  2. Now how about that storm that came through the Chicago area on Monday!?!?

    Comment by Levois J Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 8:49 am

  3. Yeah this weather is awful. Wild stuff last night with the tornado warnings in dupage.

  4. So is anyone else quasi prepping for a food shortage?
I have to admit that I’m buying a bag of beans every time I go to the store and researching articles about preparedness.

Comment by Honeybear Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 8:53 am

  5. Yeah, but at least it’s a dry heat.
    Oh, wait…..

Comment by Bruce( no not him) Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 8:55 am

  6. My heart breaks for Rep Casten this morning with the announcement of the death of his 17 year old daughter. Praying for him.

  7. This weather proves the genius of the Fahrenheit temperature system- 0 is too darn cold and 100 is too darn hot. The Celsius system just isn’t tied to the human experience.

  8. Happy to see that Erick Williams of Hyde Park’s Virtue Restaurant won the James Beard Best Chef: Great Lakes award.

Got a mailer yesterday endorsing a candidate for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District - from Personal PAC. I’m still trying to figure out what the connection is between the MWRD and reproductive rights.

  9. ===from Personal PAC===

    Who was it?

  10. what were those sounds last night? thought it was thunder but may have been lightning strikes. huge booming sounds. war like.

  11. Tribbies go thumbs down on Darin LaHood…long over due. Maybe there be more on thecConfessed Congressman who sent his mope son to live off us

Comment by Annonin' Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 9:01 am

  12. That’s the lightning strikes making the thunder. :)

We had a lightning strike so close, with such a loud crack of thunder, that my ears rang for the next hour.

  13. =Happy to see that Erick Williams of Hyde Park’s Virtue Restaurant won the James Beard Best Chef: Great Lakes award.=

And was the only Beard award winner from Chicago this year. Went there for the first time a few weeks ago and even though it’s a haul for us from the north side, it won’t be the last. Highly recommended

Comment by Joe Bidenopolous Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 9:08 am

  14. Saw a new bailey ad on tv. If he wins, I will move to high in the mountains with no electricity so I do not have to hear his voice. He is such an embarrassment and a liar. He started in on schools this time. Pants on fire.

Comment by JS Mill Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 9:09 am

  15. Yes. I wish I had commented this on one of the Richard Irvin threads.

The people who brought you Bruce Rauner and Richard Irvin are now responsible for setting a record for a State not having a budget, decimating our social safety net, having zero legislative accomplishments, AND maybe the worst campaign in Illinois history. Kudos!

  16. == I’m still trying to figure out what the connection is between the MWRD and reproductive rights.==

Both have to do with what happens when the water breaks.

Comment by Arsenal Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 9:15 am

  17. With Girardi and Maddon on the market there’s no reason left to keep La Russa. Tony has had a great career but he’s turned into the Phil Jackson of baseball. The game has just passed him by.

Comment by vern Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 9:16 am

  18. Great to see that the courts and IDFPR have freed up the 185 cannabis dispensary licenses and are getting ready to issue them. There are still legal issues to be resolved, like out of state residency, but those are positive steps.

Comment by Grandson of Man Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 9:21 am

  19. Pat Quinn is trotting out his Chicago mayor term limit proposal. No comment about lifetime term limits for all political offices served, let alone the number of times one can run for office?

I see what you did there.

    Thanks for the chuckle.

  21. Tony LaRussa needs to go.

    Comment by 10th ward Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 9:44 am

  22. I read a post elsewhere suggesting the Paul Volcker Alliance issued a white paper arguing Illinois’ use of Covid funds may lead to a fiscal crisis in 2026, when those funds end. I did not read the white paper however.

    Arsenal wins the interwebs today.

  27. ==So is anyone else quasi prepping for a food shortage?==

Yes, since January 21, 2017. Half-joking — I’ve been a fan of stocking up and growing some of my own food for a long time, and X2 from the start of the pandemic.

Comment by yinn Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 11:36 am

  28. @ suburban mom, thanks. I’ve been right next to a lightning strike and the sound is terrible. @ Honeybear, wait, what? food shortage? do share more. @ Arsenal, unlike your moniker, today you are the winner.

Comment by Amalia Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 12:00 pm

  29. 85 degrees F at 8am. Gonna be a long hot day.
Do all the usual precautions as you can.

  30. Caterpillar announced they are moving headquarters to Dallas/Ft Worth.

Comment by Lurker Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 12:26 pm

  31. ==With Girardi and Maddon on the market==

Girardi is meh. Couldn’t get anything going with a strong Philly roster. There has to be somebody better. Maddon is the most overrated manager in the history of MLB. The game has also passed him by. Hard pass on him.

Comment by MLB Tuesday, Jun 14, 22 @ 12:54 pm

  32. ===Happy to see that Erick Williams of Hyde Park’s Virtue Restaurant won the James Beard Best Chef: Great Lakes award.===

That’s great news. I haven’t been, but it is definitely on my list of places to try. The Hyde Park food scene certainly has come a long way since I lived there in the late 80s. Although I do miss Ribs’n Bibs…
