JESSE WHITE: I’ve committed myself to Alexi to be at his side every day, to make sure that you become the next Secretary of State for the state of Illinois.

ALEXI GIANNOULIAS: What holds us together as our unified belief in the rule of law, in democracy, in character integrity, and in fair and honest elections. We have seen what the political cult on the right has done to our neighbors where lawmakers are passing laws as we speak to make it tougher to vote harder, to make a living and more difficult to seek abortion care. And now more than ever we need a Secretary of State on the front lines to protect our democracy. The stakes in this election could not be higher. Our right to vote, the rights of working families and the reproductive rights of women are all on the ballot this November. My job as the first new Secretary of State in a generation will be to build on his legacy of public service.

JESSE WHITE: Alexi, you da man.

  1. Grade - A.
    Really well done.

  2. Gee, a candidate for Secretary of State who is endorsed by the most popular politician in the state cutting an ad with and wrapping himself around said same candidate, Jesse White.

What a concept, right Anna Valencia?

  3. Alexis Giannoulias is running a campaign about character and integrity and belief in the rule of law?

That’s an… interesting play. Can’t say I saw that coming.

    Comment by JB13 Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 11:45 am

  4. Sheer genius. Tell Uline to hold up that check for Brady

Comment by Annonin' Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 11:46 am

  5. B+
It’s a solid piece, but it doesn’t speak to the actual duties of the office.

Comment by Pot calling kettle Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 11:52 am

  6. A+ very excited about our guy

Comment by Ellis Island Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 11:53 am

  7. It’s a slick ad. But he’s still running for Senator I see. lol. I am waiting to hear his grand plan for the Illinois SOS office.

Comment by Responsa Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 11:55 am

  8. Rate it a C - The audio quality when Alexi is speaking was really poor. So now the Broadway Bank scandal is considered the rule of law - good to know.

Comment by Donnie Elgin Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 11:55 am

  9. A- for a preemptive ad.

Comment by walker Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 11:58 am

  10. B. the technical aspects of the ad are poor. gotta get more to the meat of the job, though.

Comment by Amalia Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 11:58 am

  11. I’d give it a B+. Jesse White is the most popular state politician in modern memory. So I can see the value in making the claim that the baton is being passed. Although that didn’t work so well for Anna Valencia.

I would like to hear more about what Alexi plans to actually do with the office. But given the state of the ILGOP that’s not necessarily the campaign that he has to or will run.

Comment by Pundent Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 12:11 pm

  12. He looks unenthusiastic. Almost bored at times. Why Valencia didn’t do the basics like this we will never know.

Comment by Opening Date Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 12:20 pm

  13. B+ video and imagery is excellent, audio sounds a little muffled. Also, I guess his polling isn’t showing any crossover appeal with the message in this…

    Comment by Boone's is Back Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 12:24 pm

  14. A+ Very well done. Hits on all of the important issues.

    Comment by (618) Democrat Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 12:39 pm

  15. It’s an A-

    “Because Jesse White”

Boy, Valencia and her Crew, they really ran a terrible race, Jesse White is a treasure.

    “Why?”

Jesse White saves this Senate ad masquerading as an ad for SoS.

It’s well done, it’s short, pointed, smart.

    A-

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 12:54 pm

  16. A

Alexi has been endorsed by Illinois’ most popular elected official.

So the ad opens with Jesse and closes with Jesse.

Its a digital ad, so in between Alexi speaks broadly to a wide audience.

Comment by Scott Cross for President Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 1:12 pm

  17. It’s an A. People love Jesse and Alexi comes off as competent and capable. Dan Brady appears addled in that Trump video and now his committee admits they can’t balance their campaign expenditures for Q2. Expect Team Alexi to capitalize on this contrast.

    Comment by R4D1 Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 1:15 pm

  18. Horrible ad. D.

Should’ve been filmed in a doctor’s office waiting room with no one else in the ad.

Not Jesse White, not the Governor, not Durbin.

Just the candidate in a doctor’s office.

And then run only that ad.

Comment by Anna Valencia's Digital Team Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 1:15 pm

  19. Well played, Anna Valencia’s Digital Team. Well played. And exactly right. Don’t know who was advising her team on that strategy…

Comment by New Day Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 1:25 pm

  20. An OK ad, nothing to write home about.
I would like to know his opinion on a couple of things. 1. Giant 80000-pound truck-cranes tearing up the roads and not required to buy license plates. Would Alexis be in favor of requiring them to buy weight-based truck license plates, the same as every other truck in Illinois? 2. Would he be in favor of getting rid of the requirement of license plates for the smallest of trailers, typically used for small boats?

Comment by DuPage Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 1:27 pm

  21. It’s a solid B+, I hate to admit. Nationalizing any campaign is a good move for any democrat in Illinois these days. And having the ad headlined by Jesse White… man.

Comment by Ducky LaMoore Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 1:32 pm

  22. A Brady’s other party’s rhetoric

Comment by Rabid Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 1:57 pm

  23. B. Other than the fact that the office he’s seeking doesn’t have anything to do with abortion and helping families make a living, and not much to do with elections it’s fine.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 2:59 pm

  24. ==I would like to know his opinion on a couple of things==

I have two more that have gotten commonly asked in recent years: 3. What do you prefer, 2 years or 1 for stickers and registration?, 4. Should the front license plate stay or go on cars?

Comment by UnionStateEmployeeThatIsNotAFSCME Tuesday, Aug 30, 22 @ 3:10 pm

  25. =Other than the fact that the office he’s seeking doesn’t have anything to do with abortion and helping families make a living, and not much to do with elections it’s fine.=

We’ve known since the Dobbs decision that this would be the playbook that the Democratic party would use. Now the natural response is to focus attention back on the fundamentals of the job and how you’re going to improve the operation and efficiency of government. But instead we get complaints about the liberal media, kids being indoctrinated, FBI criticisms, and election deniers. Now I’m not suggesting at all that’s the campaign that Brady is running. But the GOP is perfectly content in abandoning “kitchen table issues” in favor of nonsense that only their base buys into. Makes for tough sledding for Brady.
