  1. I think Proft’s goal with this is free media. He wants local news to play and discuss.

Comment by Pot calling kettle Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 12:18 pm

  2. Did he alter this one too? Maybe the weather in Naples will slow him down for a few days.

  3. this is disgusting on so many levels. TV stations should refuse to air that

  4. Congrats to Dan on his new gig helming Bumfights PAC.

Comment by Roadrager Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 12:24 pm

  5. I’m betting he hasn’t gotten permission of the poor guy who gets assaulted. Nothing like triggering some guys PTSD for a political commercial.

  6. A non-detainable defense?
    Is there such a thing?

  7. ===Is there such a thing? ===

    No

Comment by Rich Miller Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 12:31 pm

  8. The ad reeks of desperation. That said, the conversation on crime continues and it will chisel away at some votes that would have gone the D way.

Comment by Amalia Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 12:40 pm

  9. It seems like Proft has totally forgotten about his original mission, which was to get Republicans like Darren Bailey elected. He took Uihlein’s money and is using it instead to get the emptiest attention calories he can find. He’s just going to keep increasing the degree of cruelty until he’s finally relegated to the ignored depraved corners of the internet. Bumfights PAC is exactly right, Roadrager.

  11. I appreciate the commentary here. It’s a shame the comments are turned off on YouTube.

  12. Visuals are louder than words on a screen talking about Darren Bailey’s voting record on crime.

Comment by Almost the Weekend Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 12:47 pm

  13. Effective ads change peoples’ attitudes and behavior in the direction intended by the advertiser. I think the word you were looking far is defective.

  14. I don’t know who’s more revolting, the kids in the video or Proft.

  15. ==It seems like Proft has totally forgotten about his original mission, which was to get Republicans like Darren Bailey elected.==

You seem to misunderstand Dan Proft’s mission, which is “separate as much money from an office supply billionaire as the law allows.”

==I like reading the comments here, it shows me how effective these ads are.==

Losing by twenty to own the libs.

Comment by Roadrager Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 12:50 pm

  16. While Dems stumble all over themselves trying to “fix” the poorly named SAFT-T Act, thus giving fuel to the notion that the Act is a disaster. Then comes Profit with videos that are crude but effective. They put the viewer in the shoes of the victim. If you ride the CTA enough and at night, it is inevitable that you will witness crimes. Logical for Proft to link the crime to JB and his priorities such as SAFE-T act. Hope the victim is OK

Comment by Donnie Elgin Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 12:53 pm

  17. -Then comes Profit-

    Freudian slip.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 12:55 pm

  18. ===I like reading the comments here, it shows me how effective these ads are.===

They are effective to keeping Bailey roughly 9 or so points behind as he currently resides, if polling is to be believed.

    To the ad?

    It’s a C+

These aren’t “Willie Horton” type ads that are going to change the game for Bailey.

The bet is on abortion and suburban women choosing their right to choose versus these ads. That’s kinda where this race is “stalled”

As an ad, it’s better than a Gentleman’s C but can it change ladies’ minds on Pritzker?

Dunno. This ad doesn’t give me a better feeling on it moving.

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 12:58 pm

  19. ===but effective===

What is the goal of the exercise?

Proft’s goal is to get his fees. Do some ads, generate fees.

If Crime was so effective Irvin wouldn’t have placed 3rd, in his own party primary.

It’s effective to keep a base ginned up, it’s not known (yet) if Bailey is honestly gaining ground.

A want is not a truth

  20. === You seem to misunderstand Dan Proft’s mission===

Lol I know, that was the joke I was going for. He does seem to be pretending less lately though.

===shows me how effective these ads are===

They are effective for their intended purpose, which is getting people who follow politics to criticize Dan Proft. Using other peoples’ video also helps keep production costs down, which leaves Proft’s pockets fuller. The whole enterprise is totally separate from anything having to do with election results.

Comment by vern Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 1:06 pm

  21. At this point there could be a class action lawsuit against Dan for all of the victims he exploited and traumatized.

Comment by Huddy Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 1:06 pm

  22. I dunno…

If I was the Pritzker Crew I’d make a big deal…

“If Proft’s goal with these ads is to continue to victimize the victims, making their trauma his cold political pivot, then Proft truly doesn’t understand what it means to champion victims of crime.”

Words to that effect, wordsmith away…

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 1:09 pm

  23. “you ride the CTA enough and at night, it is inevitable that you will witness crimes.”

Green or Blue line every single day for 7 years. Other than drinking or smoking, never saw a single crime.

Which isn’t to say crime on the CTA isn’t a problem. It’s just to say you’re an ignorant, naive, scared liar.

  24. What rules are they playing by?

Comment by Save Ferris Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 1:15 pm

    Effective at WHAT?

    Be specific.

  26. == Then comes Profit with videos that are crude but effective.==

They’re not effective, tho. Heck, so far they’re barely even on the air.

== Hope the victim is OK==

Sure you do. You just don’t hope it enough to stop cheering on exploiting him.

Comment by Arsenal Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 1:27 pm

  27. Effective at WHAT

Proft’s intention with these ads is to generate buzz in the media and add to the narrative surrounding the Safe-T Act which is now an albatross around the Dems. In the end, getting voters to think about the Dem brand (JB)and what it stands for 40 days out.

  29. 1. Another rip-off from CWBChicago, they must be thrilled.

    2. This will not be running on statewide media.

    3. This is a forcible felony, which is grounds for denying pre-trial release under the SAFE-T Act (see (725 ILCS 5/110-6.1 b(2))

  30. Not a great look for the CTA.

  32. ===to generate buzz in the media and add to the narrative surrounding the Safe-T Act which is now an albatross around the Dems.===

So… not to help Bailey win.

So many words, yet you seemingly forgot the alleged goal.

That’s right, it’s not the goal, is it?

    :)

The slimy part of the yvictimization of victims is just the cherry on top, amirite?

  33. How on earth could you ride the blue or green line every single day for the past seven years?

Comment by Lucky Pierre Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 1:54 pm

  34. ===How on earth could you ride the blue or green line every single day for the past seven years?===

People in the real world do it.

Being sheltered to an urban lifestyle isn’t a good look as one who is “concerned” about any urban issues.

Actually, that question explains so much about your faux persona.

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 1:59 pm

  35. == So… not to help Bailey win.==

The best part is, it’s basically unfalsifiable. “Generate buzz and add to the narrative” is meaningless influencer jargon.

  36. I used to ride the Blue Line 5 nights a week. Got mugged once on it. Did not suddenly see this as the Governor’s fault.

Also, CPD caught the kids. Six months in juvie. One month for every dollar they got off me.

  38. The comment about riding the Blue/Green line every single day…
Folks work at O’Hare and travelers use the Blue Line all day every day. Folks who work I at the hospital complex near Ashland use the Green Line on a daily basis.

It’s living in the city, Homer.

  39. Proft is just playing to MAGA. I did enjoy City Wire…good kindling for the grill.

Comment by PublicServant Wednesday, Sep 28, 22 @ 3:10 pm

  40. If you are accused of me, you are ineligible for pretrial detention.

Yes, don’t highlight crime. The proliferation of violent crime throughout the state and more people traumatized is a small price to pay for protecting the victims from having the crimes against them reported.

In fact, let’s not talk about any crimes with victims, unless, of course, such talk results in more votes for Democrats.
