* So, according to this odd little graph, Republican US Senate candidate Kathy Salvi was leading then continued her same basic proportional lead when lots more votes were counted. So, yeah, it is normal. Salvi is currently winning by about 37,000 votes…

Unsurprisingly, she’s fundraising off of this. She may raise some dough. After all, 175,239 Republicans voted for her as of the latest update. Another 64,755 voted for Piton.

Matt Dubiel currently has 64,755 Republican primary votes. Total all those up and the four have so far received 365,351 total Republican votes, which is 152,840 more votes than Salvi got.
That party sure appears to be seriously off track, man.

It’s time to make a Mock Congress like the schools with Mock UN Clubs. That way, these cry baby losers who get 3rd or 4th place in their primary election can have something to do to keep them busy and get to feel like they’re important. Much better than their unhinged ramblings on the web.

When I was in fourth grade, I mixed up the state capitals of Vermont and New Hampshire on the state capitals test. I got 48/50 on the test and felt wrong too.

I’m starting to think there’s some kind of continuum from certain forms of bad campaigns to this conspiracy theory garbage. The through-line is folks’ inability to grasp how many voters there are.
For bad campaigns, that looks like only surrounding yourself with friends. You post on facebook, you have “events,” and generally just say the same things to the same people. Then on election day, you find that only your friends voted for you, and everyone else voted for the candidate that tried talking to every voter.
As a candidate’s grip on reality gets more tenuous, they start to fill in that gap with deranged theories. One thing I’ve wondered often about Trump is how many voters he thinks actually voted. Does he have a ballpark guess? How close is that guess to 160,000,000? Piton seems to have the same problem. It’s not just that he thinks the results were altered to defeat him, he seems to think no one really voted at all.
Scale is a difficult thing for people to wrap their minds around, especially narcissists who go through life not contemplating the lives of others. It’s impossible to explain to him that this really didn’t have much to do with Bobby Piton. He wouldn’t believe that 600,000+ people saw his name on a ballot, didn’t recognize it, and voted for someone else. That’s too boring and meaningless for him.

Have fun finding out where the ‘data takes you’, as a data professional I would point out that data can take you anywhere if you try hard enough or want it bad enough.
This should be fun to watch and a sad reminder of how we can feel that reality is against you.
The Kathy Salvi Election Plot would make a great podcast.

The GOP and their various allies (dark money PACs, think tanks, preachers, take your pick) have been feeding their base outlandish lies for so long, that they are constantly mired in it.
How can a party be a functional participant in governance when they’ve trained all of their members and supporters to just reject reality and refuse to believe anything that doesn’t personally benefit them?

All the more reason to reform voting such that third parties have a fair chance - something like approval voting or ranked choice. That will give the center-right folks the ability to form a new, saner party that won’t provide a home to such wacked out thinking.

I guess this is the new norm to some. If you don’t like the outcome, even if it’s a primary, claim that the election was stolen. It’s one of the reasons why we need things like the Select Committee. To show that this kind of nonsense won’t be rewarded and if taken to an extreme can, and hopefully would be, met with legal consequences.

Maybe Sullivan and Irvin should form a coalition to question how Bailey got 57 percent of the vote. After all Irvin was ahead in a couple of polls back just a few weeks ago and everyone could see that Sullivan was surging. Democrats clearly had something to do with it. Probably those smart thermostats imported from China and controlled by Italian satellites were used to change vote counts. There should be an investigation.

I’m convinced that teaching the geography of Illinois should be required in public schools.
I mentioned to a Hubbard supporter that my neighborhood of less than 2 square miles has the same population as the 11 smallest counties in the state which have an area of about 3000 square miles. She could not wrap her head around the concept of population density in the Chicago area.

It’s not off track. It’s an embarrassment now. I would technically classify myself as independent now. At least in Colorado, their Repubs got it right and supported candidates who don’t subscribe to the conspiracy theories of rigged elections and that all should hail Cheeto. Seeing Bailey and Miller win their races just put a few more nails into a coffin that’s probably well past sealed. What’s sadder to see is how many disillusioned people still SUPPORT these people and these insane beliefs.
