The state charging band students participating in the state fair parade admission to the fairgrounds as a condition for participating in the parade is shameful.

So there’s a story on BlockClub, about an alderman and Sheriff Dart hosting an event where people can get their catalytic converted painted a bright color.
This allegedly deters theft?
I’m not a catalytic converter thief, but I would think that this just makes it easier for the thief to find the catalytic converter?
Am I missing something?

Couple things;
Wrigley was 2/3 full last night, a Monday night for Cubs-Cards, a night, arguably, incredible for baseball
Saw the Cards throw a 1-hitter against the Cubs
Heard a ball park 2/3 full actually roar as I watched Pujols hit a dinger for the game’s only run.
Experienced Bernie’s and the Nisei as one should before and after a ball game, in the proper order.
I still recommend the Nisei, it’s a must for me
Nothing like live baseball, Cubs-Cards is always that next level, a HOFer hitting a dinger as the only run, even against my ball club, those are memories you want.
It was nice to be back.

The are also probably adding the VIN or other number. Makes it harder to sell for scrap because it’s obviously stolen and then easier to trace.

Reminds me of the time I took my car in for making a weird noise, and the mechanic discovered someone had partially and mistakenly cut…the resonator.

And, from the tv angles at least, many of those fans appeared to be wearing Cardinals red. So much promise and potential for a long dynasty-type run for the Cubbies in 2015-2016. So much disappointment since.

I’m pretty sure that catalytic converter thieves know exactly where the catalytic converters are located on most cars. That’s their specialty after all, their craft if you will. I’m sure they take pride in their work.
The paint is to deter the buyers of stolen catalytic converters, not the thieves.

Having a dead Ash tree taken down today. Will be a relief to have it away from the house and decks. One of the tree guys just told me the ash bores are now making the leap to Oak trees. That doesn’t sound good.

Did any of ya’ll read this morning’s IL politico playbook? The last sentence of her segment on Republican election deniers almost made me fall out of my chair. This seems incredibly irresponsible to me to spend 7 paragraphs outlining how top R’s are undermining the very fabric of democracy, then write this sentence.
“It’s a doomsday sort of scenario, but one Democrats might not mind. In Illinois, it could be easier to run against Trump than inflation.”

Aka the Central Illinois (Springfield) and Southern Illinois (DuQuoin) state fairs.
With an unofficial 3rd “state fair” IMO being the Sandwich Fair (aka Northern Illinois State Fair).

The IL Policy Institute released a new survey purporting to show that Arlington residents don’t favor taxpayer funding for a new Bears stadium and the question wording is amazing:
“In fact, the Arlington Heights mayor has said he’d be open to giving taxpayer dollars to the Chicago Bears to help build their stadium, with supporters saying it would bring economic growth to the area. However, opponents of the village’s plan to give the Bears taxpayer dollars say the team can afford to build their own stadium and
it would take away millions of dollars from local education, special services, and infrastructure funding. The National Football League, or NFL, is the most profitable sports league in the world and opponents point to the $110 billion media deal the NFL just signed providing the Bears with billions in new revenue. Opponents also point to the Chicago Cubs who privately raised nearly $750 million to renovate Wrigley Field without taxpayer
subsidies. Knowing this, do you approve or disapprove of the village of Arlington Heights giving taxpayer dollars to the Chicago Bears to help build their stadium?”
