Pritzker funds another state central committee candidate

Posted in:

* Politico

— JUICE: Gov. JB Pritzker just gave $55,000 to Patrick Hynes in his bid for Lyons Township assessor. Hynes is a nephew of the late Cook County Assessor Tom Hynes and cousin to Dan Hynes, who was charged by Pritzker with finding candidates to run for the Democratic State Central Committee.

Call me crazy, but I kinda doubt the governor wants to boost Patrick Hynes’ township assessor campaign with a $55,000 check.

Patrick Hynes is also running in a three-way race for the Democratic State Central Committee against incumbent Patrick Watson and Chris Donahue.

* Another beneficiary of Pritzker cash is Rep. Natalie Manley, who is running for central committee against DPI incumbent Christine Benson. Benson was a Robin Kelly supporter during the fight over party chair and is expected to vote for her again.

But take a look at who Benson featured twice in her mailer…

* Hynes and Manley are two of five candidates whom Pritzker is supporting for central committee: Melinda Bush (vs. incumbent Lauren Beth Gash); Liz Brown-Reeves (vs. Bill Houlihan’s candidate Katherine Daniels) and Rep. Margaret Croke (vs. incumbent Nancy Shepherdson and Mariyana Spyropoulos). He’s supporting Sen. Omar Aquino as well, but Aquino got the usual $5,000 legislative incumbent with a primary check. That’s not about the central committee race.

  1. Can’t love this enough.

Win your election. No one is guaranteed any seat on the SCC.

If you’re “flabbergasted” that the governor has decided to “take sides”, folks chose sides against the governor, than wholly expect the governor to fully fund, embrace, support a makeup of a SCC that is irregular, so much so a ruling that Chairman Kelly is a figurehead… and it’s cheered as a win… even though it was sold as “preposterous”

    Hope Pritzker wins all five.

    Voters will decide fates.

  2. Good for her. I’m sure she worked to support Obama and JB. This attacking long-committed democrat activists in every corner of the state over “DPI” is petty and ridiculous.

  4. Typical. So typical. I bet Durbin’s people put this mailer together.

  7. There used to be joke in Magic circles that if you offered $100 to someone on the street if they could name a living magician besides David Copperfield it would take you a while before you gave up your $100.

I would say if you offered people on the street $100 to name their Democratic State Committeeman your money would be really safe.

I get why someone would want ‘their folks’ in these roles, but how in the heck do you get primary voters to care?

  8. OW - I get your point about winners and losers, but what you don’t understand is that this power play is taking aim at some of the hardest-working, loyal Democrats who have been working at party building for a long time. They’re into party building - not the JB vs Robin Kelly battle. Your lens is ultra finite. Broaden it and you’ll see the pettiness of some of this.

Right. Nobody had even heard of most of them when MJM was chairing the party.

  11. ===taking aim at some of the hardest-working, loyal Democrats who have been working at party building for a long time.===

    1) If they’ve been involved for “a long time”, they should win handily, easily, no sweat

    2) They made choices. Choices have consequences. Not one seat is guaranteed. They win, it won’t matter.

    3) I wholly understand that the privileged elite, that few no one ever heard of, want free passes for making tough decisions…

… welcome to politics. Choices ain’t free.

===They’re into party building - not the JB vs Robin Kelly battle.===

They chose a side, that’s how this all works. I hope Pritzker beats them all, the voters will decide.

===Your lens is ultra finite. Broaden it and you’ll see the pettiness of some of this.===

You don’t want me to broaden my lens.

Just going a bit “out”, I see a bunch of lazy unknowns, with this elitist thought to a seat they feel they own… and are angered voters might take away that.

I could go broader, but then I might get a bit more pointed, lol

  13. ==== Call me crazy, but I kinda doubt the governor wants to boost Patrick Hynes’ township assessor campaign with a $55,000 check.====

I sometimes wonder why I even click on the Politico email some mornings. Connecting the dots isn’t their strong suit. I think I stopped reading after that tidbit.

Comment by Been There Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 11:32 am

  14. Had the election for township assessor in 2021, so unless JB is really planning for Hynes’ future, think the money will probably be used for the committeeman race.

Comment by West Side the Best Side Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 11:37 am

  15. Gov’s record on these things is pretty spotty (Fair Tax, Lightford v. Harmon, Harris v. Kelly). This should help boost his record…I mean, he should win all of these if he’s dumping that kind of money into races almost NOBODY cares about. Honestly though, if he doesn’t win these little intra-party skirmishes then that’s a big problem for he and his operation. IMHO

Comment by McGuppin Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 11:37 am

  16. The good news is that the Governor is about as good at picking winners as the cubs are at winning the world series. JB is backing some less than steller candidates, so we’ll see how much his money can influence such downballot races.

Comment by Commisar Gritty Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 11:47 am

  17. Yes, McGuppin, bc if JB Pritzker doesn’t win every state central race on a primary night where he’s likely to see his preferred GOP general election candidate win bc of his deft intervention, a week after he’s been invited to speak to New Hampshire Dems, with his endorsement essentially being intimated by people he didn’t endorse bc they know how valuable it is - then whatever shall he do?

Oswego has this right. No one is guaranteed anything. The Bill Houlihan/Dick Durbin crew are pissed bc JB doesn’t automatically defer to everything they want. And honestly - there wouldn’t be this much whining if the DPI crew wasn’t so worried.

  18. “ Win your election. No one is guaranteed any seat on the SCC.”

What is missing in ever multiple baseless seemingly personal tirades, cloaked safely in anonymity of course, at persons some really know nothing about, is that a few of those some have the gall to deem “fat cats”, who are attempted to be “tossed and punished”; now think about that act, “punished and tossed” for voting to create a non dysfunctional, no long fiefdom controlled, state party that doesn’t bring national shame at the mere mention of it, actually worked, hard and against seemingly insurmountable odds to actually win their seating.

A few, foolishly being “punished and tossed”, are the behind the scenes worker bees of national and IL Dem state politics, a state party which is at the infant stage of attempting to reform after decades of corruption. It’s been how many years of dysfunction that now need to be remedied?

Robin Kelly is not a magician, even though she no doubt may possess some of that Black Girl Magic.

But in the olden times, some are still pining for, ILL Dem SCC persons were anointed, endowed, appointed and had nary a clue, nor the personality, nor skill set, nor the backbone, nor any real interest in ensuring that the Illinois Democratic Party was inclusive, voter educating, voter empowering, actually functional, independent in seeking varied sources of funding, and ever growing in strength and numbers.

JB Pritzker can continue to go right on buying human beings, it appears he knows nothing but to do that. But the concern should not be about those like Pritzker nor Griffin, both of whom who buy people, the concern is about the people who allow themselves to be purchased.

The masses are kept ignorant, intentionally.

“ Hope Pritzker wins all five.

    Voters will decide fates.”

Will “the voters” actually be the deciders?

Why are they afraid of voters if their intent and reason is pure and if they are such movers and shakers, they should win handily, easily… and yet..,

These folks are the coddled elite of their party feeling their seat is owed to them, with no ramifications and no questioning them.

    That’s utterly absurd.

How many for years upon years let Madigan do as he saw fit… to score National Convention seats as delegates, pictures with leaders, I mean… it’s an elitist, anonymous, group of sorts that are concerned their free ride is over, but you’re pretending they think they are the reform? You saying that without snark?
