Fire Tony too. With a twist. Let the Sox fire him as manager rest of this year, then the Cardinals pick him back up in an honorary coaching role the rest of the season. Then he can “retire” again as a Cardinal along with Pujols and Molina the end of this season.

I posted a late reply to the state park foodware law early this morning (and then the sidebar about how poorly run the historic sites have gotten under DNR), but bringing this idea back for discussion as I think it’s something the state should consider:
“Is it time for all of Illinois’ presidential-related sites, anything related to Lincoln, Grant, Reagan and Obama (plus Hillary Clinton’s childhood home in Park Ridge) to come entirely under the control of the National Park Service? In addition to the Lincoln Home as NPS has run for over 50 years. This includes everything from the non-State Historical Library portion of the ALPLM, to New Salem, the Galena Grant sites, all the way down to something as small as Lincoln’s Log Cabin and the childhood home in Monmouth that Reagan lived in for about a year around 1918. Everything presidential-related in Illinois under the Feds and NPS and not run by DNR, the ALPLM as an independent agency, or in private hands.”

Rich, kinda-sorta, in the “Ferris Bueller Section”
I’ve said it very often, can’t stand bad politics played or bad baseball played, and the thing is about the Cubs ball club is that they aren’t losing, losing is a part of the game, it’s that this club is bad. They play bad baseball, top to bottom, and from ownership to bench coach, the leadership is lacking too.
The Cubs want to tell me they are a small market club with billion dollar assets and millions in actual profits. The magic of baseball is that for 162 games anything can happen, winning included.
The 8-0 shellacking? Yeah, that was embarrassing. The club wasn’t competitive, they lacked aggressiveness, they also lack baseball “smarts”
You can have glittering gold wrapping paper and jeweled decorations, but if inside the packaging… it’s “garbage”…
It’s a shame. It’ll be a while before the club competes, but the bottom line will show another “winning season”

Around 2009-2011 there was a great deal of angst, it’s tough to switch allegiances in the long run, for me.
However, I’m far more likely to be enjoying “west coast baseball” these past couple years so, scratching the itch for good baseball, or trying to catch other games when available is my option.

The Cubs being 16 games back in July is nothing the fans or club cannot bear.
It’s their 17-30 record at Wrigley that sucks the life out of a ball club and its fans.
Teams are supposed to look forward to returning home from a road trip, and fans want to go to the stadium believing they are gonna see a W today.

The Cubs are hard to watch this year, but at least being at the game you don’t have to listen to the inane conversation of Boog Sciambi. I’ve turned off more games due to him than poor baseball.

I just watched the game. I did slip up though when the Cubs loaded the bases in the 9th and *may* have cheered once. But that wasn’t for a win, but to get some freaking runs on the board for crying out loud with so many Mets fans in the stands.

Baez, Bryant and Kimbrell have all proven they weren’t worth re signing last year
As bad as they are this year the fans are still turning out- they are #7 in attendance this year and only Washington has won less games.

They were fairly competitive recently, winning series against the WS champs Atlanta and the Red Sox as well as the Brewers and the Cards…then they went out west to play the Dodgers and the wheels started to come off, even though they were competitive in all 4 games. A 7-game losing streak will always make a team look worse than they are…though they are currently nothing to write home about.

I rarely (Rich is always a gracious exception to this) get invited anywhere, especially when it comes to golf or baseball, or anything really. Living in my mom’s basement has limited me, for sure.

The Marquee coverage, as a package, is truly boring and uninspired, flat even, very reflective of the product on the field.
Plus, when these games are so bad, there’s only so much “filler talk” anyone can do.

Never cared for the game, growing up, but two things convinced me to look at it with fresh eyes; “Money Ball” and “Brockmire”. “Brockmire” is incredibly filthy at times and yet very obviously a love letter to the game and the people devoted to it, by people that are obviously fans.

Terry Bradshaw was in Springfield last weekend with his family for a horse show at the Fairgrounds. While in town he had to get some things at the Dirksen Parkway Walmart–his video about his store experience has gone viral. Madonia talked about it earlier this week on AM Springfield but the SJR has finally gotten around to writing a story on this:

Listening to WXRT now for the 10-2:30 slot, Lin Brehmer’s last go for a while as he takes time off for cancer treatment. He’s spinning some great tunes. Hoping to hear his voice again but at times he sounds pretty weak.

I only have Limited Basic cable so I don’t get Marquee. Anyone see the game? Like on Bueller in the movie, was there a camera shot of Rich (or could you recognize him in the crowd)?

Amalia, same here. Lin Brehmer is my hero, my best friend in the whole world. Wishing him nothing but positive vibes and healing prayers. I can’t imagine not hearing him on my radio and I hope his recovery is complete and quick. We need Lin now more than ever.

That NFL business model, where every expense is covered the first day of their fiscal year (TV rights monies allocated), there’s no incentive to be competitive when every ticket, parking, licensed product dollar is all profit. A cash cow.
The Bears are a prime example of financial windfalls discourage a want for a competitive product.
You get it. Beats fans “get it” too…
The mom and pop McCaskeys get it too…

Nails on a chalkboard. The TV broadcast is unwatchable with the sound on. Was with a broadcaster friend at the game recently and he agreed that the radio guys are fantastic and the TV crew, especially Boog, have to go. So awful.
