican challengers by name. Yes, they bring up abortion, but they don’t bring up their opponents nor do they refer to them as “my opponent”.
Fact Schneider attacking Severino by name in a mailer is something Foster and Underwood not doing in their respective reelection bids.

I’m sure it’s coming later but WBEZ and S-T is reporting that Alexi has a 43-32 poll lead for SOS, and Kwame 44-35 over DeVore.

I could only imagine if Frerichs ran for an off-cycle office, like Mendoza did when she ran for Mayor in 2019 and came in 5th place, what OW would be saying about him, then if he is running for another term. HE WANTS TO TAX RETIREMENT AND HE’S BORED WITH HIS CURRENT JOB. He’s dangerous not just for senior citizens, but the whole state because he will be asleep at the wheel while your hard earned tax dollars are being invested, and your kids 529 college savings plan is at stake (oh wait Alexi already did that!)
The obsession is weird, and coming unhinged as the months have passed.
