Bello: My name is Dr. Brook Bello, and I’m not a political figure, I’m a survivor. When I was a young girl I was trafficked, drugged and raped. The traffickers forced me to have multiple abortions. Last year I begged Governor Pritzker to preserve the right of parents to know if their daughters were about to undergo an abortion. Governor Pritzker didn’t listen to me, but I hope that you will.
PROTECT GIRLS. REPEAL PRITZKER.

I rate this as a red herring. What exactly would “parental notification” have done to help in this woman’s tragic situation - particularly when that requirement was in place at the time?

It’s an odd flex ad, it’s like a… B-
Here’s why, from the ad;
“ When I was a young girl I was trafficked, drugged and raped. The traffickers forced me to have multiple abortions. Last year I begged Governor Pritzker to preserve the right of parents to know if their daughters were about to undergo an abortion.”
What’s confusing, to me, is that if she was underage and a victim and the procedures, if legally done, isn’t there a responsibility for law enforcement to that end?
It seems that the ad wants an ignoring of the victimization and trauma she faced, by the words in the ad, I can’t speak to her experiences, but these words seem to only confuse the situation as “is she pro choice” or “should a parent force a ‘young girl’ to have a pregnancy go to full term, no matter the trauma?” Should a young girl be forced by a parent to continue a pregnancy of their rapist?
The ad is smokey and clouded, she also comes across not very empathetic toward any of the plight she faced that others have or are facing now.
It’s a generous B-, don’t know if it sways anyone due in part to an ambiguity to thought outside a disagreement with Pritzker.

Apparently, the law requiring parental notification didn’t prevent Dr.Bello from being trafficked or having multiple abortions. It did prevent girls from accessing abortions when a family member impregnated them which is why it was widely supported by people who deal with these victims.
I give it a B. It’s well done, she is a creditable spokesperson and it is an emotional punch for parents who fear for their daughters’ safety. It plays on something we all want to be true, all parents will protect their daughters. Dr. Bellow’s rejection of the needs of girls whose parents abuse or neglect them is disheartening.

Going to give it a hard F. There’s nothing about abortion that helps Republicans this year, and the “Lifetime Achievement Award” she references is available to anyone who does 4,000 hours of community service over the course of their life. She just happened to apply for the award when Obama was President.

Such horror stories are moderately effective, but the effect is blunted by the sub par production values and the lack of a clear call to action- “Repeal Pritzker” is not something anyone can do anytime soon.
I also kind of doubt that the kind of people who perform abortions for human traffickers report their activities anyway- and wouldn’t the PN requirement have been in place when it happened to this woman?

Like others have stated, human traffickers weren’t stopped from forcing her to have abortions by the law in force at the time, because they weren’t her parents.
From a production standpoint, I would have just kept the initial shot through the whole 30 seconds. That would make the focus HER story and how SHE implored Pritzker to not repeal the notification law.

This is a D. Most people are not going to understand the right’s obsession with “trafficking”.
Plus, the Supreme’s Court ruling has changed the playing field for any abortion arguments the Republicans can make now.

Obviously, the audience matters.
For anti-abortion conservatives, this is going to play very well. It justifies why parental notification matters, in a way that few will have ever considered. So for this minority group of voters, A+.
For other republicans, particularly AWAKE-IL Republicans, it will feed the fire, but in ways they do not care. And because it is not angry, I would rate it a C for this minority of voters.
For liberals and democrats (my group)? I think it is a B in that it makes us pause. It will not influence us against our stand on women’s rights, because in the final anaysis, the breakdown was with the people performing abortions. They have the obligation to report suspected sex abuse, and I cannot imagine a legitimate doctor would not note the signs of multiple abortions. That they did not report it suggests they would not have reported it.
As to progressives. No Grade.

D+ There’s a reason PNA didn’t go through smoothly — “parental notification” sounds important and reasonable. Had it been framed as Democrats going too far or not caring about parents, it might’ve worked. The QAnon-turned-GOP obsession with trafficking totally destroyed any chance for that.

I rate it a C-. Dr. Bello’s story is a tragic one. As any story of trafficking and forced abortions would be. It just doesn’t have any connection to parental notification.

I give it an F. As others have said, what does one have to do with the other? Did you want to have the trafficker’s baby? Did you tell the medical professional you were being trafficked? I’m confused.

Pretty weak. High probability it slides by unnoticed. Showing some proof of her protest might have helped… ya know letter to or the pro forma “thanks for sharing…” so zip here too.

I’m confused by this story. Where were her parents while she was being trafficked? She was kidnapped? Her parents were the traffickers?

Don’t forget that this is being produced and aired for an audience of one– Uihlien. It seems clear that nothing else matters to Proft, especially winning elections. Nonsensical? Non-sequitur? Who cares as long as old Dick gets a jolt out of it and keeps cutting the checks.

F. I saw this for the first time tonight. When I saw it I really couldn’t connect her tragic story with her political message, even though at the start of the ad she said she wasn’t political. a very poorly produced ad, confusing message & very ineffective. Still not as bad as the ad I’m seeing with the money manager.

I’d rate this ad an F. Pritzker wants to keep abortions safe and legal. Bailey wants to ban all abortions. I totally don’t understand an ad picking on parental notification on abortions - seems like a minor detail compared to banning abortions.
