  2. I wonder whether Bailey and Catanzara are on their way to Miami to protect their Dear Leader.

  3. =I wonder whether Bailey and Catanzara are on their way to Miami to protect their Dear Leader.=

All crimes matter and all criminals must be held accountable. I’m sure both of them will be unequivocal in that regard.

  4. Does Mr. Bailey want to defund the FBI (Police) now? All the CapFax commenters are waiting at the edge of their seats this morning.

  5. I’m just going to wait and see what the ILFOP thinks about all this before jumping to any conclusions. /s

  6. Nichelle Nichols died last month. If you don’t know who she is, she starred in the original “Star Trek” series. What I didn’t know was that she was born in Robbins, IL and graduated from Englewood High School in Chicago….pretty cool! :)

  7. It’s an “up” day. On schedule per tradition, road repair goes into overdrive just ahead of state fair week… JK

  8. And Roquan Smith has requested a trade. Sigh, gonna be a rough year on the Lakefront.

  9. After yesterday’s post here about Bailey refusing to take questions at his FOP endorsement “press conference,” I made a point to pay extra attention to Chicago television news coverage of the story yesterday and this morning. The coverage was pretty extensive and very positive for Bailey.

Which should create a dilemma for local journalists: if a candidate refuses to take questions at a “press conference,” do you give him full bore coverage? Most of the reports I saw included quotes from Pritzker, so there was a cursory attempt to provide balance.

But no questions or answers about Bailey’s views on police pensions or his votes against funding increases for law enforcement.

I’m not saying the news media shouldn’t cover a question-free press conference, but if I was an editor I wouldn’t dedicate more than a couple paragraphs (or on TV, more than a 10-second read over) to it.

  10. The Bears may not want to pay Roquan Smith the market rate for what is likely to be a bad team for the next few years.

  11. “If you’re visiting the Illinois State Fair this weekend, stop by the Copi truck in Conservation World. We’re offering free tastings of Copi cuisine. Aug. 12, 13, and 14 only. ” Got this notice on FB. Copi tastes very clean, very tasty, and works well with whatever it is made with. have not yet had Copi bolognese but hear it is very good. had tacos and burgers with Copi.

  12. Jim Glasgow is opening his mouth to remove all doubt again. In a story that keeps showing up on CenterSquare, he is quoted referring to the SAFE-T act;

“You as the electorate need to demand that anybody running for election in November is going to vote to repeal this bill,” Glasgow said.

Then goes on to complain that he will have to release 60 murders because of this law(untrue), because it now requires him to provide evidence to hold them in custody.

Jim Glasgow is complaining he actually has to have evidence to charge and hold someone for murder, and be able to prove it.

“Glasgow said it’s nearly impossible to provide evidence needed within that time period since it takes time to review the evidence.”

Someone might want to ask the obvious follow-up question here - do you not currently review and use evidence when you charge someone for murder in Will County.

Of course NONE of this is making any of the local newspapers, as they are busy filling content by publishing the weekly mass schedules at diocese churches - it’s not the lack of reporters that’s the problem here.

  13. ===stop by the Copi truck in Conservation World. ===

I probably won’t be at the state fair this year. But I really want to try Copi soon. I will pretty much eat any fish and I love fish tacos.

  14. There’s an effort in the Town of Normal to change things from an at-large council to one with set districts.

On one hand this seems like a good idea to guarantee representation from all parts of town, but the people who are behind it are largely cranks who are mad all their pro-Trump right-wing candidates lost in the last municipal election.

Curious how this ballot initiative turns out.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I’m neutral on Glasgow, and there are many things in the SAFE-T Act I disagree with, but he’s making absurd statements about the bail issue. He should try making real arguments if he wants something about it changed.

If a person should be held in jail pending trial, they can be held. You just have to provide evidence. Which is basically the State’s Attorney’s job…I thought?
