I live four hours south of Chicago. I’m a farmer in Southern Illinois. And my wife Cindy and I have recently moved into the inner city of Chicago.

We are there every day, walking up and down the streets, in and out of businesses.

That is the first time I’ve ever heard the Magnificent Mile described as the “inner city of Chicago.”

I really do respect the idea behind the move, but Bailey’s unwillingness to learn anything really undermines any gesture he attempts. Referring to the Mag Mile as the “inner city” is part of a pattern of malapropisms that he could avoid if he cared to show respect. It’s of a piece with the Democrat slur I harp on, and the fact that in his Rosh Hashanah message he referred to the Illinois Jewish community as his “Israel friends” and as being “mostly in Chicago.” It’s either intentional ignorance-as-signaling or he really just can’t put anything new in his brain.

Candidate Bailey forget to add this to his description—-a luxury iconic building on the Mag Mile with a view of Lake Michigan, an indoor swimming pool, fully equipped gym, a full service grocery store, and a party room for residents.
Let’s not forget about the staff of doormen work are available 24-7. Darren is such a piece of work. Inner city, really.

I WAS LIVING four hours south of Chicago. I WAS a farmer in Southern Illinois. And my wife Cindy and I have recently moved into MY UNDERSTANDING OF inner city of Chicago.

We are there every day, walking up and down the streets, in and out of businesses.

In all seriousness, if he legitimately affirms what is reported he stated, then he is nearly betraying 80% of those who will vote for him. Many swear to never vote for a person north of I-80. He will also be “living” in an area that he promised to officially excommunicate from the state’s territories.

Some may argue, West of Halsted Avenue to Austin Blvd or South of Roosevelt Road may be a good place to start.

North Michigan Avenue is no where near the “inner city”.

It’s not even a commonly used phrase any longer. It was used to describe mainly Black neighborhoods close to downtown. Those neighborhoods no longer exist as they were back then.

I used to commute on Roosevelt Rd west to Ashland. I would not refer to that area as inner city. It feels very middle class or higher.

I somehow missed his Rosh Hashanah greeting (and google ain’t helping which may indicate just how important Bailey is).
Sigh. I grew up in central IL. I am Jewish. I was reared that way. In central IL. We went to temple in Champaign on the high holies and other important days. On non-big shabats we prayed gathered with other Jews and family in our homes.
We weren’t that far from Xenia.

This is absolutely the case. As I’ve said before, Darren is the True Believer. What he says and does almost never has a political varnish applied to it. That is who he is, and that should give just about anyone pause.

At this point I can no longer discern whether Bailey is being cagey or just showing his unfamiliarity with Chicago. It’s so exhausting trying to figure out his strategy, assuming there is one.

Did anybody catch the feature story in the Post from a couple days ago? Some of the comments are worth reading.

Huh, you must be a tourist as well if you believe the West Loop and South Loop are still part of the “inner city”. Those areas left that income range a long time ago.

A short walk from the Hancock to State and Chicago to board the Red Line is in order.

Travel south to 95th St./Dan Ryan or north to Howard. An opportunity to travel like Chicago residents and meet and greet along the way.

Meh, is it really any different than suburbanites (of Chicago that should know better) saying they are going downtown? When in reality they are going to Lincoln Park or Lakeview or Old Town or something certainly not “downtown.” The correct term is “the City” not “downtown.” The clueless are everywhere.
